Why are so many people still triggered by words like beige, magnolia, and the phrase "avocado suite"?

It's not even necessarily the actual colours that people dislike, since there's thousands of trendy ways to describe beige and magnolia these days, what with all the varieties of creams, stones and coffees that are available.

I guarantee they'll be saying the same about everything being grey and white in 10 years time. It's the beige / magnolia / avocado of the 2010s-2020s. Especially they'll be saying it about painting every antique wooden surface grey or white.

they already are, grey was in fashion 10 years ago but it's pretty outdated now, mostly associated with that awful mrs hinch style decor. green has been the trending colour for the last 4 years or so, especially dark greens for kitchens and woodwork.

Yeah, I don't hate neutrals or greys really but I am definitely tired of them. Feels like so many houses around here have repainted their exterior some shade of grey or cream and black so you can't even escape it when you're outside.

Exactly right. Grey has been 10 years or so.... It's dated now. However you missed out Hague Blue (navy blue) which slotted in between the grey and the current green.....but that's served it's time as well. (Decorator)

It's the same with millennial greys that were popular not so long ago. Rental properties were full of these dull colours and in a lot of places you weren't allowed to paint over with nicer colours

I mean, first of all they're not (in general). With regards to 'avocado suite' - it's an indication that the bathroom is like 40 years old.

I associate magnolia with the colour of renting. As a FTB, I prefer to put the memories of mould speckled magnolia behind me.
