What is your stance on professional resume writers?

Can an experienced recruiter type person review and rewrite your resume with sufficient customization for your career specifics?
Has it yielded tangible results for you? If you used services like this, how much did it cost you? Any recommendations?
I'm looking to refresh my resume and making this post while dealing with writers block. I can see a professional giving me feedback on areas to shore up or reword, or help with design, but I'm thinking I'll still have to generate all the base content myself. So what's even the point..
caiteha@reddit
Maybe just use gen AI?
silent_whisper1@reddit
When it comes to something as important as a CV, writer's block is the worst. My skepticism toward professional resume writers was similar. They can certainly polish it up, but can they truly customize it to fit my particular career path without me having to write half of it myself?
I then began my study, delving deeply into platforms, reviews, and comparison pieces, and my goodness, what a jungle it is out there. Around a lot of well-known services, I saw a lot of hostility. A few names, however, kept coming up with really positive comments amid that mess. Among them was EssayMarket, which isn't really a resume writing service, but reviews indicated that the content was well-written and meticulous.
In the end, I chose SpeedyPaper myself. To be honest? I'm so glad I did. In addition to being well-written and more targeted, the resume they created felt like me. It clearly demonstrated my value, landed me interview callbacks, and cleared ATS filters. Before I made my choice, I even came across this article, which provided me with a good summary (I highly recommend reading it): https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/4-best-executive-resume-writing-services-everyone-albert-yu-gbtwc.
hamiltonchristie26@reddit
Appreciate the link drop too—this LinkedIn article is actually one of the few helpful rundowns that doesn’t feel paid off. It’s a jungle out there for real.

Oh, I totally get that writer's block – it’s like trying to get a cat to walk in a straight line. 😂 But honestly, I had a similar dilemma before, and after I finally gave in and used a resume service, it was a total game-changer. I used the service recommended in this post here's the link and they helped me reframe my whole career narrative. It wasn’t just about the words—they helped me highlight my strengths and made everything look super clean and professional. The best part? It was completely tailored to my field, which is exactly what you need.
I didn’t have to stress over format or how to word everything; they got it done so well that I only had to tweak a couple of things. Totally worth the investment for the peace of mind and for the “wow” factor from recruiters. Anyone else here had similar experiences with resume services?
BenitoPragati1@reddit
Love the cat analogy—resume writing really does feel like herding chaos into a straight line. And yeah, having a pro help reframe your career story makes a huge difference.
I had the same struggle until I used ProResumeHelp—they took what felt like a random pile of experience and turned it into a clear, compelling career narrative. It wasn’t just about slapping keywords on a page; they actually made my strengths stand out in a way that got real recruiter attention.
xumrdokiuhg@reddit
I totally get where you're coming from – the idea of paying for someone to help you with your resume when you still feel like you're doing all the heavy lifting can be frustrating. But here's the thing: a professional resume writer (or even a recruiter) can help you in ways you might not realize. They can identify gaps, provide clarity, and ensure that your resume is optimized for the job market. It's more than just rewording – it's about presenting your experience in the best light possible.
As for the cost, it really varies. I’ve used services like SpeedyPaper before for resume-related tweaks, and I found their approach very personalized, even though I had to provide the core content. They helped me fine-tune the language and gave my resume a clean, modern design. It wasn't outrageously expensive, and I noticed more traction from recruiters after that.
frederi_c_co@reddit
Totally get where you're coming from—I was skeptical too. Like, why pay someone when I know my own experience best, right? But turns out, translating ‘I do a lot of stuff’ into ‘Here’s why you should hire me’ is an actual skill. 😅 I went with ProResumeHelp and they didn’t just tweak my wording—they made my resume pop in a way that got recruiters actually responding. Cost was reasonable (way less than another month of job hunting), and tbh, it saved me a ton of stress. Worth it if you’re stuck in resume purgatory. You thinking of doing a full revamp or just minor tweaks?
nurshakil10@reddit
Thanks for your work. This is very important, if you write your own resume, that will be great one. But if you want, can get some excellent resume writers. If you work with them, will be realize their experience about resume writing services. After getting the primary information, they will research your resume and focus your key point. Not only use the key-point but also will use attractive and unique template. As a result, you will get the most acceptable resume and it will work as like a magnet to gain the jobs.
robmartell@reddit
I had the same concerns when I was updating my resume. Before diving in, I checked a bunch of reviews and ratings on different platforms, and honestly, I found a lot of mixed opinions. Some services were downright disappointing, but at the same time, I came across some really promising options.
That’s how I found SpeedyPaper – it had some solid reviews, and I figured I’d give it a try. My experience? Much better than I expected. The writer I worked with didn’t just tweak the wording; he actually restructured my resume to highlight my strengths in a way I hadn’t thought of. They also optimized it for ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems), which I honestly wouldn’t have thought to do on my own.
If you’re thinking about using a resume writing service, be sure to compare reviews before you choose one. Also, while researching, I found this article reviewing different writing services, and it gave me a broader perspective on what to look for.

I've known Vintzel Thomas(VINTZELTHOMAS. Working with Thomas professionally was great, he really helped me make my CV more ATS friendly (even though it was a struggle for me as a former designer IYKY) and it was even a team effort as he was keen on rewording or tweaking things when I gave feedback in real-time. I used his services again to do some interview prep, and it really helped me find a job quicker with some minor tweaks he suggested. I would definitely recommend and if I find myself looking for a job again, will call him again ;)

Honestly, I was getting zero callbacks before, and it was super frustrating. Ended up trying this Fiverr seller and went for the full package—resume, cover letter, LinkedIn. Hiring a professional resume writer can be a game-changer, especially if you’re struggling with writer’s block or unsure how to highlight your strengths. A good writer won’t just polish your prose—they’ll help you craft a document tailored to your career goals, optimize it for ATS, and ensure it speaks to both hiring managers and recruiters.

An experienced writer can craft a 100% personalized resume that highlights your skills for the job. But does every writer or service deliver that? Not necessarily. The writer needs to be both talented and passionate to do the job well. And let’s face it—resume writers don’t get paid much. For instance, if a resume costs you $120 (as seen in top service rates), the writer only receives a fraction of that. Considering the limited time they have to work on each resume, it’s not great pay, especially for native English speakers.
So, yes, you could get a fantastic resume—or a terrible one if you’re unlucky. It’s a bit of a gamble, so choosing the right service matters.

I've used a professional resume writing service before, and honestly, it was worth it. I thought the same as you, like, “what’s the point if I’m providing the base content?” But the magic is in how they tweak it to match what recruiters are looking for, plus the way they format everything to stand out.
If you're thinking about using one, I’d recommend checking out Resume101. There’s a post about how they helped someone out a lot here. They customize based on your career specifics, which is what I needed when I had no clue how to make my experience sound impressive.
As for cost, it depends on how detailed you want it, but the results speak for themselves – landed interviews I probably wouldn't have otherwise!

I think professional resume writers can be a great investment, especially if you're dealing with writer's block. They know how to tailor your resume for specific industries and what recruiters look for, helping to polish and design it. Costs can range from $100 to $500, but if you're looking for a free option, Jobsolv can help you create and customize your resume without the expense.

A professional resume writer can highlight your strengths and tailor your resume to stand out. After working with a resume writer, I started getting more interview invites than before, two weeks later I got a remote job working for 3 days a week. My resume make over was done by Boxresume, and it was worth it.
