What time is an acceptable time to mow my grass?

It's 8.45am on a Saturday morning. I've been up since 5 with the kid so it feels like an acceptable time to me but I'm guessing it isn't. So what time would be an acceptable time to mow my garden?
miz_moon@reddit
10am at the earliest, some people want/need lie ins
Barn_Brat@reddit
My mate gets woken up every week after his night shift from people cutting the grass. I’d say closer to midday because of people who’ve been on nights
Jamieb284@reddit
I work nights and disagree, if you work nights then you have to accept that you'll get woken up by people outside during the day so just wear earplugs. You get paid more for this reason.
RoohsMama@reddit
Yup. Happened to me. I couldn’t sleep through daytime noises, but hey it’s daytime. Got nice blackout curtains. Worked for me.
everybody-meow-now@reddit
Absolutely right. I work nights. Get surprisingly annoyed at people who tiptoe around me, I trained myself long ago to sleep through the day, no-one should adjust their normal day for my abnormal work pattern.
classy_silhouette@reddit
Whoa!!! I LITERALLY don't get you guys!! Like, wtf?!?!
What happened to being considerate to others!!! What is wrong with you lot?
If I was working night shifts I would absolutely appreciate if people respected that and considered that! It don't kill you to mow the lawn in the afternoon no?? What's so pressing!!
I just don't get your mentality you two! It's just rather selfish in the most bizarre way imaginable! Like, not everybody is YOU! And some people actually DO WANT/NEED to sleep until later hours! So just coz it don't bother YOU TWO, don't make it a universal statement!
People who sleep till later are not expecting other to tiptoe around their schedule they can go and do other things! But when it comes to incredible noise, nobody wants to be woken up like that! Don't get how you guys don't get that! And you are the ONES on the night shift!! Fucking bizarre!!
everybody-meow-now@reddit
Um, okay? A lot to unpack there. Nobody is attacking anybody here... Just a couple of people who walk the same walk chewing the fat about what we think. Maybe I'm wrong, 158 upvotes says at least some people agree with me, but who cares? It's Reddit mate, calm your jets.
classy_silhouette@reddit
Alright mate... got me laughing fr about the chewing fat bit!! That was the coolest bit I've heard today!
Ok. No worries! 😅😅👍🏻
Leroy-Leo@reddit
Yep , when i worked nights an earlier mow was better for me. I was so dog tired I’d sleep through it all. Mid afternoon though and it could be enough to disturb me.
everybody-meow-now@reddit
Yeah, I guess that's the same for me! You could probably knock down the house in the morning and I would sleep through, but if you want to drill holes in the wall at 2pm then we might have a problem lol. Normal workers can't win though with that, so they should stop trying, every night shifter has a different rhythm of what works for them and as quoted above, we're the ones who signed on to it so it's our problem, not theirs.
jumpingjackbeans@reddit
Yep, people don't think through how disruptive shift work is. They wonder why you're still asleep at midday but that's only 4 hours sleep. If I finished a late I'd need to sleep to 11 to get eight hours sleep.
We'd have to be permanently silent to accommodate shift workers.
Mowing the law at 8 on a Saturday is inconsiderate of normal people who just want to sleep in on a weekend
Drath101@reddit
When I'm put on nights I work 10pm-8am, by the time I'm home, settled etc I sleep til about 6:30pm. I can't ask people to be quiet til 6:30pm it's just not fair. Because of this the 8am mow would be best for me because I'm just clocking out at work. Just gotta deal with it. I'd say 10:30-11 onwards is perfectly fair
jumpingjackbeans@reddit
Ah, I remember the glory days of sleeping into the evening! I'm naturally fairly nocturnal so used to do it the way you do and then if I was on a day shift I'd sleep for an hour or two.
Now I've got kids and need to try and normalise my schedule so I wake up about midday after a night and then try to nap later on.
Like you say there's no way I'm expecting the hundred plus people in earshot of my house to predict that and have a copy of my schedule on their fridge.
Not that that makes it any less irritating when I'm exhausted and someone's got an all day DIY project going but that's my problem not theirs 😕
Drath101@reddit
I'm naturally better at day shift, but I pick up the odd week of nights as and when I need a bit of extra money for a one off purchase. They're usually happy to have me for a week, purely because an extra pair of hands makes a huge difference to them. I take the night crew from 3 staff to 4.
But as I say, I switch around schedules alot. Usually I work evenings so I finish about 11pm but get up at 9am ish. But sometimes I pick up the odd 9-5. I can't ask every neighbour to understand my bizarre shift pattern. The only neighbour's I tell are next door because they're in a band and they always try to accommodate me (which is super appreciated but I'd never demand off them).
I can't say I'm never annoyed by noise, it's natural when it wakes you up, but I also chose to work nights when I live 100 metres from a primary school. I'm asking for it
jumpingjackbeans@reddit
100% agreement which is rare for reddit...
I'll only add that if you had kids you could imagine transporting that primary school into your home which isn't the best. But I did ask for it and wouldn't change it
Drath101@reddit
I don't have kids, but I don't think I could pick up night's if I did. I'm quite a light sleeper and can tune out some outside noise (we back onto a flat car park as well, but that's noisy 24/7 and I don't notice anymore). Indoor noise I just can't.
The funny thing is I don't see too many shift workers demanding over the top accommodations. It's usually an office worker annoyed their hangover lie-in got ruined. My old man was in the police for years, and he used to joke about everyone waiting til he was doing night's to mow the lawn or practice their DIY skills, but he'd never once actually expect people to change for it.
Ambitious-Check8584@reddit
I always treat nightshift like working dayshift, currently i go to bed around midday/1pm and get up at 7:30pm for starting at 9pm and finishing around 6/7am, I get 6-7 hours sleep and 5-6 hrs free time when finished, if I had to listen to you then I would need to fuck my life up to accommodate others for absolutely no reason other than to make my life more difficult, normal is a matter of perspective and around 1/3 of people in employment work nights but according to you they are not normal people and should plan their life around everyone else, seems like the only inconsiderate ones are those not giving a single fuck to how millions of others go about their lives.
jumpingjackbeans@reddit
Chill dude,, I think you've misunderstood, I work nights myself 🤣
We completely agree with each other, my point was you can't really guess what time making noise is best for a shift worker.
For example, I tend to go to bed when I get in around 8, get up around midday and then have a nap before work, it's whatever works best. Running a lawnmower at 8 would fuck me up but running it at midday would presumably wreck your sleep Not expecting everyone in my neighbourhood to understand that.
everybody-meow-now@reddit
Bingo! You got it.
Wolfeh297@reddit
Yeah I used to work nights at tescos when I was 18 and I never expected the world to stop on my part. I just bought blackout blinds and some ear plugs with the extra money I was making.
Parker4815@reddit
You don't get paid more to be woken up during your sleep in the day. You get paid more because it's an unsocial hour and it means you don't get to work by the regular clocks and schedules the rest of the world work.
Also, depending on where you work, nights will pay pocket change more.
RealKoolKitty@reddit
I worked a security job once where the night shift got paid LESS! (Shopping centre, their logic was that it was an easier job with there was less work to do when the centre was closed)
ToothessGibbon@reddit
That’s a fair point.
Jamieb284@reddit
You get extra pay for all of what working nights incurs. The difference of pay for shift work can be pretty significant.
Balkrish@reddit
Which earplugs would you recommend?
trbd003@reddit
Side sleepers tend to not be able to wear ear plugs when asleep because sleeping with weight on the earplug is painful.
spacehoppergonepop@reddit
Then they are using the wrong plugs. Rubber ones with a’ tail’ are hopeless on one side. Foam ones fully inserted are fine
trbd003@reddit
Honestly I'm a frequent night worker who sleeps on my side and I have tried all the earplugs and it's nothing but discomfort and waking up in the night. I also risk missing my alarm.
I shouldn't have to wear earplugs at home. Home is somewhere we go to relax and be comfortable.
Also frankly electric motors have come on a long way in the last few years. They just don't need to be disruptively loud anymore. In industry, people are running faster motors with heavier loads virtually silently, and there's no reason these shouldn't have made it onto the consumer market.
UndeadCaus@reddit
Maybe all that night shift money you can offer to replace your neighbours mowers with electrics?
Win win win
You The environment Your neighbours new gear
trbd003@reddit
I just used "all that money" to get a property where it isn't a problem. I'm higher up and have secondary glazing in the bedroom.
UndeadCaus@reddit
So you don't have ear plug discomfort anymore because you bought a noise proof property instead of trying a different style of plugs
Massive flex my guy/girl
trbd003@reddit
Correct
It works for me but it doesn't work for everyone so I still think people who mow could be more considerate.
And people with petrol mowers in 2023 can seriously get in the sea.
Fenrir-The-Wolf@reddit
I upgraded from a decrepit old flymo to a petrol mower recently and you'll pry it from my cold dead hands
I actually said 'God bless the internal combustion engine' after using it the first time. What took me 45-60mins now takes 15.
I did want a battery one but budget considerations, y'know.
trbd003@reddit
What is it that makes it so much quicker?
Fenrir-The-Wolf@reddit
No wire management. I can go up-down the garden now rather than going down 4 paces, back 4, over, down 4, so on, so forth.
Petrol mower also has much larger capacity (and chops the grass up much finer, not quite mulching but not far off). With the flymo I'd have to empty the damn thing like 4-6 times (sometimes more if it was first cut etc), now I just empty it once when I'm done.
A battery one would probably have all the same advantages and I had been eyeing them up but then a friend had to move and was selling their petrol one on the cheap.
trbd003@reddit
For cable management, a spring loaded retractable cable reeler installed on the wall is the solution to that. Then you can go wherever you like with your electric mower and the cable follows you with no risk of getting caught.
As for the capacity and how fine it cuts the grass... Tbh this is a feature of the mower itself not the fuel it runs on.
Basically you could get all the benefits with an electric and it would be a lot quieter. But tbh if you've replaced your 1 hour electric mow with a 15 minute slightly noisier mow, they probably cancel out.
UndeadCaus@reddit
Haha
I think it's sweet you've asked so many people for a day at the beach
Ramblingmanc@reddit
I sleep on my side and use wax earplugs; it’s fine. They come as little balls and you heat them up with your hands, then when you insert them they form into the shape of your ear.
I-Love-Bewbs@reddit
There is a bit of a line;
One bloke on our block, decided 8am using a bench saw was acceptable for his neighbours; annoying for everyone,9 but we felt especially sorry for one of whom was on nights… as an ER nurse… during lockdown. Earplugs or not you’re not drowning the squealing of one of those out.
Mind you it came to an end when said neighbour needed to go to ER after an accident with the band saw.
Karma, eh?
Jamieb284@reddit
10am is always the rule. I mentioned it in my first reply, anything before is just rude and inconsiderate.
chiefmilkshake@reddit
I don't think ear plugs can block out a sudden loud lawn mower.
Jamieb284@reddit
Mine keep me asleep until my alarm so I am inclined to disagree.
chiefmilkshake@reddit
Congrats? I guess if it works for you it surely must work for everyone else... Oh wait.
chiefmilkshake@reddit
Congrats? I guess if it works for you it surely must work for everyone else... Oh wait.
ForrestGrump87@reddit

