“Those in need”, is a bit presumptuous don’t you think? How does anyone know that those people are actually “in need”. From my experience helping and talking to homeless people. The ones you see on the streets are the ones who need the least help, and are mostly just fuling an addiction they have no intention of addressing (because people give the money). I’ve heard some right horror stories from homeless people who have been threatened for begging on someone else’s patch, and other who have been told if they want to beg in the best places they have to pay up, any way they can. I won’t give money to the homeless, it’s pretty much the worse thing you can do. If you want to help, donate your money and/ or your time to homeless shelters and charities. Anything else just makes the situation worse.

you could just make the same valid point about the solutions being systemic rather than individual without doing all that uncompassionate moralizing, you know.

No, because people like yourself love to pat yourself on the back for making absolutely no effort to help these people. You give them some money and so you can feel better about yourself, irrespective of whether it helps anyone.

My man...maybe you can read, but that vein in your head is going to pop and why, all because someone said "uncompassionate"? Chill, dude.

> How does anyone know that those people are actually No body knows, including me and you. You either feel like giving or don't, it's not rocket science.

There's also a lot of scammers. There used to be a couple here who used their kids as leverage to beg for money, then be seen walking back to their brand new Mercedes.

Yeah, used to watch a Romanian woman who would sit outside the supermarket where I worked, on a black bin-liner full of cushions, not all her worldly possessions (as some people thought), begging all day. Only to be picked up by her husband in a top of the line E Class. Her house was bigger than my parents.

Yes, give to those campaigns who will keep 80% for reasons and give the 20% to deal with the homeless and downtrodden.
