Help me make friends :D!

New to Plano, 24M - work remote (originally from Canada) but got an apartment here because I have a few relatives in the area.
I live alone, single, and frankly, starting to get bored of life here. Are there any fun things to do here? I want to be able to meet people, go out, do fun things - even if it's alone!
Suggestions would be great!

28F here! I moved to Plano a few months ago. Work from home so don't even have a colleague to chat face to face... I think I really need to try to make more friends but don't know how to start. DM me and we can talk haha. I am a very talkative person 😁

28M here originally from India. I’m on the same boat. Just moved to Plano and trying to make some friends. DM me. but my English accent is not the greatest lol

I (21F) am also working from home and have no buddies! Just shoot me a DM and we can talk!

As a fellow remote worker, 22F— I feel this! Will be stealing ideas from this comment section too! :))

Have you tried Spikeball?

if you’re down to drive a small distance, Denton is a college town and there’s tons to do. https://www.discoverdenton.com/things-to-do/

Download The Nudge App, it recommends activities/fun things to do anywhere in the US. The App logo is white with an orange "n"

I also wfh and posted a similar question when I first moved here a few years ago! I’d check out local run clubs — you don’t have to run, you can walk if you’d like and it’s a nice opportunity to meet w/the same folks regularly. I also have made friends working from coffee shops. Sometimes if you go to the same shops you’ll see the same people and can strike up conversations. Also, follow one of these pages where they announce what’s happening in dfw. I’ve been to events hosted by groups like that and have met people that way.
If you’re also dating, they’ll host things like speed dating or mixers. I haven’t actually dated anyone from one of those, but I’ve come away w/friends or been on a fun date or two!
I think Plano, Addison, etc are def more suburban but I’ve lived further north for years and have found it easier to meet people in aligned w/out here so I think you can too!! I also met one of my good friends here from that original post, so things can happen in very kismet ways! 😌

Or cycling club! PBA (Plano Bicycle Association) is very friendly and has a lot of rides all the way from extreme novice to crit racers!

Interested in a book club? Send me a message or look at my recent posts! We have a meet up coming up and you don’t have to read the book to attend :) we vote on the next book when we meet up

I’ll be your friend buddy.
Weak-Ganache-1566@reddit
What did you do for fun in Canada?
Best-Day-1413@reddit (OP)
Running, sports, but was from a small-ish town so I knew quite a few people.
Weak-Ganache-1566@reddit
There’s a lot of soccer and rugby clubs, flag football and softball. Obviously everyone is fixated on pickle ball too. It’s definitely tough not only meeting new people but meeting people you click with. Been here 20 years and most of our friends are transplants from outside Texas

Lots of people play Pickleball at Otto Middle School's Tennis Court. Worth a try?
HockeyBikeBeer@reddit
Do you like hockey?
CodeCherry@reddit
I’m surprised I haven’t seen pickleball suggested yet! There’s a few great places around my friend group goes to like Courts at McKinney or Highpoint. Bf and I are 25M and 24F — do you like to play video games by chance?

Plano Parks & Rec has 18+ sports leagues. My husband plays soccer in the fall and baseball in the spring with some fun people. I see biking groups all over town if you're into that! Find some places to volunteer?

If you're a board game person try Dallas Games Marathon, lots of nice people.

Join a gym. Play volleyball in a league, take tennis lessons or Dance lessons.
Go to Cowboys Red River for country dance lessons and I think they're free at least one day during week.
My daughter who's your age takes dance lessons at Studio 22 on Beltline/Preston in Addison and takes tennis lessons somewhere in Plano.
This should give you ideas.

This is awesome! Thank you! I used to dance as a kid haha might as well pick it up!

Plano Running Club is a fun option if you like to run. We organize events on facebook, but have something everyday if you’re willing to get up a little earlier.
For fun things alone, my dog and I like the dorba trails which are good for hiking or biking!

Use a website called Meetup. Lots of interesting groups for different activities and age ranges.

My friend recently invited me to go bowling. I'm now on a team, go regularly and am getting familiar with regular bowlers at Plano Super Bowl. If you're interested and have questions, dm me. I'm older so I'm sure you are looking for people your age. Just a suggestion.

Moving from UK to Addison in 4 weeks and also worried about this. Any hints or tips you can give me to make some friends would be great!

Can you list a few things you like to do? I also moved here from Canada years ago...it sure is tricky to get social around here.
GigglySlayer@reddit
There’s a couple of good karaoke spots in Plano and surrounding areas if you’re into that.

The suburbs might not be the best place for singles. Maybe try renting next closer to other singles, activity, nightlife.
But there are things to do in Plano. Many great trails, parks and rec centers. Go out and become a regular - you'll meet people. Also, look for local clubs. I'm involved in the running (Plano Pacers) and woodworking clubs (NTWA).
