Is the Optane P905 any good in this day & age?

I work with hardware a lot, so I'm fortunate enough to have a couple of Optane 5800X drives. I use them as OS drive and mostly just for testbenches, experiments, quick setups etc. just because they are noticeably faster when installing software and updates.

But with winter coming, I want to upgrade my own rig a little and potentially do a few builds for friends and family. And 5800X are too damn expensive to seriously consider, the first Optane generation that is affordable is the P905, which goes for around $600 for 1.5TB. Not great, but when compared with a Gen5 drive like a 2TB T705, it's not that bad either.

But I struggle to find any good comparisons or head-to-head tests with a T700/705 or at least a Samsung 990 Pro to work out whether going Gen5 off the shelf ends up being faster in terms of responsive system/updates/installing stuff.

Latency is (in theory) still a lot better for Optane. But if it responds fast but then takes two full seconds longer to fork over the data, for example, it would end up feeling less responsive. So idk if anyone has tested it for things like windows install, game load-times etc.
