What is the most coincidental thing that's ever happened to you?

Something that borders on divine intervention almost?

Djing some drum n bass at a mates party at his house in rural Wales. Turns out the first tune I play is by one of the guests at the party. He was my mates older sisters best mate, we still talk about how surreal it was years later.

We were driving on roads through endless American woodland, completely lost, and I started joking how it seemed like a horror movie where the heroes are followed by a serial killer in a truck. Well not five minutes later we realised we were being followed by a truck, which was far too close and kept flashing its lights. We took random turnings and even doubled back on our self trying to persuade ourselves they weren't really following, but they kept coming. We were shitting ourselves. We didn't have mobile phones or anything to defend ourselves with. We really went for it, speeding as fast as we could, but we had a crappy car and the truck effortlessly overtook us and blocked the road. I was effectively screaming at this point. It was a woman I'd met on one other occasion, who'd recognised our car and "wanted to say hello".

When I was 16 we got a plane to Jersey for a week’s holiday. On the holiday was a dad and his two kids who continuously kicked our chairs and were generally being really annoying (thankfully the flight was only half an hour). On the way back, not only were they on the exact same flight but they were also sitting directly behind us again (and another lovely half hour of having my seat kicked 🙃)

ha! We went to Tunisia, we flew from Manchester and stayed in a hotel there the night before our flight. There was a family in the hotel, we saw them in the airport, we sat very close to them on the plane, then they got on a different transfer from the airport. Lo and behold, got to the hotel and there they were, same holiday just booked through a different operator. Very disappointed that we were sat far apart on the return flight.

I had a dream that my mum disappeared and we couldn’t find her. In the dream I was convinced she must have been kidnapped because she never would have left us intentionally. I vividly remember waking up and down my grandparent’s street in the dream, looking for her and worrying. When I woke up, I thought nothing more of it than that it was a weird dream and went about my day as usual. Later that morning I got a phone call to tell me that my mum had died. It was completely sudden and unexpected. We didn’t know why at the time but it turns out she had had a blood clot in her lung. I’ve never experienced a sudden loss like that. Here one minute, gone the next. It was heartbreaking and eerie, truly like she had just disappeared. Dreaming that she’d disappeared mere hours before she did effectively die and disappear forever is the weirdest coincidence of my life. I think I’ve only mentioned it to my partner and maybe my closest friend and a sibling because, quite frankly, it sounds made up. But it really happened.

My best friend who I did everything with, my sister if you will was with me at my first 2 children’s births, it prompted her to leave her job and do midwifery, she unfortunately got stage 4 bowel cancer at 27 she died within 6 weeks, one of our last conversations (when she knew she was dying) was that i wanted her to be with me if i had anymore kids… 6months after she died I got caught pregnant, 9 months later i went to give birth, i was super emotional as she wasn’t there anyway, I was taken down to the delivery suit my midwife came in to introduce herself she would be delivering my baby and her name was Alison, my best friend who had passed away was called Alison, i almost passed out and completely broke down crying, it was beautiful for me, and i do believe it was Devine intervention not coincidence 😇

I'm skeptical of like, ghosts. But this stuff, I definitely think it's a message/sign. I sometimes wonder if babies can see, or sense, spirits or something. My dad died real sudden, mum would eat her dinner with a photo of my dad at the table. The first time she did this a butterfly landed on the photo. Some things are just too much.

Woke up from a nightmare & switched my bedside light on, it flickered & blew. Got out of my bed to the bedroom lightswitch, the bulb flickered & blew. Went outside to the landing light switch, the bulb flickered & blew. Eventually found a torch that worked & went to the fusebox - everything was fine, was just coincidence had no further problems like it.

Did you happen to fit all those lightbulbs on the same day, all from the same batch you got from the shop?

That would be a reasonable assumption but no, they'd been changed independently over many years.

I have a light bulb related coincidence too. Years ago in our first flat I got something out the hallway cupboard and saw our boxes of new light bulbs on the shelf. I thought to myself "it's weird how you only ever need to replace bulbs when they blow by being switched on". _At that precise second_ the bulb in the light which was on immediately in front of the cupboard went out and needed replacing.

I used to play Xbox 360 online with a kid from Morecambe all the time when I was younger who had a very distinctive scratchy high pitched voice. After a year or so of speaking to him I went away with my family and we stopped off at the Asda in Morecambe to buy dinner. I wandered around while they were shopping, walked through the cereal aisle and swore I recognised the voice of a kid that was shopping with his mother as it was almost 1:1 with the lad I knew. I was too awkward to query it at the time but checked with him when I got home, we’d been in the same aisle of the same shop at the same time after playing games with eachother for a year and living over 200 miles apart.

