Install driver to show hardware
Posted by Regular_Agency_7416@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 24 comments
After building my pc I dowloaded all the necessary drivers and windows on two seperate USB drives. When I boot up the pc it goes into Windows 11 setup and is says Install driver to show hardware, the USB drives are visible but when i open them they are empty and it says Error: No drivers were found. Does anyone know this error? I already tried reinstalling windows installation media, reformating the USB,… Nothing works.. please help

I managed to get this working by installing Windows 10 and then upgrading. The Windows 10 install medium seemed to work just fine. So I am not sure if the error is with Windows 11 or my install USB but either way give that a go if you are still having issues.

Thats exactly what I have done as well and it worked for me.

I think this is an issue with the new 24H2 installer, i have a USB burned with Windows 11 (i think version 23H2 but it could be older, I have to check) and it works as expected.
Also, the new 24H2 installer seems to have a renewed UI, maybe it has a role in this issue.

I am also supporting this theory. I have an HP Omen 15 with AMD and the Win11 23H2 ISO from UUP dump worked. I created the bootable drive using Rufus 4.5. This is the best solution for me right now, which is essentially a rollback.
I officially hate 24H2. 😂

I'm running into this issue right now too - where's the UUP dump you mentioned so I can get 23H2 for the bootable stick? Thanks!

Just google UUP Dump and you should be able to generate your own ISO. I didn't know how at first, I just watched a video on YouTube.

Thank you!

Commenting here so that this might help someone in future
I had a macbook and was using dd to burn the windows 10 ISO (same happened with windows 11 as well).
no drivers could be recognised during installation.
I borrowed my friend's windows laptop for some time and used Rufus to burn the ISO.
It worked!!

Hi, just read this because I had the same problem today. So in my case I have an MSI Mainboard and in the manual it says that this message is shown because Windows 11 does not support certain types of wifi chips natively. So all I had to do was downloading the wifi driver for this specific MoBo, unpacking the zip file and put the extracted file on the usb bootstick. Then start the pc, this window shows again and you just select the driver folder and click install.
Lil_Knut@reddit
Do you really mean just the wifi driver? As in the "Intel WIFI Driver" found at https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-B760-P-WIFI-DDR4/support#driver for example? I don't understand how that would resolve what is likely an NVMe drive issue.
Ericmosh1@reddit
It does not I think.. Like I said, I've read the manual and there was this part:
⚠Important ∙ Some new network chips have not been natively supported by Windows 10/ Windows 11. It is recommended that the LAN driver be installed before installing drivers with MSI Driver Utility Installer. Please refer to www.msi.com to install the LAN driver for your motherboard.
In my case, I installed OS from a bootable USB stick. Windows showed the "Install driver to show hardware" message, so I uplugged the stick and put the lan and wifi driver on it. Then the same message appeared, but I could click on the drivers folder and hit install, then windows booted.

same issue, same nvme, AMD also

I just installed a new NVMe drive on my laptop and I am getting the same error. Can I ask you, how did you create the install media and what kind of drive do you have?
I have a Kingston NV2 and I made the install media using Windows 11 Installation Assistant.
Hopefully we can figure this out!

I have exaxctly the same issue too Kingston nv2 SSD 1 tb. I wanted to upgrade from a normal SSD and did a wipe on my SSD. To install on the nvme SSD . And I couldn't get it to work. I'll give a update if the windows 10 one works
uhnahmate@reddit
Hey man did windows 10 work for you?
Squeasle10@reddit
Just here to say I am having the same issue today on a new build. Going to try the windows 10 strategy, will report back.
