It'll be hard to replace the boys for sure as whoever gets the gig will be controlled by Amazon, not a partnership like the old boys were.
I don't really think car journalists make sense as unfortunately they're all a bit awkward in front of the camera (Car Throttle presenters old and new just makes me cringe).
Really you need travel enthusiasts I think who enjoy cars, people who by their travels are open minded and themselves unreservedly.
So is Amazon seriously going to try to keep Grand Tour going with new hosts? I thought we've been through this with Top Gear already, the best part of the show is the trio, not the cars and not the format.
He said he told Amazon to find some unknown car people don’t go with YouTubers don’t go with other automotive journalists give some young unknowns a chance
Okay I know this sounds dumb but real talk how would someone actually get a chance at that? I’d imagine step 1 would be to live in the UK right? Cause I don’t :(
You could always try to contact Amazon but honestly, I don't think they are going to follow Jeremy's advice, they'll get some semi famous car people similar to what top gear did.
Well, I am currently sending a couple of mock-up articles around to some automotive journalism firms (more specifically the editors), so I guess that might be a good first step, or rather, specifically becoming a car journalist, and actually being good at it. Thanks man!
Clarkson was 42 when he started Top Gear. I'm 41 now. I'm an unknown. Amazon hire me. I'm like Richard I hate food it will be comedy gold putting me in places I can't or won't eat anything.
I really hope they find three new slightly odd characters that have great interactions over their love of cars. That's what set Top Gear/TGT above, plenty of shows have fast cars, cool shots, informative reviews and comparisons, and even silly bits. The magic is that it's about your relationship with your vehicle, your many interactions happy and devastating, and the adventures you go on together. Don't try and replace the trio, don't bank on a famous face, but get three people who can voice what a car actually means to them, whose differing perspectives on the same path paint a more vivid and real picture, and you'll have a worthy successor.
If they do people need to give them time and a chance. Everyone acts like the trio just started episode one like they finished the last special. It took them time to be as good as they are and every new host of top gear was expected to be as good as prime clarksons, may and Hammond.
Jeremy said during his Q&A that his advice was for Amazon to do it with car journalist that are nobody’s and take it from there just like the trio when they first started at Top Gear.
But I don’t think that can happen simply because they tried doing that with the original Drive Tribe and found nothing. Just because when the trio did a review, they all told a story and used their imaginations. As well most cars right now are very soulless and carbon copies of each other
There’s also more competition out there than there was in 2002 when Top Gear was originally launched. They had 3 years to get established before even YouTube was out. Now there is a never ending stream of dopes who can throw out content at a pace the BBC or Amazon could never keep up with.
TBH we dont know what pre-determined issues were with the car before they started filming. I maybe mistaken but sometimes they take them out knowing they have issues that will trigger to get better TV
anyone knows if he kept the Rover SD1 from the final special? I’m really hoping he did, that car is a great legend in its own right; Rover’s last hurrah

Honestly wouldn't be surprised if they all kept their cars given these were their dream cars and last ones they will ever use.

May doesn't care about roadtrip cars, he kept only his beach buggy, I believe.
blumirage@reddit
In the video he says May has been in contact to do some content working on the Stag in the smallest cog so it looks like he may have kept it

The Stag is in Richards garage in the clip!

No youtubers? There goes my dream of having Bald and Bankrupt, Nikocado avocado and Destin from smarter everyday.

Very much so, I complain about sweating at work because it’s against my beliefs.
thedudefromsweden@reddit (OP)
You think we can just... Keep the pay that they had? And Mr Wilman?
Dead0nTarget@reddit
Doubtful, no names don’t get that kind of pay. But sure we get some nice benefits. For example an contract agreement on keeping the vehicles...
Mr. Wilman may still be up to producing. If not, we have r/thegrandtour determined the challenges each episode.
JJMcGee83@reddit
I'm willing to negotiate to half what they were getting.

Meanwhile cars are declining in popularity.
Seems like any continuation would be a challenge.

That Capri was terrible. And James didn’t even want the most reliable Stag that Triumph ever made? Come on.

The Capri is a classic and James still owns the Stag.
brett1081@reddit
That Capri had a ton of issues. I know the car is iconic. But it was about as good as Hammonds Argentina Mustang
YooperWolf@reddit
What?! The heavy, low slung sports coupe had issues driving off road? That's insane.
Even if it is a lemon, that's the last car of his career with Clarkson and May, it's worth it just based on sentimental value alone.
