How do the speakers sound? I've heard people say they're phenomenal, but do just how good? Still good today? Or would a modern $20 set beat them out? Thanks!
For what they are, they sound pretty great! Enough bass to hold their own, and way more dynamic range than they deserve to have. Wish the DAC worked with modern macOS. Ah well.
I have the larger hd display that was made for the g5 power Mac but I use mine with my Power Mac MDD G4 I had the speakers too but they died and I have not replaced them I’d love to get that Harmon kardon sound sticks that paired well but love the step up
I have found a seller on eBay that offers replacement black cone surrounds! I don't intend to replace the white silicone surrounds on the later speakers I obtained to get my speakers working in the first place, but, the option is certainly available to me.
That's what I've done. They're not shown in this picture, but I did take later Apple Pro Speakers drivers, which have white silicone membranes, and swapped them over. (The stator was cracked in one of the original drivers.)
Ever since I saw this setup in a Micro Center circa 2001, I knew I would get one someday. I had to. I could never justify it, but I could never put it out of my head entirely, either.
I have some acrylic restoration to do, but this is a dream come true.

You need a black pro keyboard to go with it

Or a white ︎Mouse instead!

I should have one soon. It took me a good while to find one in nice shape.

I was lucky enough to find a complete set on eBay a few years ago before they got pricey.

Cool, thanks! So you're saying that these don't work with modern macs? Not sure if I interpreted that correctly
juxtaposz@reddit (OP)
That's correct. They're recognised as an audio device, and macOS will give me volume controls, but no audio actually comes out.
_The-White-Elephant_@reddit
That's really interesting. Are there any roundabouts to get them to work?
Taidixiong@reddit
Oh damn, that really IS a dream. Love it!

Nice, I have this too. Unfortunately the paper in the speakers rotted out

Most have I believe, I think you can replace the guts with the rubber from the iMac pro speakers
