Naturally it was committed with a weapon from the last millennium. Sadly knowing our governor I'm sure she will now define a powder horn as a large capacity magazine and ban them as she has the AR-15, Mini-14 and other dangerous inanimate objects.

Right through a 6x6 post, hot damn. Never forget that people murdered each other by the thousands with guns just like that and a large caliber soft lead musket ball will absolutely 100% wreck your shit if you get shot with it. Obsolete isn't harmless.

I have so many questions, leading off with why was he drilling with a loaded rifle. And don't reenactors have rules about only loading with powder? Isn't there some rule about never putting an actual projectile in the gun?

I don't know, but that was my first question as well. My first thought when I saw the headline was that a revolutionary war musket sat charged for 200 years and went off ala Gary Paulsen but no, this is so much dumber.

Great reference. I was hoping for the Gary Paulsen situation, too. Some Revolutionary War militiaman's musket been sitting for 200 years gets a lucky spark in the pan and cranks off a 200 year old musket ball over the heads of museumgoers. The simple explanation is the gun was fired recreationally at some point and left loaded. There are no blank-only repro muskets, they're all quite capable of firing balls.