i have applied for a job that is shifts , so 2 nights of 8
i would never expect people to accommodate me outside of friends and family
earplugs & eye masks invented for these purposes
Barn_Brat@reddit
But it’s still frustrating and if you’re trying to be considerate of a time to cut your grass then thinking about people on nights is fair
Jamieb284@reddit
But people work shifts of all hours, some people finish at 10am, some finish at 3am, you can't be considerate to everyone so may as well just try and please the majority who don't get paid extra to work unsociable hours and stick to the 10am rule.
cumbrianmanc@reddit
Company’s making people work until 10am are out of order and need to learn to look after their staff….I’ve worked nights for years for a few different companies and have been provided with some good information over the years about good sleep patterns….night shifts should really be done by 7am at the latest. As for neighbours making a noise, you’d like to think if they know you work nights they’d keep the mornings quiet.
750volts@reddit
People can help how much and when they mow lawns more than whether they do a night shift. Be mindful of these people.
bavasava@reddit
I work nights and sleep with a sound machine because I’m not dumb enough to think the world is gonna be quite for me lol.
Your mate needs to grow tf up.
More_Importance8520@reddit
Maybe they shouldn't work nights?
prof_hobart@reddit
Nightshift tends to be until around 6 am, so the equivalent of a dayshift's 6pm finish.
If you then have your "evening" after your shift has finished (which is what I often used to do when I was doing them), midday would be the equivalent of a midnight start for a normal shift worker.
There's no good time that's going to suit everyone.
ProfCupcake@reddit
Eah, I'd say that's part of the deal you take when you agree to work nights.
Total-Art-4634@reddit
I don't get any say in when I get the chance to sleep. I wish these people would cover those awful machine sounds with music though.
Barn_Brat@reddit
Still nice to think about people who have been working nights if you can work around it, especially if you know your neighbour works nights etc
Loud_Fisherman_5878@reddit
If you know a specific person works nights then fair enough, maybe consider them although quite a few people here saying they work nights and they wouldnt want people doing that for them. But you can hardly say ‘wait until after 11 in case there’s someone who works nights’. What about someone who works from 6pm - 6am, shouldn’t you wait until after 2pm? Or the person that works until midday and then needs to go back to sleep? Or the parent who is up all night and tries to get an hour’s sleep in the middle of the afternoon? You cant consider everyone and as a parent who has often needed to rest at 2pm, I don’t get angry when normal people are getting on with their weekends.
No-Jicama-6523@reddit
If you follow this logic you can’t ever do anything, there will always be someone asleep for their shift pattern.
Ambitious-Check8584@reddit
I work nights and I treat it like I'm on days so I don't go to sleep until around midday/1pm, so 7am-midday is the only times I can do anything, if that means chilling to music at 7am after work or cutting the grass or washing the car then that's exactly what I do.
Othersideofthemirror@reddit
I only get 2 days a week to do chores. Im not going to waste 50% of that time. Night shift people have always known and accepted daytimes create noise.
Barn_Brat@reddit
I get that but if you can adjust the time you do louder activities, more so if neighbours work night shifts, then I think it’s great if you can. I know it’s not always the case and people who work nights may cause disturbances to people who do days (I’m looking at you truckers who feel the need to get into road wars outside my window) and it is what it is. Just nice to think about others too
Othersideofthemirror@reddit
and why cant they think about me?
Im doing 70 hour weeks and my toddler is waking me at 6am. If i can get my chores done quickly I can then actually sit and relax from about mid-afternoon. If i dont im busy till the lad is bed and my free time is a few hours in the evening.
whatagloriousview@reddit
Your neighbours do 70-hour weeks, and less time on shrooms. They wake later. Lack of care on either side makes them not sorry for waking your child in the evening. The cycle continues.
Othersideofthemirror@reddit
This thread is less like to be filled with middle aged types doing 70 hours and more likely filled with teenagers up all night having fun because this is reddit and not boomerbook or the daily mail comments. Im an outlier.
I know my neighbours are up and about at a reasonable hour too. If you want to sleep in, put in earplugs. The odds are a lawnmower is not going to wake anyone from their stupor of evening fun anyway.
Useful_Engineer_6122@reddit
If I knew a nearby neighbour was on nights I’d try and take that into account. I’m not going to wait till 4pm on the off chance someone on the street is on nights though.
Thauma@reddit
I'd rather it was done before midday because I'm fully asleep after a night shift by then
Wake me up at 10am, I can still get a fullish 7 hours in. Wake me up at 12 and you've pulled me out of a deep sleep to only give me another 5 hours to try to get quality zzzs in.
uchman365@reddit
I used to get home around 8, draw the blackout blinds, earplugs in, then try and sleep till about 3pm. There's never a good time, unless you want people to suspend all activities for you.
DaveBeBad@reddit
I fell asleep driving home from a night shift after a several days of the neighbours cutting their grass throughout the day. If anyone nearby works nights, either before 10 or after 4 would be much better for them.
Barn_Brat@reddit
After 4 would be best then. My mate gets back between 2 and 6 so before 10 would still disturb him
Starlit-Tortoise@reddit
All these people saying 9am are insane. Go do something else! It’s doesn’t matter when you mow the lawn. You’re effectively saying no normal person is asleep at 9am on a Saturday. Which is completely ridiculous. 9am is the time you have to be in work for! A lot of people get up after 8am on a weekday.
Indominus-Invictus@reddit
honestly really hate these people. They don't give AF about anyone else tbh.
CharityLottie339290@reddit
I do so I wait till its 10am or 9.30am to mow the lawn
TipsyMagpie@reddit
I think they do it on purpose because they’ve been up since 5am and misery loves company.
Basic_Specialist6194@reddit
So if ya naigboors shout argue till 4am now they've tired them selves out and gon to sleep ive been awake all night with the noise of them now wide awake do i have to wait till i get the ok of them or put up with there noise or can i cut my grass at 7am cos ime wide awake ime disabled so try to cut it wen possible but after 12 hours of blasting music its hard to sleep
Adorable-Wanger132@reddit
Why would you assume being up since 5am is miserable? It's the best time of the day 😁 admittedly I would hold off on making noise until 9am though, 10am on a Sunday....
Music-as-a-Weapon@reddit
I can't speak for anyone else but for me it wouldn't be an assumption - when I'm up at 5am, I'm thoroughly, unambiguously miserable.
Radiant-Barracuda-21@reddit

