Private dental insurance options, which ones to choose?

Hi all! After some advice as has no experience in this. Partner is in pain and needs new fillings. Partner is NHS patient but unfortunately the dentist she is seeing is closing down. We have tried other clinics but they all have so not accept NHS patients. Only option now is to buy private dental insurance for access to private dentists. However I am confused by the options available. We are keen on capitation (pay monthly) plan by DenPlan, but not sure if this would be affordable. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

You don't need insurance to get private dental work done. No one I know has it. Just find a dentist using Google (\[areaname\] + dentist) and make an appointment. It will cost around £50-100 for an initial checkup. If you need fillings, they will cost £100-200 each, depending on size. Many private dentists show their fees on their website. After the checkup, the dentist should give you a treatment plan, showing the exact work needed and the price for each element. If you can't afford it all at once, tell them - they may have finance options, or they may suggest delaying some of the work.

Point one, and this one's a star attraction, all existing work has to be done before cover can start. Personally I just pay to get the odd job done. This is my post COVID not seen dentist in 3-4 years 'odd job'. Just had two extractions. £700 each. Two fillings £350 each, well they were white and not that dodgy mercury type. Does not include checkup costs, £185, but this included xrays, bargain. So were at £2285, and he said it wouldn't hurt. ...and guess what, now to replace those two missing teeth. A quote of circa £2,500 each, yes each for two implants. Fortunately I can sell a few shares to cover it.

Where are you paying £700 per extraction at? My private dentist charges £175.

I'm with DenPlan. The problem is a lot of private plans won't cover you for pre-existing work - certainly when I signed up to DenPlan I had to get through the several hundred quids' worth of work the dentist identified before DenPlan would cover.
