*Topping this list: Hawaii. The Aloha State has the worst drivers in the nation with a large number of motorists running red lights, changing lanes, or turning without signaling and speeding 20 mph or more over the limit*. So when I was in the Army back in the late 90’s I was stationed in Hawaii. There were parts of the Island that had no street names , yes names, not signs, names.

I’m can’t believe MA isn’t on this list. I drove up there for a week a few months ago and it was crazy how unpredictable those drivers could be.

Since OP left out any mention of the states. Here is the list: 1. Hawaii 2. Oregon 3. New Mexico 4. Wyoming 5. Alaska 6. North Dakota 7. Connecticut 8. Vermont 9. Kansas 10. West Virginia 11. New Hampshire 12. Minnesota 13. Kentucky 14. Virginia 15. Arkansas

The premise of this study must be flawed. Any list of this type has to have Maryland near the top.

"MD drivers are so crazy" - VA driver in MD going 15 under the speed limit in the left lane despite getting passed on the right by 20 cars in the last five minutes.

Disagree. From minnesota, the worst place to drive is wisconsin. Five under the speed limit in the left hand lane running parallel with the semi truck in the right hand lane? Yep, it's a Wisconsin plate.

Lived in MD for past year. Marylanders are ridiculous. There's always someone going 35 and another going 95 in a 55 zone. Then in my area of Maryland there's Amish rising around in buggies on those same roads. Not to mention reason areas of camera enforced ticket zones where everyone slams on their brakes abruptly but the 1-2 guys that don't read the sign fly through and swerve by everyone to maintain their 95-100 mph.

Currently in Maui. The speed limits here range from 45 to 55, and nearly everyone abides by it aside from a few drivers I've seen weaving through cars. Overall I've been impressed with the drivers here.

Wtf Oregon #2? No way this is accurate.  When I travel outside of Oregon I have up my aggressiveness and selfishness several notches to fit in.  One could probably just look at places with highest insurance to find a better correlation.
View on Reddit #36678126

Portland recently won most well behaved drivers in another recent study, and those are the most aggressive drivers in the state after maybe Eugene because of the students, so something fishy is up with this one.
View on Reddit #36687723

STRMfrmXMN@reddit

The "study" from Forbes (which is basically a Tabloid Plus these days) was from self-reported data. Having lived in Oregon my whole life, I don't think anywhere on the west coast is particularly horrible for driving. Drivers are relaxed and relatively predictable here, which makes driving a lot safer. I genuinely did not see a single driver use their turn signals when I drove through Massachusetts a couple years ago. I'll take my side of the country for driving any day!

Some of the "most dangerous states" have lower fatality rates than their least dangerous. It goes by a survey with people admitting "dangerous acts"...if it was by tickets Virginia would probably be #1 despite being one of the more deadly states to drive in. Arkansas is top 5 deadliest states. New Mexican's admitting to going 20 over earned them their spot, probably regular traffic flow on those big empty highways.

Yeah I think the biggest problem for Florida is with the snowbirds and vacationers. these two types come from all parts of the country. The hustle and bustle of the NY NJ metro area vs the laid back Midwest drivers. Do they even have stop lights in Iowa? Snowbirds also tend to be old and entitled, can hear or see very well.. and like their adult beverages when dining. Just my humble observations
View on Reddit #36688972

8020GroundBeef@reddit

It’s more a mix of old crazy and young crazy, a barbell distribution of speeds on any type of road, and a blatant disregard (or often unawareness) for safety and road signs

View on Reddit #36676184

dottirjola_9@reddit

That is not fair, though, because on any given day, Florida, anywhere in the state, has a significant % of drivers who are new to the area or are tourists. It is not the FL residents who are horrible drivers, it is the visitors and newbies, mostly.