Ollex999@reddit
In my case ( I do suffer spinal injuries and subsequent pain amongst other conditions that keep you awake medically ) it’s 3/4am until 11/12am and I hate it because in my own head I call myself lazy even though there’s not a lot I can do about it most of the time. I would say fortunately, I don’t have to get up for work but I would rather get up at 6am for work everyday , than suffer this existence at the hands of pain !
whiskeysmoker13@reddit
This is me. I have been diagnosed with insomnia now...I had to attend a sleep clinic. Currently trialing an increased dose of Gabepentin as I'm already on those.
Have a word with your GP...some pain meds are used for insomnia so an increased dose at night time may help if possible.
Ollex999@reddit
It’s not so much insomnia. I am really tired and can drop off to sleep but it’s either pain and spasms that wake me or more often , because of the nerve damage inside, my bladder gets compressed with the swelling and/or the signals to the brain go haywire with regards to my bladder.
On Tuesday night between 0129 and 0253 I had to get up and go to the bathroom, 6 times!! In such a short period. Plus, it’s even worse the last couple of days because we are experiencing a heat wave and with our temp in the 30* bracket and humidity too , I need to drink more fluid which exacerbates my problem and the minute it comes into my mind that I need the loo, my water comes, straight away with only 3-4 seconds delay.
I’m told that because it’s nerve damage that there’s not a lot can be done. I even get woken up by the need to pee after taking sleep meds.
I’ve been an impatient at the Walton neurological hospital and sleep was dealt with on my 4 week residential and I’m not getting rested because I’m not getting into the much needed REM stage in order to refresh and recuperate.
whiskeysmoker13@reddit
I genuinely feel your pain. I had two prolapsed discs that caused the same intense pain. Fortunately corrective surgery and a couple of years physio sorted them out, so just general stiffness and aches and pains now. My nerve damage (arm) is still there, but as its numbness/weakness its just the old squeeze ball for me, I can't take anti inflammatory meds because of my lung issues.
I have what they're calling 'complex medical issues' basically I have long covid, which aggravates my POTS. I have two frozen shoulders atm, 1 frozen, and the other 'defrosting' due to major lung surgery, intercostal neuralgia, and costochondritis. Long covid is buggering up my other internal organs so everything is in a vicious circle of inflammatory/physical/neurological pain. Now, (Thursday) found out my BP is dangerously high, whilst bedbound! So more prodding and poking.
I'm at Queens Square for my neurological issues, and Papworth for the chest. It's a mission as I live in Suffolk...and I hear you about the REM sleep...and the bathroom visits.
I'm sorry to hear you're going through sh1t atm...you sound quite young too? I'm getting on now, so I've had a family/career etc...but I too wish I was back at work.
Hopefully we'll both at the very least improve enough to live life comfortably...I wish you well. :)
Ollex999@reddit
Thank you for your kindness
Yes I’m relatively young at just 53 and have been suffering for the last 20 years when I had a bad accident at work and fell 20ft onto concrete floor and was temporarily paralysed for 18m but as I age, it’s getting worse and I’m still having surgeries.
I’m sorry to hear about your struggles too and I sincerely hope that you can get some comfort from life and live as opposed to exist .
I have 16 year old twins too
whiskeysmoker13@reddit
You're very welcome!
We are actually the same age lol. My children are all adults tho, my eldest Grandchild is 15. I was married at 19 so started young. Ha...I dunno why, but you sounded younger. I think it's because I see Reddit as a pool of the younger gens :) it's cr@p because as you rightly say we are relatively still young, in fact isn't 50 now meant to be the new 40! Anyhoo I digress...
I'm lucky I have a great support system, and a good medical team. I'm now just waiting for the Long Covid clinic for an appt. Although I now have the BP issue as well...weirdly I've generally suffered low BP so likely covid related we think. Just another barrier to climb over I guess.
I have maintained my sense of humour albeit a bit dark sometimes, and I remain optimistic...I have had a few visits from the black dog but he's firmly in his kennel now, and I have my real furry black dog keeping me entertained...and washed! Lol...

Or complain about how you’re lazy and missing out on the day but they’re tucked up in bed at 8pm.
PheonixKernow@reddit
I sleep 8.30pm till 8am on 'school nights'.
I work 4 days a week, I've got kids and my husband works away Monday to Friday.
I don't work Fridays. That's housework day so we can enjoy our weekend with daddy when he's home.
I'm utterly exhausted all the time, but I work term time only so roll on August when I can have a bit of a social life!
frankchester@reddit
Almost 12hrs sleep and you’re still exhausted, I’m guessing you have some sort of chronic health issue? If not, I’d get that level of fatigue checked out. Even as someone who loves sleep, 9hrs for me is fine. 11.5hrs is quite a lot.
PheonixKernow@reddit
I think you're right, but I don't have the energy to schedule an appointment. I wake up, get ready in half an hour, school drop off 8.45 getting to work for 9, back for the kids at 4, cooking dinner, cleaning up, then I just shower, bed at 8, asleep by 8.30, 9 at the latest and start again tomorrow.
My husband contract ends soon, he'll be back home working, I'm sure it'll be easier then when I'm not doing it all myself.
I live for school holidays, I'm so lucky to work term time only, I get a decent break every 6 weeks.
Thank you for your comment though :)
CarystusPS4@reddit
A one off appointment could be what solves the tiredness and maybe even find a solution to it giving you more time in the long run to do more with more energy. Underlying health issues unchecked can get worse fast, I'm sure your kids would appreciate you being around longer. Do yourself and your kids a favour and book that appointment. Excuses don't fix things. Put more value on your life.

sparkyplug28@reddit
Plenty of mine do! That’s my point
frankchester@reddit
I still don’t understand your comment really. I’ve had so many people act holier than thou because they’re up at the crack of dawn, and somehow think that gives them more time in the day that I’m somehow “wasting”, but at the same time we’re up the same number of hours anyway… that’s the problem. Rarely here self righteousness from night owls.
sparkyplug28@reddit
I’m not sure what you want me to say I was simply expressing that for me I have no issue with being in bed at 22:00-23:00 because most of my hobbies involve being outside so I don’t see a issue with being in bed early I only miss out on watching tv! Just my opinion not sure where you got self-righteousness out of that but ok
frankchester@reddit
I wasn’t suggesting you were self righteous, but although you state in your comment that you were just suggesting what “you” like to do, your original comment was actually asking what people had to do after 8pm… so it seems like you did care a little more what other people do. Else why would you comment a query like that?

sparkyplug28@reddit
Wow really I’m an electrician and I have never heard of it!
My point was that a lot of interesting stuff happens outside
matrixislife@reddit
And my point was that civilisation happened and that released us from the "wake when it's light, sleep when it's dark" routine.
I'd hope you'd have heard of it whatever your occupation is.
sparkyplug28@reddit
What is with the aggression? My comment was a fairly throw away remark but it really seems to of upset you! I just like being outside the outside is nicer in daylight is that not ok?!
matrixislife@reddit
Jesus don't say that!
You'll have that bot whinging about have and of and apostrophes all over the place.
I'm not the least bit upset or annoyed, mine was just a sarcy comment.
It's gone a bit cloudy, hope it clears up for you later on.
Choccybizzle@reddit
What you talking about? Nobody calls people lazy in this scenario if they know you’ve been working until 6am
heeywewantsomenewday@reddit
I mean I have lived it.
ejmcdonald2092@reddit
The amount of times my mother in law has been kicked out of my house because she has come round at 2pm and I’m in bed even though I got in at 1pm after spending 10 days at sea trying to say things like ‘you need to stop sleeping in so late it’s not good for you’ some people baffle me.
bambrini16@reddit
Yes, they absolutely do. People can be surprisingly self-centred and short-sighted. They know you have a different schedule but still somehow forget or can’t let go of their own perception of staying in bed past noon or whatever is lazy
Advanced_Fee_8722@reddit
same people who think finishing work at 3 is easier despite the fact you started at 7am
bambrini16@reddit
Exactly right
Advanced_Fee_8722@reddit
I used to work 2 busses away but one of my busses was every hour and the bus from stop a direct to work would make me 15 mins early/late i worked for 2 hours in total but the whole work day including commute was 6 and a half hours
That said if I didn't need the extra money i'd happly go back to a 4 and a half hour commute time (1 hour each way on busses the rest waiting about or waiting to start work)
As it is now i wake up go streight to work and start so theres no transition from home to work life and it's draining tbh
SeekingBeskar@reddit
These people definitely exist. My partner works US hours and I set my own hours so I choose to work a similar pattern to him as that makes sense for our relationship.
We’ve still had relatives and even close friends refer to us as “lazy” or hint at that for us getting up later in the morning than they do.
Some people know you’re on a weird schedule but still can’t drop the notion of what they believe to be “lazy”.
AggravatingArtist815@reddit
This is my life. Disciplinary for being 10 mins late to work every week. Even though I'm there for at least half hour a day doing free overtime.
LondonCollector@reddit
To be fair if you were better and quicker at your job you would have finished a lot earlier.
ameilih@reddit
ah yeah because everyone has a job where they can just get up and leave in the middle of a shift
Eifla99@reddit
Similarly, why can’t people do what they need to do when they want to? Why do they have to change their life and delay things they want to do because you don’t want to get up before 9?
seanosaurusrex4@reddit
Its just being considerate. I am a night owl. Should i cut my grass at 11pm - midnight? No, that would disturb neighbours trying to sleep.
Eifla99@reddit
Because that’s an abnormal time to be awake. The world runs between 8-5 for a reason. Human’s aren’t naturally nocturnal and the vast majority of the population aren’t up
seanosaurusrex4@reddit
I would say its a significant portion of the population. Just because it doesnt fit your ideals, doesnt mean its abnormal.
But question sorted then. You can mow your grass Monday to Friday 8-5.
Eifla99@reddit
No you can’t because we’re at work.
I didn’t say it’s abnormal because it doesn’t fit my ideals. I said it’s abnormal because it is. Most of the population work during the day.
RoxSteady247@reddit
We dont care what you do, but we have things to do lie aboitnif you want im getting to chorin

