If I never hear the word TikTok again, it will be too soon... I'm a tech and I'm on every social media there is - but I refuse to go near it. And anything worth watching on it will eventually find its way to YouTube...
My husband was out one day and complimented a teenager on his shoes...or tried to...went like this:
"Hey man, nice Chucks."
*blank look from teenager* "Oh, you mean my *Converse*? *Said in that tone any parent knows*
"No, your *Chucks*. As in Chuck Taylor. As in the guy those shoes are....oh forget it. You're not worth the effort."
*Husband wanders off mumbling to himself while the teenager looks confused*
That was the exact moment my husband realized he wasn't Cool anymore. 🤣
I wear Chucks almost exclusively at work. One day, one of my 20 something coworkers had on a pair exactly like mine, and I said the same to her. She looked at me like I was crazy. It's not just your husband who isn't cool anymore 😆
My moment was when Bowie died. I was talking about it with a coworker and one of the college kids overheard us and said, "Who's Bowie?" I almost died. 😝
It's not just a generational thing, the world is just full of idiots.
When the movie Memento came out 24 years ago, it was heralded for its creative storytelling. For anyone who hasn't seen it, basically the story is told backwards. A guy loses his memory in a tragic event and to figure out what happened he retraces his steps and leaves notes on his body (because he'll forget everything when he next wakes) until he discovers the truth. The whole point of the movie was the working backwards to the beginning. I saw it in the theater. The lights came on and these people in front of us stood up and started talking about it. Here was the conversation I overheard.
That was pretty good
Yeah but it would have been better if they showed it in order.
Think about it. Average IQ is 100.
That means half the population has an IQ under 100.
So yeah, not surprised in the slightest
*Waiting in line for the men’s room at a concert for one of my favorite local bands, chitchatting with younger guy in front of me*
Younger guy: “So when did you first see this band?”
Me: “Oh, that must have been around 1992 or so.”
Younger guy: “Oh wow! I wasn’t even born then!”
Apparently when Michael Jackson was touring, young concert-goers were confused at how the show was over, and yet he'd barely played any of his biggest hits.
Maybe tiktok is also some kind of time machine.