One day, I was mindlessly scrolling YouTube shorts when I came across a rather funny video. One so funny, that it was only right to delve into the comment section. And so I did. And in that comment section I'd go on to find a comment that would change my life.  What it read is irrelevant. It was just another comment amongst the other 70,000. However, contained within said comment, was a reply from someone with a scarily familiar name. For good reason. As, upon further inspection, it was him. I had just found the YouTube account of one of my old college mates. In a random reply section of a random comment, in a random YouTube short. Completely random. What's crazier is that it was not a comment; but a reply to a comment in a sea of 70,000+ other comments.  I still think about it to this day. Glad to have it off my chest.

Arrived at Paddington to see family. My mate G called me, saying ‘I’m here, where are you?’ I say ‘Oh hi G. What’s up?!’ knowing she didn’t mean to ring me. Just as G says ‘Oops sorry, called you by accident, I meant to phone my sister, I’m meeting her at Padd-‘ she and I lock eyes in the crowded station, in absolute incredulity, 10m apart. Her sis and my name are not similar, I wasn’t in her recent dials, and she very rarely gets the train. I don’t see her around anywhere other than our home town. The one time she does, she calls me by accident while I’m standing 10 metres away from her.

I have a friend who I knew from nursery and caught back up with in high school. We didn’t particularly get on well throughout the final years of high school because of a girl he was seeing was friends with a girl I was seeing and politics got in the way. But since leaving we’ve seen each other at various events, his dad also owns a garage and I’d see him every now and then when I took my car in as he worked there. But two years ago I was talking to my girlfriend about him, and around that time, I had a car accident where I ended up in a ditch. People were stopping and checking we were okay, but next thing this friend of mine in question pulled up to check if we were alright and helped get me out of the car. As my car was written off, him and his girlfriend took our shopping home for us whilst we waited for recovery. It was a few months later, me and my girlfriend were out walking and we got talking about friends and social lives. I said to her that I wish me and this guy had a better social life as I’ve known him for years, but instead we just end up randomly bumping into each other every once in a while. Ten minutes later, we walked into our local co-op, and him and his girlfriend were there again. Few weeks later, we went for coffee and breakfast one Sunday morning and I joked saying “watch out we’ll end up bumping into them in here!” And as we were leaving, they were just coming in. And it just so happens every time we talk about him, we bump into him somewhere

I was off work one afternoon because my Mum was being discharged from hospital after cancer surgery and I was going to pick her up. While I was waiting, I went on YikYak (for anyone who’s not heard of it, it was a location based chat app thing from about 10 years ago). I randomly got talking to a girl and we met up a couple of days later on bonfire night 2015. We’ve been together almost 9 years now. My Mum is fine now, but my partner and I have occasionally noted that if she’d not had cancer we’d never have met. Also coincidentally, a couple of months later we got a kitten for my Mum which was also born on the same day. Bonfire night 2015, a lot happened.

When Eurovision is on, we throw a party. You get randomly assigned a country in the final, and then you turn up in fancy dress for that country. One year, a mate who got Albania had to work late so just came straight to the party and didn't go home first to get his outfit, so he was just in casual clothes. When the votes were coming it at the end, the representative from Albania was wearing exactly what my mate was wearing, right down to the brand of t-shirt.

Not me but my stepdad was driving to work on a very bitter snowy day. Car demisters weren't handling the job and screen iced up so he stopped and jumped out to scrape the windscreen again. Visibility being next to nothing, he didn't see the old lady standing right there at the roadside waiting for her son...who drove that exact make, model and colour of car. And as the screen had iced, she didn't see that it wasn't her son. So he jumps out, she jumps in, doors bang at the precise same second. She's fiddling in her handbag, he's scraping the screen, neither notices the other until he jumps back in and then.... arrrggh who the FUCK are YOU??😂😂😂

Did my masters in Leeds (I am not originally from the UK) and lived in a house share with some people who I am still friends with. I eventually moved out of that place but before leaving this Canadian girl rented one of the rooms. Never got to know her well but she was nice and very friendly like most Canadians. This lady was a teacher and after a few years in the UK she ended up moving to some other country, never heard much more of her. I went back to my home county to visit my family and friends like I try to do often and while in some random bar I bumped into her again! She was not only living there but also in the same apartment building as my brother! She worked as a teacher at my cousins school as well. She’s still living there with her partner (my brother moved out from that apartment and she did too though)

Not me but my in-laws although I was there at the time it happened... were sorting through some old photos and found a newspaper clipping in with the photos, they didn't know each other before the age of 35, the newspaper article was of mother in law winning a sporting competition in her teens, a she held it up to read the article aloud father in law spotted a picture of himself on the reverse side, he was also in the paper for another sporting event on the reverse side of this clipping that was no bigger than 3 inches square! Madness! They didn't even know each other then either!

