Apple iBook G3 Clamshell - The Beginning of My Retro Tech Collection

Hey, I just wanted to share my foray into the retro tech community. :)
I purchased this iBook G3 from a friend. I believe it's the older model before the firewire port was added.
The case could do with some tlc, but I upgraded the RAM to 512MB, and swapped out the old IDE HDD for a 128GB M.2 SATA SSD with IDE adaptor. Whilst it was substantially easier to get into compared to newer Apple machines, this was still a gruelling tear-down just to get to the HDD.
Once finished, I tried to have it run a modern OS. I tinkered with a few such as Debian, Bohdi Linux, and modified versions of Lubuntu, but had the best results on Open BSD.
Viewing more text-based, simple web pages with lightweight browsers like Dillo were pleasantly smooth, and I was able to install some modern BSD applications via the repo without issue. Although Chocolate DOOM wouldn't run, no matter how hard I tried! (Skill issue)
Ultimately, I opted to stick with Mac OS 10.3, and use it to browse archived web pages and WarpStream via ProtoWeb. It's also nice to have the option if I want to run any older Mac software!
I had a lot of fun with it, and I can't wait expand my collection! :D

Nice! This was my first retro laptop I’ve bought also which I got a couple of months ago. I fixed it up and now I’ve got four other laptops on the way 😂

Coincidentally, I also just bought a clamshell iBook. I’ve started a retro kick with some old school LCD Cinema and Studio displays which I’m using with a modern PC but will also be using with an old Mac Pro once I rebuild it.
It was my old original 1,1 but the motherboard randomly fried so now I’m going to rebuild it as a 3,1 for newer Mac OS unofficial support.