How is that any different than all the people saying I'm not up yet so everyone else has to put their life on hold. Both so entitled.
darS234@reddit
I’d hate to be your neighbour. Even though I’m up with the kids I wouldn’t dream of making noise that early.
Adorable-Wanger132@reddit
"That early" at 9am???
darS234@reddit
Yes…what don’t you understand about some people enjoying a lie about n at a weekend?
Adorable-Wanger132@reddit
What don't you understand about people living a different schedule to you? I'm up early and will happily make noise "early"(9am) but on the other hand I've never / would never complain about someone on a different schedule affecting me, that's just life
darS234@reddit
I understand…I’m just not a selfish prick that doesn’t think/care about the people around me.
Adorable-Wanger132@reddit
Neither am I, at least we can agree on something :)
darS234@reddit
Ok…weird that you think I’m agreeing with you…
Othersideofthemirror@reddit
Yeah lots of people in this thread giving away the fact they dont have kids or have chores and household jobs to do all morning.
Yeah, i was a teenager, and yeah i was a bachelor for a long time too. I know why I was up all night, and know why i was sleeping in, because i was having fun. I dont see why my fun should stop people doing what they have to do on Saturday mornings because i want to sleep in.
DarkLordTofer@reddit
There's plenty of stuff around the house they can do that doesn't involve making noise.
Senior-Sentence-8350@reddit
But they don’t have to do the mowing in the morning.
When I finish a night shift at 07.00, knowing I’m back to work at 19.00 and have stuff to do during the day, getting to ‘sleep in’ in the morning is not about fun. There are plenty of reasons people would sleep in on a weekend outside of your personal experiences of drunk or adolescent, and it is selfish and inconsiderate to unnecessarily cause a lot of noise in the morning when you’re fully aware of that.

Radiant-Driver493@reddit
Everyone I know at work who is one of those 5am wake up types seem to have a competition with each other for the earliest bedtime too. I constantly hear stuff along the lines of "oh yeah went to bed at 9 last night" and "oh mate I was fast asleep at 8:30"
I just think yeah congratulations you have the sleep routine of a 4 year old.
JimmyJonJackson420@reddit
Fuck getting in at 6 and being in bed by 9
Radiant-Driver493@reddit
Exactly. I also guarantee that I am more productive in the evenings while they are in bed than they are in the morning while I'm in bed.
redditisabitcrapnow@reddit
Can affirm that this is false. I’m not saying you at 22:30 on the couch after your dinner is less productive than me getting a head start at the office at 07:45 after a gym session, but it certainly isn’t more productive.
Radiant-Driver493@reddit
Bro you have about 10 comments just today in a beauty subreddit, each one a wall of text about grooming your fucking pubes. You're probably one of those wetbags that looks at himself in the mirror for an hour and calls it a workout before wanking over yourself 3 times just before work. I bet you subscribe to at least 4 onlyfans accounts and have no less than 3 dating apps on your phone.
redditisabitcrapnow@reddit
😂😂😂 you got me. I’m obsessed with my perfectly smooth vagina. 04:45 - I’m just going to have my tea in bed before I go wank over myself at the gym. JimmyJonJackson420@reddit
It’s hard to answer because there’s not a single universe that I would ever work those kind of hours

It's such a bizarre conversation to overhear. I've not gone to bed before midnight in over 20 years, but if I so much as mention still being awake that late they look at me as if I'm insane. They're the crazy ones, the night is the best time of the day!
lock_the_backdoor@reddit
Early morning is absolutely amazing. I wake up at 4.30...
sderponme@reddit
Honestly I love not having anyone around in the morning. I'm usually not someone who would ever voluntarily wake up at 430am, but seriously that's the best time I can get away from all of my responsibilities. Last thing I would want to do is wake someone up. 10am or later is perfectly acceptable for me, I've been one of the people on the other end.
All said tho, if you live in a hot area in summer time, you do have to mow early to prevent potential fires.
RipleyPatrick@reddit
Me too!!! I start work really early in the mornings coz I’m a baker but regardless I wake up 2 hours beforehand to chill in the silence while the rest of the world is asleep the 2:00am vibes just hit different

It's legal to start mowing at 10pm too, as per your comment. I wouldn't consider that to be considerate of reasonable either.
BlueBloodMurder@reddit
Actually that's total fucking bollocks. The reasonable limit is the law.
G7umpy_Fac3@reddit
I don't think so. Most Brits would be upset with you for being unreasonable if you drilled your wall at 10:55 pm.
BlueBloodMurder@reddit
The law is based on what an average person would find reasonable. That's how it works.

I had a neighbour decide 8am was the perfect time to start their DIY project, an hour of ear-splitting noise later they decided they'd done enough & stopped.
The selfishness is off the fucking chart with this kind of thing, it's like they're annoyed they didn't have a lie in so feel the need to wake up everyone else.
classy_silhouette@reddit
Yeeesss this!!!! Yeeesss I'm dying over here 🤣🤣🤣 rotf!! I've experienced this shit WAAAYYY too many times!! Liek, they are soooo fucking miserable themselves they GOT to, HAVE TO, make everybody up and awake to witness how miserable they are, and make you too!!!