Lexington might not be bad compared to Atlanta, but the drivers here are some crazy people. My stepdad is from Chicago and says these drivers are the rudest he’s ever seen. And with all the construction on 75 and other various roads, it’s been insane
View on Reddit #36681778

handymanshandle@reddit

Maybe it’s because I’m so numb to bad driving from Alabama, but it’s still not the worst I’ve been around. Traffic absolutely sucks in Lexington, though. The complete lack of arterial roads really makes it annoying to drive in.
View on Reddit #36681900

Kavani18@reddit

Oh yeah, traffic in this city is incredibly bad for a city this size. Worse than other similarly sized cities. I live on one of the main roads and they’re doing construction and traffic will get backed up miles and miles to downtown. Desperately need either better public transport or an out loop. Or both

View on Reddit #36710090

Having lived 25 years in Texas, I call full shenanigans on this. Texas drivers will kill 15 people just to pass someone, and then slow down to wait for someone else to challenge them. New your drivers are aggressive, but they’re purposeful - they’re going to make a turn, or merge, and that’s final, youse hear me? Florida, angry and impaired. California? Defeated and desperate. Minnesota? Mostly polite, sometimes to the extent of COMING TO A FULL STOP TO LET SOMEONE PASS! DC/NoVa? I think most of the drivers have at least two bench warrants out. Unpredictable. Arizona? Distracted. Except on loop 101 in Scottsdale/phoenix. On that area, they’ll do 120 in the right lane, and the slow drivers heading for the left lane will just drive across four lanes, thanks very much.
View on Reddit #36710003

tsurutatdk@reddit

Lol, every place has its best and worst drivers, depending on how you manage your driving. Anyway, I know a few drivers who are already using Natix to earn from street mapping, which is a great way to enjoy the ride while making money at the same time.

Connecticut drivers, I would’ve expected to rank higher on the list. I’ve literally sat at intersections where people aggressively wave each other through, completely ignoring traffic rules. It’s like they’re more focused on being “polite” than paying attention to safety. They’ll wave you in when it’s not even safe to go, then get annoyed if you don’t risk an accident just to follow their lead.

Not_Daijoubu@reddit

Been in Ohio, Illinois, and Kansas for a couple months to years each. Anecdotally, I had the best experience with Ohio drivers around the Akron and Cleveland areas, nothing really stood out to me. Chicago drivers really like their horn and speeding (45mph+ in 30 or even 25mph zones), and I can guarantee finding a traffic weaver almost anytime I drive up there. Kansas City... I feel like the typical driver is pretty tame versus in Chicago except I seemed to have had a lot more run ins with outliers - going probably 90-100mph with no headlights at night, really aggressive tailgating in the right lane for some reason, a good number of people missing an exit and yanking back on the freeway way too late. Shitty driving that doesn't simply annoy you but terrifies you.
View on Reddit #36674737

Chi-Guy86@reddit

There’s a pretty big divide between drivers in Chicago proper and the outlying suburbs. And yes, people in Chicago love their horns. Me included. I live in Tampa now and everyone here is shocked how much I use my horn lol.
View on Reddit #36675311

shadowkiller@reddit

The suburbs are fast too. 10-15 over is standard. A lot of people running red lights and staring at their phone. Not many people using their horns, got to be polite when driving like a moron.

I don't know, this seems questionable? Analyzis of insurance accident reporting while imperfect would be better indicator than arbitrary law enforcement data. The level of enforcement can vary so different from state to state, while insurance accident reporting is at least going to be roughly the same. This seems like a better data on what enforcement each state is doing rather than necessarily a good indicator of driver quality?

I've been living in Maryland, really close to DC, for the past year, by far this is the worst state I've lived in with the worst drivers. I love driving but I'm starting to hate it because of these fuckers. I've seen these assholes take a right turn from a left turn lane. Just no sense of road rules or driving it seems. I literally was in a middle lane to turn left and somebody decided to go around somebody else and use that lane as a passing lane and was close to ramming me head-on. The only thing that saved them is there was no traffic around me on the other side so he went into that lane to get around me and then had the audacity to honk his horn like I was in his fucking way for making an illegal pass. Just straight up assholes around here must be all the shitty politicians and the rot that seeps into the land and the people. I'm out here for work but I wouldn't live here otherwise.
