1969 IH C1100 4x4 v8 Curious to know if I should do a complete frame change truck has sat for over 15 years everything on the frame is almost busted my question would be how hard or how bad could it hurt to put this cab and bed on a rolling dodge frame I would prefer a 2500

If you must do a frame swap I'd recommend an 80-97 F250/ F350 in the same single cab long bed configuration. I'd highly recommend keeping the international engine and transmission since they are getting pretty rare.

Isn't the wheel base longer on that year of Ford's?

I would try to keep the current frame if you don't want this to take 10 years lol. It takes a lot to do a frame swap on something and it's expensive to get a lot of stuff to line up right and work together. If the frame is entirely rusted through I can see wanting to put it on another frame.

I just don’t know if the frame is gonna hold up to the engine I would like to put in it I’m not to sure if I could get a rebuild kit for the current one that’s in it so that would make me want to put another motor in the truck I definitely know that the axels will have to be upgraded

If it's a 345 they are lazy but gobs of torque, heck it's a truck motor. IH Parts America has rebuild kits.

I’m not to sure it it’s a 345 but if it is the transmission is gonna be swapped and probably will build motor if it’s worth it

Upgrading to 3/4 ton axles isn't the worst thing no matter what because you can get more aftermarket for many axles. I'm assuming you are wanting to keep the truck 4x4? If so I would personally do axles and brace the frame up a little bit but not too much because it should have some slight flex and pop a fresh drivetrain in it. You would have to shove some big horsepower in there to actually break the frame unless it is already rusted though.
Fun-Question2819@reddit (OP)
It doesn’t appear to be rusted threw just a lot of Surface rust I just wasn’t sure about putting a Cummins in it if it would mess the frame up but that makes since to need it up a bit and change the axels out and yes definitely keeping it 4x4 the original motor has 87,997 miles on it but who knows if it has rolled over a couple times but it would be nice to keep the original motor just not sure if I’m gonna find the rebuild kit or even know how much that would cost me

If it is a V8 you could likely get a kit just harder to get parts for them. The front of the frame would definitely need beefed up to handle just the weight of the Cummins engine vs the V8 that it came with. That was actually one of the big things Cummins had to make dodge do was beef up their truck frames because they were too weak to handle the engine. Although really dodge hasn't ever been known for having the best quality stuff like that. If you want to know the health of the engine you already have I would recommend a compression test if it does run or at least seeing if you could make it run and then do a test. You never know if it is actually 87k miles and it might be a very healthy motor. Or it was replaced/rebuilt. I have a 67 Chevy dump truck that has for sure had the motor rebuilt or replaced and the transmission as well. That truck has to have a lot of miles on it but the motor runs like a top and always fires right up even in the cold and had zero sludge when I switched it to a 4 barrel intake.

Sounds like a good Chevy and I’ll see what I can get into it’ll be a almost 4 years till I can actually do something with it just trying to get an idea of what I need to do and what I’d like to do with it thanks for ur communication I’ve learned and took notice to things more thank you
VintageDailyDriver@reddit
Are you sure about that year?
1969 should be the first year of the D series with the square body.
mini4x@reddit
Very weird if I google 69 IH pickup I get a ton listed wit both this body and the newer slab side body.. ??
Fun-Question2819@reddit (OP)
Maybe it’s older it says c1100 on the vin plate

You are going to need to do some digging. At that stage International was starting to put AMC engines into their vehicles, but it is likely the International 345. That looks to be a late run commercial order so it might be a mix of various options. Those things are tough as shit and overbuilt. Unless that frame is rusted out, you can use it for whatever you want.
International and AMC were a lot alike. They used the parts on hand to build that day's production run so that transmission and engine might be a combo of various parts to make what they had that day work.
Fun-Question2819@reddit (OP)
That’s understandable it may be a 68 I’m not totally sure engine has international valve covers I haven’t really got deep into it I noticed rock auto has parts for the truck but if the transmission is trash I’m curious if I could have a plate made to bolt up a Chevy transmission and t case maybe even use Dana axels front and back
crappercreeper@reddit
More than likely. They are a mix of various parts from all brands.
Fun-Question2819@reddit (OP)
How could I find information on the VIN ?
crappercreeper@reddit
Probably on a tag on the firewall, keep in mind they were not the same as today’s standards. You might have to look through old books and forums to put together the info.

Frame swap isn't too bad, if you can weld and fabricate yourself, paying someone else to do it will be very expensive.
FabRata on YouTube swapped a Willys body on to a F250 frame recently, and it's a ton of custom fab work, but thats the kind of work he does.
budget76v2@reddit
As someone building one currently: research wheelbase and do a frame swap onto something not super modern so it's simple. I'm reusing the stock frame while grafting in crown Vic front subframe and redoing the rear leaves. In hindsight I should have just thrown the whole thing on the Vic frame and lengthened or shortened as needed
It won't be worth shit restored compared to something from the big 3.
If you don't do metal fab I suggest selling it and buying a Ford or Chevy where everything is bolt on now. IHs donr have the kind of aftermarket they do
Good luck with the build. I've had a sickness for IHs for a while
Fun-Question2819@reddit (OP)
I’m thinking that the frame is fine nothing major just rust but no holes I had the though just to swap the axels and up grade the drive train and call it good
there_was_no_god@reddit
if you're gonna spen that kind of cash on a frame swap, just do a strip & dip, and full resto. the resale will be much higher on a 4x4. especially if it's all original parts.
WordsOnYouScreen@reddit
Cool truck. I don’t have experience with a frame swap though. Depending on the trucks use/purpose and it’s condition I’d be tempted to just weld it back together if possible and safe!