Ambitious-Check8584@reddit
Hating people for doing absolutely nothing wrong says more about you than them.
KnotiaPickles@reddit
This is doing something extremely rude and wrong though. It’s justified
bavasava@reddit
Dude, mowing your lawn is extremely rude? Y’all play too much across the pond lol.
KnotiaPickles@reddit
Yes, not caring about the peace and wellbeing of your neighbors is extremely rude.
I feel bad for your neighbors.
bavasava@reddit
What if I have things to do for the rest of the day? Did they not care about my peace and well-being? Why should I have to go out of my way to make sure they’re OK but I don’t get the same from them?
Y’all trying to hard to be mad over nothing. Get off your high horse.
JagoHazzard@reddit
So you’re not in the UK, responding to a question on AskUK, getting angry because people are giving answers relevant to the UK? Sounds like you’re already suffering from a bit of heatstroke, old boy.
KnotiaPickles@reddit
You’re the mad one lol. Sounds like you’re realizing you’ve been a shitty neighbor and that’s why you’re being insanely defensive
bavasava@reddit
I love when someone gives a retort and your only response is to say they’re getting defensive lol. Nice gas lighting dude.
I’m not acting mad or crazy. I’m giving you my opinion on the matter and instead of acknowledging those points you’re deflecting because you have nothing of note to say.
KnotiaPickles@reddit
I hope you take a deeep breath, realize you’re ok, and get on with your day in a normal frame of mind. Nothing going on here is worth you being this upset and angry.
It’s going to be ok.
bavasava@reddit
Still just gas lighting and deflecting…
KnotiaPickles@reddit
I don’t think those mean what you think they mean 😂😂😂
bavasava@reddit
You’re still doing it.
frankleystein@reddit
Exactly!
Imagine holding the position that everyone should put off any plans they have for the day and wait until it starts getting really hot before they do their garden just in case you want a lie in and then claiming that anyone who doesn't adhere to this rule you've just invented doesn't give AF about anyone else.
I love an occasional lie in as much as the next guy, and I don't think I've ever had a problem with this. But the way people are getting so fired up, you would think its impossible to sleep past 8 in this country without being woken up by an army of selfish lawn mowers.
It's quite simple really, if you want to sleep during business hours, take steps to make sure you can sleep and don't expect anybody else to. It's called personal responsibility.
BetaRayPhil616@reddit
What, as opposed to the people who were up all night on the PS5 or out on the piss and are moaning that other people like to get up and be productive on a Saturday morning?
FrenzalStark@reddit
If you worried about annoying people you’d never get it done.
Internetolocutor@reddit
Okay so do it at 4am then? Bad logic. Clearly you can minimise the number of people you annoying
FrenzalStark@reddit
Exactly. The majority of people outside of Reddit wouldn’t care about 9am.
The_Blip@reddit
Most normal people want to get on with the day. The idea you should just sit around your house for hours waiting for people to get up is ridiculous.
People want to get on with the day and head out to do stuff. Not scroll through reddit waiting till most of the morning is gone to do their chores and then go into town or to the leisure centre.
Self_Sabatour@reddit
I'm still salty all the morning people got together and decided the work day starts at 7am while I was still in bed.
BingpotStudio@reddit
Incredibly selfish to mow the law in the morning. Surely there is something else they can do in the mean time.
If my neighbour started doing that I would take up the trumpet.
750volts@reddit
Yeah, when my early bird neighbour would mow their lawn at 8 in the morning, I'd time when I mow for when they settle down for their evening TV time.
So glad I've moved away from such deeply tediously rude, suburban people. Where lawns and bullshirlt gadgets matter more than basic consideration.
Still-Butterscotch33@reddit
Isn't it tediously rude to time it for their TV time? So many on this thread need to get a life.
Choccybizzle@reddit
Heaven forbid a backbone is located and people actually talk face to face to explain their issues!
Still-Butterscotch33@reddit
Much easier to engage in a passive agressive one-sided war and gloat about it on the Internet.
classy_silhouette@reddit
Lol are you being sarcastic? Or you actually saying it seriously? In a playful jokey way??
Still-Butterscotch33@reddit
No, 100% serious.
Choccybizzle@reddit
‘Hahaha I showed them’ meanwhile they just turn up the volume and put subtitles on
Comfortable-Dog-2540@reddit
I say this with the greatest respect, You clearly haven't encountered an argumentative neighbour in the wild, even when politely spoken to about these sort of issues the argumentative neighbour will revert to its natural instincts and make what can only be described as guttural unintelligible council estate noises sprinkled with profanities with wild gesticulating and nothing much ever gets resolved as after such encounters.
Gluecagone@reddit
The problem is some people don't even try to communicate. They just resort to toddler like behaviour and burn any possible bridges of communication before even trying.
Ollex999@reddit
Council estate noises ?
That says more about you than them.
A persons place of birth and subsequent abode doesn’t determine their often good manners, high moral standards and values.
FindorKotor93@reddit
There are also a huge number of narcissists who intentionally act like this to provoke face to face conflict to pretend they don't understand the problem and you're the crazy one. Everyone should try honest communication once, but once you know you're dealing with a broken thing, all's fair.
SwirlingAbsurdity@reddit
I think that’s the point they were making, to show to their neighbour how rude it was.
More_Importance8520@reddit
Except their neighbour probably gave no thought to them at all - and was just going about their day.
eelam_garek@reddit
They probably didn't care.
The_Blip@reddit
Yeah, just turn the tv up and all is well.
Ambitious-Check8584@reddit
So many in this thread are self absorbed, selfish brain dead clowns that think everyone should cater to them, there is absolutely nothing wrong with cutting grass at 8am, also alot of them seem to think those of us who work nights shouldn't have a life.
Koroku_Gaming@reddit
I will probably get downvoted but I agree... People can mow their lawns anytime they want imo. At 9am, the majority of people have been up for at least a couple of hours, it's a perfectly acceptable time to start doing yardwork, and also allows the neighbours to have lunchtime/afternoon BBQs without the sound of mowers blaring.
And what about career mowers/gardeners? These people are saying they can't start their shifts until almost midday?
We should all be more respectful and tolerant of each other.
Earplugs exist btw people, put those things in before sleep and you're not going to hear the mower next door.
Ambitious-Check8584@reddit
7am-midday is the only time I can do anything as I go to bed at midday/1pm for 9pm start, If I had to listen to those crying in the sub then I would need to put that free time before starting work, which would just make everything unnecessary harder for me, I fall asleep watching TV so the TV drowns out most noise, I could be a dick and go request my neighbours change their lives to accommodate me but I'm not that guy.
LooselyBasedOnGod@reddit
Indeed, pot calling the kettle black lol
BowlerBig8423@reddit
Hold on, you're calling them 'tediously rude', when they're simply mowing their lawn at 8am, and yet you're the one deliberately mowing during their evening TV time, to disturb them on purpose? That sounds deranged, and you're 100% the one that qualifies as 'tediously rude', even worse really, that's psychotic behavior.
750volts@reddit
Woah hang on there, I think you're getting rather carried away. Like I say moved away, get on well with the neighbours now. I think you maybe over thinking if you're accusing a random stranger of psychosis based on lawn mowing tendencies. Wow.
BowlerBig8423@reddit
It's not 'lawn mowing tendencies', it's the fact you admitted to deliberately mowing your lawn in the evening, when they'd be watching TV, so as to purposely disturb them.
That is psychotic, because it suggests you think your neighbors mowing their lawn at 8am, was done on purpose to annoy you, yet it seems a perfectly reasonable and normal thing to do. Although I can understand it disturbing your sleep, the normal thing to do, would be to tell them, and ask if they could mow later in the future, not start plotting against them. That's unhinged. I'm sorry if the truth offends you, but I'm only replying to what you admitted to doing yourself.
750volts@reddit
I had spoken to my neighbours about this a few months prior and that only excassivated issues. I love how you go making assumptions around this that fit your own implicit bias. 8am is an inconsiderate time on a weekend to be doing anything noisy. More recently I'm an early riser, I still hold off on anything noisy until around midday for the benefit of my current neighbours.
I think you maybe projecting, to go chucking 'psychotic' around on what are lifes minutiae.
BowlerBig8423@reddit
How is it bias? This is exactly why I think it's psychotic, because you seem to think that deliberately planning and plotting to mow your law in the evening, in schedule with your neighbors TV watching, so as to purposely disturb them, is equal to and the same as your neighbors mowing their lawn at 8AM. It just isn't, and it's odd behavior.
If you think 8AM is an inconsiderate time, then fair enough, you're entitled to that opinion and I won't argue that point, but the two things are not equal, that's the point I'm trying to make. One is in the realms of normality, and the other is in the realm of the deranged.
Anyway, I'm not going to reply to you anymore, because you obviously think what you did was normal and perfectly reasonable somehow, I'm just pointing out that it isn't.
CriticalCentimeter@reddit
seems like quite a selfish view. Why should other people have to delay their day just because you cant get out of bed at a decent time in the morning? Anything from 8am is fair game and quite reasonable.
ieatpillowtags@reddit
Your view of “decent” is entirely subjective, but keep on with your self centered point of view.
CriticalCentimeter@reddit
I think the people on here expecting others to delay their day beyond 8am are self-centered. 8am is a very reasonable time, and if you aren't getting enough sleep, may I advise going to bed earlier instead of whinging that people shouldnt cut their grass until a time that suits you and not them.
If you want to waste your day in bed, thats 100% your choice, but expecting the entire world to rotate around your need to lounge about in bed is entitled to the extreme.
rakidi@reddit
What makes waking up at a certain time decent? Please enlighten us.
Pixielo@reddit

Namiweso@reddit
Well 9/10/11/12 is still going to be the same issue?
Earplugs are your friend
Gluecagone@reddit
Your ex-neighbour probably didn't care. The sound of somebody mowing a lawn a) is quite soothing to me and b) can barely be heard and is easily ignored if I'm focused on watching something interesting on TV.
Cantonas-Collar@reddit
Is this intentionally ironic?
w1YY@reddit
Thse are also the same people who would moan if you mowed the lawn at 11pm.
People only care about their own opinion.
classy_silhouette@reddit
No! Wrong!! 11 is the better time to mow the lawn! That way you absolutely guarantee that you are bot being a selfish arse that only think about yourself.
Also, why can't you entertain yourself till 11?? What's so pressing!
I doubt anyone would ever complain at 11. Everybody is up at that point.
w1YY@reddit
11 PM not AM
classy_silhouette@reddit
Oh. What?? So what are you saying basically?? Who are the same people who would complain??
LimeGreenDuckReturns@reddit
Well yes, because we are trying to sleep.
Also, mowing the lawn in the dark is a stupid idea...
Nauseant@reddit
In the dark? It's liight hours before 8:45 right now.
LimeGreenDuckReturns@reddit
8:45 is before 11pm...
Nauseant@reddit
My bad,
I misread the thread of comments, I thought he was replying to a person referring to early morning mows
psioniclizard@reddit
My old neighbour used to mow the lawn at midnight when she got in arguments with her boyfriend (and it was a loud mower).
That said, this was in London and there was always someone making noise so it was more of an odd thing than an annoyance. Now in my new place a council guy comes and waters the plants outside at midnight. I have no clue why.
I would agree with others saying 10am but I do know from my old job (at a grounds maintenance company) grass cuts would start earlier.
skankyone@reddit
Not if you put spotlights on yer mower, then it's a sound idea!
ehproque@reddit
If only there was a sensible time of the day where 99% of people are awake…
BiscuitBarrel179@reddit
4% of the workforce work during the evening or night but not the day. 23% during the evening or night and the day. 73% to only work during the day.24 Jan 2023.
https://www.ons.gov.uk/businessindustryandtrade/business/activitysizeandlocation/articles/thenighttimeeconomyuk/2022#:~:text=4%25%20of%20the%20workforce%20to,only%20work%20during%20the%20day
ehproque@reddit
Yeah, now do "proportion of the population in work" (including children and retired), multiply the two, and then you can see by how much my finger in the air figure was off. Maybe It's 98% and not 99.
BiscuitBarrel179@reddit
The population of the UK is about 68m, 76% of those are classed as "in work", so about 51.6m people. Of those 51.6m people 4% work shifts, roughly 2m people or 3.4% of the entire UK population. I'm very willing to be corrected as maths isn't a subject I excelled at.
However your statement was "If only there was a time where 99% of the people were awake" we have no conclusive data of what time people are awake. The chronically unemployed may have a strange sleep pattern as they have no set routine. At weekends and school holidays teenagers are notorious for staying up late and sleeping well into the afternoon, as are people that may have been partying hard the night before. Babies sleep odd times, as do the elderly. On any given day a large number of people that work just regular days may have a day off and a lay in. Extrapolating all of that is nigh on impossible, but your 99% figure must likely will drop a lot, lot lower.
ehproque@reddit
I did mention babies in another comment. Nevertheless, since I'm not writing a paper on the subject, I'll just leave it as "a lot more people are asleep at 8am than at 10am, and a lot more people are asleep at 10am than at 7pm"
cjeam@reddit
Yeah, 9am to 9/10pm.
Independent-Chair-27@reddit
Not true atall due to shift work.
rstar345@reddit
Sounds like a shift worker problem tbh…
BiscuitBarrel179@reddit
Everyone could stop working shifts, then it becomes a society is fucked problem.
rstar345@reddit
Ok? Still doesn’t mean people have to accommodate them?
BiscuitBarrel179@reddit
Or maybe give them a little consideration as they are also contributing to how society functions? Many essential industries and jobs are 24/7, the convenience we enjoy comes at a price so how about cutting those that are paying it a little slack.
ForrestGrump87@reddit
thats on them though
you cant except the whole world to revolve around a person who works nights
Ambitious-Check8584@reddit
2022 - Office of national statistics says there's about 9.5 million people who work nights, almost 1/3 of people in employment work nights, nowhere near the whole world works days as you claim.
Yermawsyerdaisntit@reddit
Yea but they dont work nights constantly. In reality they probs do dayshift, backshift, nightshift, so 1/3 of that 1/3 are on nights at any given time. So its more like 10%. I wouldnt be avoiding cutting my grass because 1 of my 10 neighbours may possibly work nights. Thats on them to buy earplugs or whatever.
ForrestGrump87@reddit
ok
no one make noise ever then
ehproque@reddit
Yeah also at any given hour a baby will be napping somewhere, that's why I said 99% and not everyone
cjeam@reddit
99% of people are awake then. Shift work means some people will be asleep whatever time you choose.
Outrageous-Cable-925@reddit

