People that collect towers or cups at festivals, what is the reason you do so?

Genuinely intrigued to know why spend the time going around collecting huge towers of cups when you’ve spent £hundreds on a festival ticket and you aren’t watching the show properly. At download festival last weekend i saw people with huge bags full of them - is it worth it? I also saw kids collecting them which i understand is a good way to keep your kid entertained if they lose interest in the music.

You get some money back from the bear tent towards more bear. It’s really low, like 5p a cup, but it’s fairly easy to get a few hundred cups sometimes. Especially when people just hand you the cups.

They get paid to collect them for recycling. Not sure how good the money is though.

i believe 10p a cup. which means you need 65 to make up a pint at download

65 is easily done especially on the main stage at a big festival like Download.

You get paid for it and do it during bands you're not really interested in. I'm at Graspop now and people do it between headliners, gets you 35c a cup, or some merch or a lucky dip thing which includes as a prize access to a balcony you can't access any other way

I never did it, but apparently--back when I went to Download, you could get something like 5 p a cup. In crowded and busy areas, you could get 100 fairly easily. So I guess it's ane asy way to get some free booze.

Some people get paid for it, some people get drunk and want to show off by carrying around a massive stack, some people just want to help tidy up all the shit people leave behind.
