Xena’s screen-used broken metal chakram from “The Xena Scrolls”

“SHAZAM!” This is Xena’s screen-matched broken chakram from season 2, episode 10: “The Xena Scrolls.” In 1940 Macedonia, Melinda Pappas discovers one half of Xena’s most powerful weapon with Gabrielle’s legendary scrolls, tucked away behind a concealed niche within the walls of the tomb of Ares, God of War.
This is the metal “hero” prop used for shots of Mel being led through the tomb and for close-ups of the chakram before the halves are fused back together. It has plenty of production wear and tear, but I think that adds to its personality. Production needs rarely called for metal weapons, only using them for close-ups and establishing shots. As such, metal props are the rarest production material, and metal chakrams are even rarer.

The one in the wall is different, it has 2 little holes punched through it. Guess that's a recast of the metal version from something softer like resin?

Yes, but it looks like metal to me. It’s still a close-up shot, so metal would have been preferred—probably a one-off half made by the effects team for this specific scene. The holes were likely milled out and fitted to corresponding pegs or some sort of mount within the scroll niche set piece to allow the chakram half to sit securely inside without sliding around or falling out.

That is awesome

Is it different from the Chakram that….spoiler…..broke Xena’s spine?

Yes. Different break lines and an entirely redesigned production mold. I actually have photos of the other chakram prop from Ides-Chakram arc on my Instagram profile here: https://www.instagram.com/p/C0CQsJ0r4bt/?igsh=emI5c2U4MjRjcWd0

I loved this episode!! The cast playing these archeologist characters cracked me up 😆

It looks thicker and bigger than it did to me on TV, especially in the shot of Mel by herself holding it vertically.