glenman1882@reddit
It's my Saturday. I'll mow my lawn as and when I can get a chance, and if that's at 9 am, I'm mowing it at 9 am. My neighbours don't give a fuck about me or my kid sleeping at 1am when they're dogs are barking like fuck or when they're drunk mates start a fight in the street at 3am.
I'm sick of being considerate to wankers who show none in return 🤣🤣
Rhoshack@reddit
Laughs in Americans mowing their lawn at 7am
knobber_jobbler@reddit
I have to be at work at 6am. Mow away.
rakidi@reddit
There are other humans on earth mate.
knobber_jobbler@reddit
Terrible isn't it.
rakidi@reddit
Haha yeah sometimes.
Zindae@reddit
It does matter as I read, best time to mow is in the evening for the health of the grass
platonicgyrater@reddit
What and you think people aren't a sleep at 12pm? Not everyone works during the day and sleeps at night. 9am is reasonable, your always going to wind someone up... I say that but I do it at about 6pm because its the best time given my neighbors' jobs.
Kyuthu@reddit
Pretty sure construction work starts at 9am, so I would honestly find that fine. But also lawn mowing just feels like such a summer background noise to me, it wouldn't wake me up anyway. Construction work on the other hand would. And my neighbours all have dogs that start barking on their walks pre 9am qhen the bump into other dogs. They cant regulate or stop that, and that's more noise than a lawnmower humming.
But I think 10am is a fine compromise, if you don't want to be worried about bothering neighbours who might want a lie in. Because they'll be getting up for work at 7-8am anyway most days, so that's 2-3 hours extra.
But also people work nightshift, do mixed shifts, works weekends and not weekdays etc etc... you can't cater to everyone. So just be kind of nice/reasonable if you want to be, but don't cater to other people at the expense of what you yourself want to be doing. There's a reason out of hours sounds are 9am to 11pm. Just because other people have lie ins because they don't sleep enough the rest of the week, doesn't mean 9am isn't already lie in for most, or not a normal time.
My block of flats definitely has everyone up by around 9, because of the amount if kids and dogs in it. And the company that cuts the grass starts at 9am for that, and close cleaning... and mail deliveries still happen at that time also. So I think 9am isn't as bad as you're saying, it's just bad for you and those who need to catch up on sleep beyond a 1-2 hour lie in or after a night out.
Fattydog@reddit
So long as you’re just as considerate at the other end of the day and don’t make any noise after 9pm yourself.
Those who whinge about getting up for 9am have often been making a huge amount of noise til 1 or 2am the previous night.
Being considerate goes both ways, not just your way.
girlsparked@reddit
not me. was asleep at 11pm last night but need to catch up from the working week.
taylorstillsays@reddit
Wtf are you on about. People stay up till late on a Friday night every week without making considerable noise. Such a weird generalisation
LieutenantMudd@reddit
Yeah, I have 4 sons, aged between 7 and 17, I spend Friday nights driving around as a non charging taxi driver to football, youth clubs, etc. When we finally get a chance my wife and I will stick on a movie and stay up to 1 or 2am. That said, I'm usually up again after 7am to get ready to drive to more football games lol.
chiefmilkshake@reddit
That you think there's no middle ground shows how noisy you are yourself. Of course there are non-noisy people who aren't early birds.
Fattydog@reddit
I have suffered horrible mental health issues from noisy neighbours in the past, and had to sell my house because of them, spending thousands in the process. It was a nightmare.
I now live surrounded by fields; I’m never going through that anxiety and anguish again.
The fact you think otherwise leads me to believe you have never suffered issues like this, and are therefore the noisy person in your area.
chiefmilkshake@reddit
Nope, I'm the non-noisy night owl who you don't believe exists. Hi, we are here and we're sick of your early morning selfishness.
Fattydog@reddit
Since when did I say I was noisy in the mornings? You’re angry at my presumptions whilst doing exactly the same yourself.
chiefmilkshake@reddit
See, annoying isn't it? Hopefully you'll bear that in mind next time you make a daft assumption like all night owls are noisy late at night.
Jamericho@reddit
Yeah all those night workers or people who work 8-4 (or earliers) have lie ins on a weekend at all. It’s all those imaginary party animals.
DrH1983@reddit
Exactly, if my neighbours are going to be shrieking like banshees until 1am whilst having drinks on the patio I'm going to damn well not care about interrupting their sleep.
BSBOHIO@reddit
It gets hot as hell at noon. I can see why people want to mow that early.
lordrothermere@reddit
It's more that Saturday is a working day for many, including noisy work such as building, groundwork etc. And that largely starts at 9am.
Whoisthehypocrite@reddit
Building work on a Sat can usually start from 8am.
lordrothermere@reddit
Well OP is running an hour late then!!
NinjaCuntPunt@reddit
Yep, I’ve always gone by the standard building allowed times. Work can start at 8am. 10 on a Sunday if I’m doing anything noisy.
Ambitious-Check8584@reddit
Normal person, are you thick?, normal is a matter of perspective, I work night shift so if I want to cut my grass at 8am after I finish work then thats exactly what i will do, I doubt that mowing a lawn would be classed as noisy works but even if it is, still legally allowed to start at 8am.
cleb9200@reddit
Seriously? I thought the only people still in bed at 9 on a Saturday were teenagers? Most people are up by then surely? That said, I wouldn’t mow til about 10pm. Had another neighbour mowing at half nine on the other day, this is worse imo because it’s hot and everyone’s trying to enjoy their gardens/ kids windows open and they’re trying to sleep. Like who mows at nearly 10pm on a Saturday night?
Melvinator5001@reddit
Umm so by 8am I’ve been at work for 2hrs. So mowing the lawn at 9am is fine especially because it annoys people who think the world revolves around them.
rakidi@reddit
If only you could see the irony in your "people who think the world revolves around them" comment.
Melvinator5001@reddit
I can and proud of it
mikebenb@reddit
So you're saying you were being consciously ironic about thinking of yourself as the center of the world. You must be fun at parties! Oh wait, you don't go to parties as they start at 8pm and you've allready been tucked up in bo-bo's for 2 hours.
chiefmilkshake@reddit
Expecting people to be considerate isn't "thinking the world revolves around them". Not everyone who gets up later is noisy. It's the weekend, let people have a bit more much needed sleep that they can't get in the week.
v2marshall@reddit
What if they have other things to do that day away from their house? I laid a new patio last year and on Saturdays I started at 9, Sundays 10

Generallyl the sort of people sleeping past 9 are the sort of people playing loud music at 1am keeping everyone awake.
SwirlingAbsurdity@reddit
No, some of just need more sleep than others. I went to bed at 12.30 last night and woke up at 10am today, probably because the night before my sleep was a little broken. And I would never play loud music past 10pm.
IHaveHivesWithBees@reddit
They probably live in Australia, most by-laws in Australia state that noise works are allowed to start in residential areas at 7am weekdays and 9am weekends. Obviously that is just what our rules say if they want to fine you, from a decent human being point of view 10am the earliest!
Dumpstar72@reddit
Yeah but if you live in northern Australia your choices are to do it early or late in the day. Cause no one wants to mow the lawn during the heat of the day. And mowing at 5pm is terrible.
just-a-random-guy93@reddit
I wish i could have a sleep in, damn body clock is in work time all the time!
Pengetalia@reddit
I was up at half five with the other half going to work and letting the pooch out. Chilled in bed for a bit scrolling and then had a mini nap. Woke up at half 9 and I'm ready to face the world.
I'm always in work mode when it comes to waking up too.
TheRookieRobot@reddit
I’d wait till 10, but legally 8am is fine and it would be absolutely ridiculous for anyone to complain about it at 9am. I’d invest in earplugs if it’s a bother.
LondonCycling@reddit
Depends where you live.
Legally, our council doesn't have any time restrictions for domestic noise. It's perfectly lawful to cut our grass at 7am if we were so inclined.
TheRookieRobot@reddit
On a weekend? I’ve heard some councils setting it later but not earlier haha.
Goes to show legal doesn’t always mean social.
LondonCycling@reddit
There's nothing saying I couldn't do it at 2am, but that's taking the biscuit.
It's entirely case by case for domestic noise here. They take into account the noise level, the frequency, the proximity of the neighbours, whether there's a reasonable alternative, etc.
If I cut my grass at 7am once a month and somebody reported it, I've a funny feeling the council might ask if I can do it later but otherwise say it's fine. If I did it at 5am every Saturday, maybe a different conversation.
Controversialcant@reddit
That's what Sundays are for
EntirelyRandom1590@reddit
Find me a trade worker that'll wait til 10am on a Saturday morning!
cer_olmo@reddit
Are these same people keeping the noise down at 7pm when kids are being put to bed?
Organic_Armadillo_10@reddit
I'd say 10am is an acceptable time to start. Maybe from 9am, but 10 would be better depending on your neighbor situation. And likely up to as late as 6pm if you want to be courteous of neighbors.
There's nothing worse than really wanting to have a lie in, only for a lawnmower or some sort of construction to start up outside really early. It exhausts you and ruins your day a lot of the time.
If you don't have any close neighbors then earlier/later is probably fine.
I did just read a few things saying outside of 7am-11pm would be classed as antisocial behaviour, but most seem to recommend from 10am.
In Switzerland it's illegal to mow on Sundays, I believe between 12-1pm (lunch time - at least on Saturdays) and after 5 or 6pm. So at least you aren't as limited as that.
Ambitious-Check8584@reddit
It's a uk page so 8am is the legally allowed start time for noisy works mon-sat though most electric mowers here wouldn't be classed as noisy works, at the end of the day people have different lives and people just have to accept that, I work nights so 7am-midday/1pm is my free time and that's when I do things like wash the car, listen to music and tidy up ect, it's just tough shit for anyone who dislikes it because I need to sleep through all their noise and I don't complain.
EvilTactician@reddit
8am might be legal, but that doesn't mean it's considerate. I can legally park my car in a way which makes it pretty tough for you to get out of your drive way, doesn't mean I should or would.
You have a very "this is when I do things" attitude and don't seem to care whatsoever for other people around you. I'd hate to live near you.
KnotiaPickles@reddit
Yep. Anything earlier on Saturday and you suck. Badly.
More_Importance8520@reddit

