Are the sounds coming from the whale?
Diver_Dave@reddit (OP)
Those sounds are actually coming from my snorkel! I was grinding it with my teeth out of excitement.

Thank you for the clarification. It’s ok and from my understanding whales make some wicked sounds underwater and the amplification is substantial. I would love to experience it my self. This far this is the closest I can get so thank you for your post!

Here is video of a male humpback singing under me. https://youtu.be/77E0LPRhWfk?feature=shared

You have gathered some great content. I just watched that link. That’s exactly what I was talking about. How wild! That’s what I need and want to experience!

Thanks! I really love these encounters. Check out www.humpbackswims.com

I feel like the mom is saying “Sorry excuse me sorry. Jimmothy, stop swimming like that!!”
Diver_Dave@reddit (OP)
It’s always Jimmothy.

He had to much sugar before this video.
Side note: did you take this video?
Diver_Dave@reddit (OP)
I shot this video last week in Tonga. It was an amazing experience!
hegui@reddit
That is awesome! How often do you get to see whales is it often or more rare?
Diver_Dave@reddit (OP)
In Tonga during the whale season (July-October), you will absolutely be in the water with whales. Check out www.humpbackswims.com

Damn after reading that site, it’s sounds a lot more predictable than I thought. That’s pretty cool
Diver_Dave@reddit (OP)
Highly, highly recommend. I’ve gone three times. Each time was amazing.

It’s also always nice to see whales move at real speed in videos. I mention this because it brings up the fact that you snorkel instead of scuba because “they move rather quickly”
Diver_Dave@reddit (OP)
Agreed. Sometimes showing the slow motion is cool because it lets you focus on details, but the normal speed makes it more “real”.

How do you not give it belly rubs when it shows its belly?
I thought you legally had to. :)
Diver_Dave@reddit (OP)
I really, really, really wanted to!
