Where should I buy a decent quality umbrella?

I feel like it is time for me to buy an umbrella that cost more than £5, anyone has a recommendation that’s not flimsy and where should I look for one? I’m willing to spend dozens of pounds

I got tired of replacing cheap umbrellas all the time, so I’ve been using one from archeradams and it’s held up better than most I’ve had before.

Came here looking for a normal umbrella rec and realised I’ve gone through way too many cheap ones over the years. Getting one from archeradams - definitely more on the premium side, not just your regular umbrella, which felt a bit overkill for me at first tbh. Bit of a stretch price-wise for what it is, but it does feel really solid and well-made compared to what I’ve had before.

Came here looking for a normal umbrella recommendation and realized I’ve basically been through a few too many cheap ones over the years 😅 Just decided to get something more solid and with one from archeradams. Not really a budget pick, which felt a bit over the top at first. Bit funny because I was just trying to get something reliable, and now I’ve got one of those handmade premium umbrellas that feels almost too nice to be carried around every day.

The boots extendable ones. Get the one that's slightly more expensive with a hook handle. Good heft and sturdy and doesn't turn inside out at the slightest wind.
Lasts me about a year but not because it breaks, but because inevitably I leave it somewhere.

Hey, would you be able to provide a link? Can't find this particular umbrella. Thanks

Fox umbrellas, in London, expensive but hand made quality.

I’m saw a recommendation on here for Davek. Had a look and they were £110. I was feeling flush at the time and bought one and… it is nice for an umbrella, but I doubt there’s much difference to a £30 one, unless you’re out in a gale. I’d maybe give one as a retirement or long service gift or something.

Fulton is the way

Got a foldable one from Muji (the big version which can extend to a long umbrella), used it for over 7 years at this point and still just as reliable

I have been using a Repel travel umbrella for years. I also had a Fulton one which was great but someone stole it.

I got umbrellas from a company called Blunt. It was quite an oof spending that much BUT it was worth it. They're really sturdy, really nice, and repairable - but I haven't had to repair either of mine. I'm in a windy part of the country and they've never turned inside out.
Lizkimo@reddit
Seconding this! If you’re willing and able to spend a little more, I think it’s well worth it. I like the automatic button press to expand and it feels very sturdy. The storage bag has a little zip to expand it while you’re trying to put it away, which is really handy as umbrellas never seem to fit in the same again after the first time.

get a fulton! i felt the same years ago, got fed up or them breaking and turning inside out. i invested in a fulton and i've had it 10years now! still just as good
Gungadin34@reddit
You can get some decent ones for free from trade shows / conferences. I have a FreeAgent one that's lasted me YEARS
Roaming_n_moanin@reddit
Ali express, or the tik tok shop are selling them cheap.
GreenCandle10@reddit
They literally state they don’t want cheap ones.

I got mine from 7-eleven in Tokyo. Apparently a full length umbrella doesn’t count towards your cabin baggage allowance, they just whack it through the x-ray and you can then board the plane while wielding it like some sort of eccentric umbrella person.

I’m so happy you replied. I travel to Japan regularly and 7/11 2000 yen umbrella is the best, but I was too scared to take it on plane. I am getting an umbrella here and now, but I will get one of them again in Japan and take it back home
bigfisheatlittleone@reddit
I brought back a 7-11 umbrella from Japan too. Don’t do as I did and check in the umbrella. When I got it back it was bent and full of holes.

What kind of umbrella? Do you want a light, folding one that is easy to carry, or a large umbrella which is more solid. Are you after golf-size, or one more fitting for narrow streets?
I have four decent umbrellas, one is very small but ultra-light for carrying all the time, one is large and clear (birdcage style), which is great when it’s really rainy, and you still need to see where you’re going, one is a light-coloured folding umbrella with silver lining which doubles as a sun-shade, and one is extra large and has a carrying strap, useful for festivals.
What kind of umbrella do you need?
PLPQ@reddit
I might buy a Fox umbrella myself.
Papertache@reddit
Mine's a £10 windproof one from Amazon. Not that windproof but it's sturdy and has some weight to it. My last one lasted me about 10 years. I still have it but parts are starting to rust a little. I keep it in my Fjallraven side pocket.

I have a Gustbuster Metro Umbrella that's still going strong since 2016:

If you don't mind carrying it around a double canopy golf umbrella.

If you won't lose it (because it's £££), Davek. Stands up to high winds, and the lifetime guarantee covers you in the event it doesn't.

Honestly, the state of UK education these days. Someone in the UK does not know what a decent umbrella looks like? Outrageous!

Can you bring me up to speed on the difference tensile strengths of aluminium and and polyethylene terephthalate? I'm assuming its common knowledge?

I got a couple from Brolliesgalore.co.uk. Birdcage style ones - or dome umbrellas I think they’re called? Had them for a year now and never had an issue with them!