My neighbours children make whatever noise they want - whenever they want. Most of it completely unnecessary screaming.

I feel like it depends how hot it's going to get that week. If it's going to be 25+ degrees from 10am onwards then do it earlier.
If it's a cool 18 degrees, then wait until a more reasonable time when people are awake.
beast_wellington@reddit
Here in Texas it gets hot. People routinely start at 7:30 am. Yesterday the heat index was 46°. Bananas!
Legitimate_War_397@reddit

danjama@reddit
No chance. 8am is fair game. Not everybody wants to waste the day.
trentraps@reddit
I do see what you're saying - I know a lot of early birds...
But what are you doing at 10 that you can't do at 8?
I'm 1% salty about this issue cuz there's a divorced dad that picks his kids up every Saturday at 8am and honks his horn every time. Hate it, but I'm trying to be fair. He's got things worse than me.
danjama@reddit
I fucking hate that! That's genuinely selfish behaviour. Nobody should be out cutting grass to be spiteful. Wait if you can of course. But if you need to get it done as you you have other plans then needs must!
__sunmoonstars__@reddit
Agreed I generally wait for either 10am or knowing my neighbours are awake to do anything noisy (including washing as I’m in a terrace).
I also try to wait til 10am to make any calls to call centres because I have been there and calls at 9am on the dot are brutal.
VenZallow@reddit
The only correct time.
Cultural_Tank_6947@reddit
I agree with the 10am but more because that is probably the earliest that the grass will have dried up.
Independent-Chair-27@reddit
Depends on the lawn. Mines in direct sunlight first thing so is often dry. Not a thing I’ve thought about much as I usually cut 7.30 pm as kids are out of way then.

Reading this 2yrs later. It's been raining constantly. This Saturday it will rain again later in the day. I also desperately need to mow the lawn. 😭

RoxSteady247@reddit

fernbritton@reddit

LondonCycling@reddit
Every time this thread comes up I swear the suggestion gets later and later.
The idea that the only way to be considerate to neighbours is making no noise on the weekend until 2pm is frankly ridiculous.
The_Blip@reddit
It's silly really, at the end of the day someone somewhere is going to be sleeping. Be it they do a regular shift, an early shift, a late shift, a night shift... There's always a chance you're making noise during someone's rest period.
I think if you're on night shift you have to accept the fact that you're running your life at inconvenient hours. Yeah, it sucks, but that's what the bonus pay is supposed to make up for.
If OP wants to get the mowing done at 9am, a time generally accepted as a normal time to be up and about, then get on with the rest of his day then I don't see the problem.
Cloielle@reddit
Bonus pay? Lol. Go back to 1975, grandpa ;) I’ve worked evening shifts, night shifts, weekends, bank holidays. None of my companies have ever paid extra for any of them. It’s not the norm any more.
The_Blip@reddit
Sounds like you're a sucker then tbh. I got time and a half 4 years ago working night shift at a warehouse. My last job paid early/late shift workers time and a third. My current job pays night shift workers time and a half.
If you're not getting at least time and a quarter for unsocial hours, you're getting ripped off. Even in 2023.
Cloielle@reddit
Maybe you’re a sucker too if you’re only getting time and a half for nights instead of double time which used to be standard.
The_Blip@reddit
Rn I'm salaried with time and a half for any OT, along with flexi time.
LoveBeBrave@reddit
At my company weekend and nights get paid extra. Weekend nights get even more.
LondonCycling@reddit
I have a similar view.
And if you're a light sleeper, ear plugs.
There's plenty of things going on by 9am, shops are open, kids are playing outside, the stables have a few horses clip clopping down our street for riding lessons.
Coraldiamond192@reddit
Exactly. For the vast majority of people they are up and running by 9am so I wouldn't have a problem with people mowing the lawn at that time. Is it me or is it generally people who only work Monday to Friday that complain about people being up at 9am to mow the lawn?
BuffettsBrokeBro@reddit
Ear plugs aren’t always enough to drown out persistent, loud noise. A horse walking down a street or a few kids running about isn’t exactly on the same decibel level as someone running a lawnmower for 15-30 minutes…
rstar345@reddit
Then buy noise cancelling headphones if it upsets them that much
Cloielle@reddit
Horses clip clopping is NOT as loud (nor does it go on as long) as your next door neighbour mowing the lawn.
The_Blip@reddit
I work early shift and am usually in bed by 9pm. I can't imagine getting belligerent at people for having a garden party till 10pm on saturday just because I want to sleep early.
Astrokiwi@reddit
Literally any time of day or night, there's going to be someone who only just got their toddler to nap after an hour-long tantrum, for instance

Also most people have electric mowers these days which make hardly any noise.
caniuserealname@reddit
"considerate" isn't just one line in the sand.
Mowing at 8am is inconsiderate. Mowing at 10 is considerate to most people. mowing at 2-3pm is considerate to almost everyone.
Nobody is going to fault you for not inconviniencing yourself to always pick the most considerate option. Living constantly like that would be exhausting. But it doesn't mean its not more considerate.
CatFoodBeerAndGlue@reddit
My kids go to bed at 7.30pm so if everybody in the country could keep it down after that time that would be great 🙄

AdditionalNewt4762@reddit
Exactly. I live in shit hole Florida and would rather mow my lawn when it's 80 at ~9am then when it's 95 at ~noon lol
rstar345@reddit

pizzaosaurs@reddit
Whhhhhhaaaaaaa??? So mid day heat when is hottest let's mow? Do exert lots of energy when it is so hot they tell you to avoid being outside at that time??? No! As someone heat sensitive that's a definite no.
It "can't wait" and suggestions of every one waiting until after noon is just selfish and dangerous.
I've seen many young people burn themselves, get heat stroke and then get grass flying everywhere at lunch time.
Yum grass for lunch and hayfever.

IamGrassBot@reddit
Grass is a type of plant with narrow leaves growing from the base. Their appearance as a common plant was in the mid-Cretaceous period. There are 12,000 species now.
A common kind of grass is used to cover the ground in places such as lawns and parks. Grass is usually the color green. That is because they are wind-pollinated rather than insect-pollinated, so they do not have to attract insects. Green is the best colour for photosynthesis.
Grasslands such as savannah and prairie where grasses are dominant cover 40.5% of the land area of the Earth, except Greenland and Antarctica.
Grasses are monocotyledon herbaceous plants. They include the "grass" of the family Poaceae, which are called grass by ordinary people. This family is also called the Gramineae, and includes some of the sedges (Cyperaceae) and the rushes (Juncaceae). These three families are not very closely related, though all of them belong to clades in the order Poales. They are similar adaptations to a similar life-style.
With around 780 genera and around 12,000 species, the Poaceae is the fifth-largest plant family, after the Asteraceae, Orchidaceae, Fabaceae and Rubiaceae.
The true grasses include cereals, bamboo and the grasses of lawns (turf) and grassland. Uses for graminoids include food (as grain, sprouted grain, shoots or rhizomes), drink (beer, whisky), pasture for livestock, thatching thatch, paper, fuel, clothing, insulation, construction, sports turf, basket weaving and many others.
Many grasses are short, but some grasses can grow tall, such as bamboo. Plants from the grass family can grow in many places and make grasslands, including areas which are very arid or cold. There are several other plants that look similar to grass and are referred to as such, but are not members of the grass family. These plants include rushes, reeds, papyrus and water chestnut. Seagrass is a monocot in the order Alismatales.
Grasses are an important food for many animals, such as deer, buffalo, cattle, mice, grasshoppers, caterpillars and many other grazers. Unlike other plants, grasses grow from the bottom, so when animals eat grass they usually do not destroy the part that grows. This is a part of why the plants are successful. Without grass, soil may wash away into rivers (erosion). ——————————————-

