Accident Attorney Recommendations
Posted by Timely-Surprise-2598@reddit | plano | View on Reddit | 28 comments
I was in an accident and need to hire a good attorney. I was stopped at a red light when two cars collided at the intersection, causing one to slide into my car. The front of my vehicle is severely damaged, and the engine is making strange noises. I have dash cam footage that shows I'm not at fault. The police confirmed that the fault lies with the other drivers, but my insurance company won't cover damages until liability is established. This means I have to pay a $2,500 deductible for someone else's mistake, which is frustrating, and I'm also missing work. I'm looking for recommendations for a reliable attorney or any advice on how to handle this situation. Thank you.

that deductible situation sucks but unfortunately it’s pretty common while the insurance companies fight over liability. usually if the other driver is ultimately accepted at fault, your carrier reimburses your deductible later through subrogation, but it can take awhile.
with dash cam footage + police report saying you weren’t at fault, your case sounds pretty straightforward on liability at least. if you’re injured and missing work, that’s where talking to a lawyer actually starts making sense because insurance tends to move a lot slower once wage loss and treatment get involved.
honestly just call a few firms and see who doesn’t make you feel rushed. the firm i work for, angel reyes & associates, handles wrecks like this all the time in texas and they’re pretty good about telling people upfront whether they actually need representation or not.

In situations like this, a lot of people end up getting help from a personal injury or auto accident attorney because they can push the insurance process faster and work directly on recovering things like the deductible, repairs, and lost wages while fault is being sorted out.
If this is still ongoing or someone else is in a similar position, calling 800-276-9007 can be a simple starting point to get connected with local attorneys who can explain options based on the case and next steps without pressure.

That’s rough. You might want to reach out to Aldouslaw.com | Walker LLP they deal with complex accident cases and insurance issues like this

You don’t need a lawyer to get the car fixed, your insurer can chase theirs once you have the report/claim number. If there’s any pain/stiffness popping up in the next few days, that’s when I’d call someone good. In Dallas area, Reyes Law know this drill and don’t make PD the main event, they focus on the injury side: https://www.reyeslaw.com/

Did you give the crash report number to your insurance?
Greenbeanhead@reddit
Accident attorneys are a scam. They have you go to their doctor (which eats into your claim money). It’s a racket
When people hit your car you get their insurance information
caphair@reddit
Lol they aren’t though.
Greenbeanhead@reddit
OP’s car insurance just needs the other vehicles insurance. They will go after them.
No lawyer needed
swingsetmafia@reddit
Yeah I was in an accident, and the other insruance accepted fault. They offered me 3,000 but wouldn't budge. Got a lawyer that sent me to their docs and did the whole shebang. Ended up with 15k. yeah the lawyer got their cut but I also go way more than I would have otherwise.
Same thing with an ear plug lawsuit with the army. Lots of vets didn't get lawyers because they said they were a scam and you'd get nothing. Look up the 3M lawsuit on reddit and you'll find so many comments of vets that missed out because they listed to the people telling them lawyers are scams. I got 14k out of that (out of 24). Yeah the lawyers get their pound of flesh but I had 14k that I didn't have before and 14k more than the people who assumed lawyers were scams.

Lol. Ok bud.

Always take other party involved insurance info no matter what. Share that and accident details with your insurance agency, and they will deal with it. Though no police was involved with my accident, my insurance company took care of everything.

Attorneys represent you for injuries , not for property damage. They will “help” you with your car but won’t make it part of their case. You’ll see their doctors, their urgent care facilities, miss even more of work for treatment , and in the end use part of your insurance called PIP and underinsured BI.
Oh and they love to go to trial because they make even more off of you then. 30-40% at least. Oh and you’ll miss time from work for depositions, mediations, and trials, hope you have a job by that point for a measly 10k.
Like another person said. Just understand what you are getting in to. If they start pushing spinal injections or spinal fusions I would get second options from vetted providers.

I couldn’t talk to them as the police arrived immediately and the police has everyone’s insurance information on the case file. They asked me to get the police report once issued and it would contain all the information.
jjmoreta@reddit
If the police have confirmed to you that the other driver was determined at fault, that should be in the file. Get a copy of it and forward it to your insurance.
Timely-Surprise-2598@reddit (OP)
Yes, waiting for the same. It takes around 8-10 business days to get the report released said the police. I’ll have to collect my car before that from the body shop and I’ll be liable to pay the deductible. Need to figure out a way to handle this situation as it wasn’t my fault.
Ok_Ruin3993@reddit
You'll have to pay your deductible, no attorney can help you with that.
What exactly do you want the attorney for?
zero-misc-zero@reddit
Check out Burress Law.
I personally signed a retainer with them, however the fees slightly higher. Typically personal injury attorneys take 1/3 of the amount won.
Read reviews before signing.
I was personally was advised to use my own insurance company, even though the other party’s insurance accepted 100% at fault. Even though you pay the deductible, you’ll get it back in the end.
You don’t have to go through your insurance company if you do not want to. On the police report, you will find the other party’s insurance information - you can call them directly. In my case, my insurance company called the other party’s insurance company on my behalf, and was able to get me the information I needed such as the claim number, adjuster information, etc.
Pay the $6 for the police report, and see exactly how they worded the accident.
The attorneys at Burress Law advised me that they can help me with the personal damages, but won’t take any fees away from it. They explained it to me that if they took 1/3 away from what I was owed to repair my car, I wouldn’t have enough to repair my car.
Another thing I didn’t expect was getting by a TON of phone calls on my cell after the accident. I don’t know if my information was sold, but I ended up having to put “do not disturb” setting on my phone until it all calm down.
Anyway happy to answer any questions if needed. Feel free to DM me

If you have collision coverage, your insurance has to provide coverage for your loss.
Sounds like your damage is significant so it should be over your $2500 deductible and they can begin the process. Unfortunately you’re on the hook for the deductible until they get it back from the at fault party.

$2500 deductible? Seriously?

Hardin is my lawyer and has done a good job for me. He was a partner of mine at one of the law firms I worked at years ago. He's a good lawyer and a friend.

Are you injured? There is no "accident" attorney who will only deal with property damage. Most are Personal Injury attorneys who will help with bodily injuries and handle PD on the side as a courtesy.
Your best bet is to either pay the deductible or wait for their insurance if you are not reporting any injuries. It also wouldn't help you to get an attorney because let's say hypothetically they do only help you with a property damage claim, why would you pay them 30% of the value of the car which is all the claim is worth? Do it yourself and keep the full value.
bionica@reddit
Did you get the insurance information from the other drivers? Their insurance should be covering the cost of the repairs, not your insurance. You need to make a claim with their insurance.

Jeff Bogost took care of me when I was in this exact situation in September last year. If you want his info I’ll gladly send it your way
Otherwise, I’m no help. I can only give you the name of a good chiro, and offer an ear because I know how shitty that situation is. I’m sorry you’re going through that 😔