I was at the first full team meeting in a job I had been in for 5 months. For context this was during Covid and I had taken paycut as I was changing field. I was sitting at a table with colleagues who were bitching about how the interesting cases go to another service doing a similar role that I had never heard of so I went home and looked it up. Within a week, jobs were advertised and I applied and was successful. Within less than a year in that post, posts at a higher grade came up that I was qualified for and the starting salary was 10k more a year than I would have been on at the top of the pay scale in the original job. Applied and got that. No one else at that table appears to have either applied for or been successful in securing a role in the service I now work in and I heard last week that they are being redeployed as roles now defunct. So glad for that overheard conversation

Was going on holiday to Croatia. Month before the entire country had a blackout. Then the airport we were flying from had a blackout. On the way to the airport we pulled into services, who were also having a blackout. As we were leaving the threshold of the airport the lights all flickered, it was very creepy.

I checked in to a hostel in Bogotá, after a very scary incident with a taxi (story for another day). The guy che king me in was acting a bit weird, asked me if I’d just checked out, stared at my passport a few times but said nothing else I got a few second glances the next day, and two people separately started talking to me like they had met me before, one said ‘hey I thought you were leaving’ Turns out some who looked exactly like me had checked out of the hostel the same day. Was interviewed for a job and had an email from the interviewer saying they were going to offer it to me but needed approval first, then I heard nothing. They stopped replying to my emails so I assumed they just decided to ghost me. Saw a post in an industry subreddit and a couple of clues in the post suggested the OP had just started working at the company I'd just interviewed for so I pm'd them to see what had happened. Turned out my interviewer had died and they'd been unable to access his emails to see who he'd been communicating with. Started work the following week thanks to seeing a random post on Reddit.

During GCSE German I sat next to a lad from a different friend group to mine, we spoke during classes etc but never outside of this class so it was only surface level stuff. Went on holiday to Florida with my family during the summer after the exams, one night we decided last minute to stop at a random Chinese restaurant. When we were led to our table we were seated on the table next to the same lad and his family who were out there too. Neither of us knew the other was going etc. Another one was when my dad left the army we went to Australia for 6 weeks, we were in a town about 30 min east of Melbourne when he bumped into someone he had done his basic training with 24 years previously who had also just left the army. They hadn't seen each other for 22 years and both ended up in the same shopping centre in Australia.

Got chatting to a guy who had just moved to the area and he was asking me about the usual things, what’s good etc. He asked me my name and I gave it to him. He looked at me and then said that’s my name. Told him nah you’re pulling my leg. He showed me his gym membership, exact same name. I had an obscure surname at the time, Maloney, so the chances of meeting someone with that is quite rare. The same first name, even rarer. In the sauna….awkward haha. Proper random.

2 coincidences in 1 here. I had never in my life found a 4 leaf clover and I'm sat on some grass that was covered in clovers in Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, Korea. I'm talking to an ex girlfriend about clovers, 4 leaf clovers, their superstitious folklore, explaining all that to her. I grew up in the countryside and in all my life id never found a four leaf clover. As I'm saying this I notice that I'm staring at a perfect 5 leaf clover. I was amazed, the gf not so much. The chances of actually finding the clover at all let alone with the added coincidence of talking about never finding a clover was not significant to her at all. Anyway cut to a few years later and I'm stood in a field with a friend and there are loads of clovers. I'm telling them the above story and how much of a coincidence it was. I look down and the first thing I see was another 5 leaf clover.

It's not me, but our decorator, Paul, told us a really funny story. I live in Castleford and Rugby League is big here. Some years back, Paul went on holiday in Australia and he was walking on the beach shortly after he arrived, when he saw an older man jog past in a Castleford Tigers shirt. So he felt he had to stop him and ask the connection. Turned out it was the dad of one of the players. *Oh!* said Paul, *I had a drink with him just before I went to the airport* So the father invited him home and said: *Could you do us a favour and ring him up from YOUR mobile? He's really bad at picking up when he knows it's his folks.* And so Paul did and they all had a jolly chat.

One day, on holiday in Spain, two things... First, it was our first holiday away without parents. Three boys, three girls, sharing a flat in Benalmadena. Day three, the boys get bored of just lying on the beach, so we go for a walk to see how far down the coast we can get before the beach ends or we have to get the bus back. About an hour into our walk, we've been clocking all the topless women - we were 18 after all - and we see an attractive young lady get up and walk towards the sea, near where we were. We get closer, and it's the super hot girl from the year above. She's now at Uni, and on a trip with her Uni mates. She sees us and walks over for a chat, boobs fully out. Cares not a jot. That evening, we went out for dinner, and as we were walking in, a lady around 50 grabs my arm and asks "are you MitchellsTruck?" using my full name. Turns out she last saw me at my Christening, 18 years previously. Apparently I looked so much like my Dad, I had to be his son. (And no, she didn't have her boobs out.)
