Are hotels usually empty around Christmas and NYE?

Hello! I’m asking this question because we plan to be in Vancouver Dec 26-30th and I’m wondering when is the best time to book our hotel.
All pro tip suggestions welcome

What!? No. Busiest time of year.

I was thinking the same thing that people might be using the hotel on each end of travel. Also that people would possibly be staying with family/friends.
I’m going to contact Marriott and see what they can do. Thank you!

Any luck?

Yeah I ended up getting a great deal. Staying 2 nights at the Pan Pacific and 2 nights at the Fairmont Waterfront. StayVancouverHotels.com had a deal offering a $200 PrePaid Credit Card upon check in at certain hotels if you stayed 2 consecutive nights. So we end up with $400 and can use them immediately to pay for the room nights😊
I just got lucky, I was looking and looking and all of a sudden the offer popped up. I called to make sure it was real and proceeded to book.
Can’t wait going to be fun!

That's the busiest travel season and when hotels are most likely to be sold out.

So, I used to work front desk for a Sheraton for 5 years. This was 6 years ago, so idk how outdated this info might be (disclaimer)
It really depends on where your hotel is located and if it is "touristy"
For workers, the actual day of the holiday is dead.
As hotel guests, typically, it's busy a few days before and a few days after.
It also depends if the city have annual events that may have groups booking room blocks.
Generally, I recall my hotel pretty dead Xmas and NYE except during events like the Outback Bowl where we will maybe have a group block on 2 of our 8 floors.
We were more a business hotel in the business district so we were only 60 to 80 percent full and I pretty much finish my checklist early and just read damn you autocorrect all shift lol

Thank you for this information

Our hotel is dead on Thanksgiving, Christmas and NYE. But travel days surrounding them are a little busier. But we cater mainly to business and sports team travel, not tourism.

I would book right now prices have been unusually high for Vancouver this year. I think it’s finally bouncing back from the pandemic plus Taylor Swift will be there for a weekend and a lot of people have shifted their plans to come when she is not there. Hope you can make it to the market.

What all the other responders have said is accurate. Especially NYE, hotels tend to bump their rates because folks book rooms so they don’t have to drive home.

Don't know for Vancouver, but in many places the holiday season is high season.
Who knows, prices fluctuate, preferences vary. No guarantees, but if you're flexible you can usually get away with booking last minute, certainly in a major city. If you're picky and have all kinds of demands that reduces your options and you may be better off to book early to increase the chances your demands can be met.

That is peak travel season for most people. Students are on vacation and families are traveling for the holidays. I would book as soon as possible because prices will keep increasing the closer it gets to that date

No, hotels are usually busier because a lot of people are travelling, that time of year.
I’d book as early as you can, you won’t save money booking later.
