Yeah sure. Its a possibility. But if you're not in an actionmovie, nobody really boobytraps their bombs. It makes everything more complicated and it majorly increases the chance of the tinkerer blowing himself up. (and remember they put those in in the thousands and in a hurry). Maybe just check a couple dozen or so. I bet they're doing that right now. If that happens a third time, it's their own fault imo

Take a short domestic flight with your devices. let them go through the X-ray machine. Tell the TSA you recently bought them from the middle east at really good prices to stay in contact with the new friends you have there. Ask for enhanced screaming by ending every sentence with "praise Allah" or "Allah be praised"

Admittedly, recognizing the sheer scale of this. Did Israel neglect to consider that within their targets, one of these tampered with devices could somehow end up on an a flight. Regardless of execution, the whole thing stinks of recklessness and sheer disregard for anything or anyone outside of their target….which is pretty much the playbook of Israel.

My paternal grandfather made exploding bread for the SOE in WW2, basically a type of edible plastic explosive, the ultimate hiding in plain sight, if the resistance were stopped they could break a bit off and eat it. The fuse was hidden in a cigarette. Maybe people should check their food too to make sure it doesn't explode too. Or just maybe just not be a terrorist.

Do you have reason to believe that a state actor will target you for assassination because they believe you are a member of a Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO)? A state actor invested very, very substantial resources in an effort to harm members of Hezbollah during an armed conflict because said members had taken effective countermeasures against being tracked using communications devices. If you’re not in that category, I don’t think you should invest any time in checking your devices for explosives. They’re not looking for you.

It looks like the Lebanese devices used modified batteries. They were probably standard format (i.e. AA or AAA rechargeable) that had a reduced capacity (so they still functioned as batteries) but also some explosive plus control circuitry. They regular batteries were probably swapped out for the potentially deadly ones in Hungary (which they seemed to go via after leaving Taiwan). I think the chances of you having these compromised batteries is pretty small but if you're worried pop along to Walmart or some large chain and buy some new ones for any of your devices that have them.

Do you have access to an x-ray machine? I have no idea if that would work or would be good or bad, but I've been thinking about this for the last two days. At first I was going to say pop it open and if something in there doesn't look like it should be in there, that's bad. But popping it open would probably detonate it anyway.
