Oh no way, I always remembered him from the episode of Frasier where they thought he was their dad. Did not even click that both are the guy from MASH.
While I enjoyed at least some of Laxwana Troi's character appearances on the TNG series, I never could understand or accept the reason for her being in the transporter room with Picard. She was not an official crew member and had no business being there. Her presence interfered with Picard's official mission and made things harder than needed.
Oh I get that. But she has a history of frequently interfering in affairs that are none of her business. I know it's all for the story. It would be a boring show if it was strictly by the book but her being there resulted in a major diplomatic issue that would never have occurred had she been confined to her quarters.
I think that would've been a great idea, even if it was only short term. She would have been a great advocate, being full Betazoid. Her ability to read adversaries would have given Picard an immense advantage in dealing with his diplomatic duties as well as Federation wise. That would only work, though, if she were able to temper her mouth and keep her opinions to Picard and not speak out like she is so prone to do.
That all being said, the popular consensus was for Picard and Crusher to get together, which they eventually did as shown in future scenes in the final episode. It would have been nice to see the changing dynamics of their relationship as Picard finally saw his love from afar come to fruition. Too bad that wasn't explored, except for in very short scenes throughout the series.
LOL! That would be rich. The changing dynamics would be interesting. I would imagine that if Picard and Laxwana Troi got married, DeAnna would be transferred to another ship as serving under him as a stepdaughter might be considered a conflict of interest. But who knows. Star Trek writers are no longer known for their writing prowess anymore.

This is one of my favorite episodes, specifically because of David Ogden Stiers' performance.

O’Brien: I’m not sure, let me ask my wife. She used to be married to Klinger. Still wears some of his dresses around our quarters.

A friend of mine briefly rented a house that David Ogden Stiers had owned. They said the counters were all very high.
