Being from Sacramento area I loved Little Guilt Shrine or just LGS. I think some of there stuff is on Spotify. A couple acts I discovered in the early 2000’a that made great music in the 90s are The Mountain Goats and Neutral Milk Hotel. To clarify, the mountain goats are still making good music, but they use to too.

Idles' TANGK is one of the best albums this year imo, so good. That and The Last Dinner Party's 'Prelude to Ecstasy'. Based on your list you might enjoy Man Man. They put out a new album this year, but their best stuff is earlier 2005-2015 era. Rabbit Habits or Life Fantastic are good starting points.

Thank you very much! I love me some Kurt Vile, lots of the others on the list are still new to me. While yeah I'm disappointed I missed out at the time, I'm super excited to find them. Personally I feel like the Pandora algorithm is superior to Spotify. I am constantly discovering new (to me) artists ever since switching over to Pandora a few years ago. Spotify felt like listening to the radio - a lot of repeated tunes. Happy listening! And yes, Kurt Vile is amazing!!!

That's actually why I stopped using Pandora many years ago, their algorithms were the best, but they didn't seem to have much music licensed so it would just repeat all the time. Sounds like it might be time to give them another shot.

If you like weird metal music people went from Kyuss to Queens of the Stone Age and they did this weird side recording project called the Desert Sessions, which I loved. PJ Harvey sand on some tracks. Also PJ Harvey while we’re at it.

The Dischord records catalog of the 80s/90s is essential listening IMO- from early bands like Minor Threat, Faith, and Void, to Rites of Spring (super early emo, like crying on stage emo), to Nation Of Ulysses, to Slant Six, to Lungfish, to Fugazi, and so many bands in between. The DC bands were a huge part of my upbringing.

Bad Brains. Minor Threat. Fugazi. Give these a listen. Fugazi, is my favorite post-punk DC band that I continue to listen to weekly. The lyrical content is far beyond even creative punk rock’s scope imo. The music is a grown up approach to punk rock, and I can vouch for seeing them live. They are the real deal. I wish they still played.

Probably not your jam but the one big musician that eluded me in my youth that I found out about later and would've loved was Ayreon, who had been making albums right up my alley since like 1995. I didn't hear about him until maybe 2012.

I only just recently got into the Fastbacks, Seattle-based punk rock with two women in the band, got their start before grunge and for some reason just never got big, but I think they're fantastic. If you've never actually listened to the first few Queen albums, they blew me away when I finally did back in like 2018. Check out Built to Spill and The Donnas, too. And Metric (Canadian band). Also They Might Be Giants has been putting out music for decades and have built up a catalog of great tunes, and always put on a fantastic live show.

Ryan Adams sucks because of his mistreatment of women but the alt country movement of that era was great. Wilco, Son Volt, Bottle Rockets, Golden Smog, Jason and the Scorchers, Drive By Truckers (more Southern rock), the Jayhawks, etc

Look into a genre you missed out on - I personally never gave much thought to punk because I assumed it was all off-key, poorly played noise. I got started on Pandora Plus with The Pogues, then The Ramones, then Misfits, Social Distortion, etc and now it's all I really listen to - even the less accessible stuff like Dead Kennedys are amazing (once you get used to Jellos unique voice)

I've been into punk since back in the day, but didn't check out the Pogues until like 2009, "Red Roses for Me" is one of my favorite albums now, and helped prime the pump for me getting into folk punk a few years ago (the Violent Femmes too, of course, I saw them live in 1998).

Yeah I did get the Biohazard/Onyx track! I had a girlfriend that was into metal and she got me into some of it at the time. Local stuff mainly though as we went to a lot of shows. Great times seeing bands at the local elks club or church or whatever!

Not a band of our youth but the band Fair to Middling came out with two really good albums that few people seem to have heard of. They had 1 radio song, Dance of the Manatee, but not much else played anywhere else. They’re really talented and have a unique sound, but they disbanded because they didn’t do too many sales. Arrows and Anchors is a top 5 album for me and gets replayed front to back frequently