Depends on when your night shift starts and ends, I work in a hospital lab and ours are 12 hours 9am till 9pm. I'd have been asleep roughly an hour and a half by the time he started mowing if he started at 11, and I usually sleep till 3.
The reality is anyone who works regular night shifts has to get used to routine noise from neighbours and to a lesser extent family, we can't expect the world to put their lives on hold to accommodate us. To be fair, after a night shift I'd sleep through an atomic bomb anyway.
everybody-meow-now@reddit
You can really see who the night workers are in this thread, lots of well-meaning people thinking of night shift workers suggesting appropriate times, when in reality, it really doesn't make a blind bit of difference. When I finish nights I will sleep through an earthquake too, or I'll wear ear plugs. I'm so used to everyone else (rightfully) getting on with their day that it doesn't bother me, years of sleep training.
alexllew@reddit
For me it's actually getting to sleep. Once I'm out I have no issues but when the builders start banging away as soon as I get home at 8 am I have real trouble.
everybody-meow-now@reddit
Ugh, my sympathies, sleep mask, headphones and melatonin are your friends here!
alexllew@reddit
Thankfully I'm off nights now. Had a horrible year during covid of 24/7 shift working. 4 on 2 off alternating earlies, lates and overnights on fortnightly schedules. Absolutely fucked up my sleep for months after
Music-as-a-Weapon@reddit
True, and then there's the people who don't work specifically night shifts, but have the kind of jobs that include 15 hours and upwards days, where they may finish at 3am one night, 5am another, and basically just be all over the clock. Living with a person who works in that way, I can agree that he'll sleep through anything, at any hour of the day, no matter what's happening outside!
everybody-meow-now@reddit
That tends to be how it goes! The body gets used to it and works around it.. circadian rhythm? What circadian rhythm? Lol.
0xSnib@reddit
I'm a heavy sleeper, but it's incredibly hard for me to actually get to sleep with background noise
It doesn't bother me if there's people going about their day, but moving the grass an hour later really does help buckets
everybody-meow-now@reddit
I understand that, I'm being a bit mean really, I just suffer it in my own house where my partner says he spent the day trying to be as quiet as a mouse and I roll my eyes and think there was no point him suffering because of me, I wouldn't have heard it! I guess I feel bad that people think they should act differently when they are the normal ones! I would probably prefer people did what they gotta do early too if I'm honest lol but I'd never expect them to.
0xSnib@reddit
I’m thankful I had a good living relationship with my neighbours
I didn’t keep them up late/have house parties that took the piss, they don’t do drilling/mowing before 11 haha
Muz333@reddit
I’m jealous of all these night shift workers that sleep so well during the day. I work 06:00-18:00 and 18:00-06:00 shifts and I rarely manage more than three hours of sleep after a nightshift. Thankfully I only work 2-3 of them in a row now compared to my old 8 hour roster where we worked 7 consecutive shifts.
Anyway we shift workers are used to noise during the day so I say just now the lawn at anytime after 09:00 seems fair.
CoolRanchBaby@reddit
Shift workers will be asleep at all points of the day though. My parents both worked shifts, day, swings and night, and if the neighbours had tried not to mow the grass when they wouldn’t possibly be asleep they would have never been able to mow. It’s nice to think of them but regular shift workers usually have white noise, fans, ear plugs etc. They expect people to be doing normal stuff like mowing during daytime hours.
0xSnib@reddit
Yep, which is why 'if you want to me nice'
Not a hard rule, but night workers will be incredibly thankful for it
muppet4@reddit
Except, as they just explained, night workers won't even realise it.
i_literally_died@reddit
My new neighbour works nights (10pm-6am I believe, he leaves some time after 9pm and I see him getting home around ~06:10).
When is appropriate for me to do anything that makes noise? I play guitar at home, not obnoxiously loud, but it's probably humming through the walls for the short bursts I do recording in the weekend afternoons or weekday evenings.
I don't know if people doing nights flake as soon as they get home then get up ~3pm, or whether they have their after work time, then crash around midday and get up an hour or two before their 10pm shift.
0xSnib@reddit
You can’t be expected to completely change your life to adjust to the someone on a different schedule than most, I think guitar is fine but they’d probably appreciate you thinking of them
I’d tend to make some food then go to bed. It it was usually on the tail end of a 14 hour shift so usually shattered haha
DaveBeBad@reddit
Night shift workers are probably not getting to bed much before 10… I didn’t when I was on nights
Between 9 and 10 should be a good time to get it done while not waking up too many people
Plenty_Tap_4383@reddit
Absolutely not, as a nurse I did 12 hour nights an was home by 8:30, save it til the afternoon when we are bound to be resting to wake anyway.
freefallade@reddit
I work nights and go straight to bed at 06.45 when I get in.
sihasihasi@reddit
When I worked nights, I finished at 6am, and was home and in bed by 6:30
prof_hobart@reddit
My nightshifts finished at 6am and treated it as the equivalent of a 6pm finish - settle in for some food and some "evening" TV - and be in bed by about 11.
Different people do it differently, so it's impossible to second guess what a good time for avoiding upsetting shift workers unfortunately.
sihasihasi@reddit
Yeah. I did it the other way around. Went straight to bed, then got up about 1pm.
prof_hobart@reddit
And that's the problem with trying to please people on non-standard hours. Unless you know the individual and their routine, no time of day is going to be automatically better or worse for them.
sihasihasi@reddit
Indeed. I just accepted the fact that I was likely to be disturbed by others going about their perfectly normal lives.
Kaioxygen@reddit
I work nights and I'm in bed at 6. 9am is unacceptable.
Ambitious-Check8584@reddit
Seems to be a lot in here that like going to sleep when they finish so they would be getting up hrs before starting for some reason, I go to sleep midday-1pm for 9pm start with a 6/7am finish, giving me enough sleep and a few hours free time after work to sort things out and chill.
penguinmassive@reddit
Depends when your night shift finishes. Nights in my place is usually always done by 4am.
LittleMMCX@reddit
Most night staff at care homes finish between 7-8am (12hr shifts). But from my experience after working a long shift, I'm falling asleep watching TV a couple of hours later, so with the window shut, it shouldn't bother them too much.
0xSnib@reddit
We closed at 7am on the weekends and by the time I'd cashed up I was home by 9am
Late night clubs can be brutal I don't think my sleep schedule has recovered yet
DaveBeBad@reddit
We finished at 7:30, with a 40 minute drive home. Was rarely in bed before 9 by the time I was done.
penguinmassive@reddit
Yeah I couldn’t be finishing at that time, I’d never get to sleep once the noise starts! Thankfully I am in bed by 4:30, sometimes the singing birds keeps me up though! 🤣
0xSnib@reddit
Yeah I’m a ‘hella heavy sleeper but only once I’m asleep haha
BigfatDan1@reddit
I used to do 1900-0700, and was out like a light by 0830, and that was with a 45 minute commute.
Mrszombiecookies@reddit
I'm out cold by 11am but I'm a dead sleeper so it doesn't bother me but I'm led to believe I'm not normal. However it's not OPs issue and life goes on unfortunately can't please everyone
cryptoking87@reddit
Not shift worker here.
I get to bed at 8am.
It doesn't make a difference to me if you cut it at 9am or 11am, it's the same either way. We just have to learn to sleep through the noise.
JoeDougieD@reddit
I’m a late shift worker (get home at 3am). My neighbours are always kind enough to hold out until mid day to do their noisy yard work or DIY, and it’s very much appreciated.
caniuserealname@reddit
I work nights and i don't understand your reasoning. I'd be trying to sleep at 11am. Most night shift workers will be trying to sleep at 11am. Theres no benefit to us by starting mowing at that point.. I mean, would a day worker be especially grateful if i were doing my mowing at 2am? I feel like thered be a lot of upset people if i did my mowing at 2am.
Don't get me wrong, mow whenever, night shift workers more than understand that they're going to have to sleep through daytime noises, we made peace with that, and i appreciate that you're thinking of us... but i genuinely don't understand the benefit you're seeing.
tenders11@reddit
I used to work night shifts and I'd sleep from 11-7, so that'd be literally the worst time to start. But ultimately if you opt to work nights you understand that you'll be trying to sleep while everyone else lives their waking lives and don't have to accommodate you.
GibbsLAD@reddit
My mum works nights at a hospital and sleeps until 2pm.
petit_cochon@reddit
Shift workers learn to sleep through anything.
Source: my husband and all his swing shift coworkers. It's amazing what he can sleep through.
Also, y'all, noise machines are a blessing. Try one out if you're a lighter sleeper.

Crookles86@reddit
Nightshift worker here, albeit 4 nights not 5. Friday night Saturday morning is turnaround time. Fire that mower up before 10am and I’m cutting the cord!
RobOfBlue@reddit
It isn't everyone else's fault you work nights.
Crookles86@reddit
To be fair, you’re quite correct. It’s irrelevant whether I’m on nights or not because it isn’t anyone else’s fault.
I also do day shift, which is 7.30-4pm.
Fire that mower up before 10am on a Saturday when I’m on days and guess what?
I’m cutting the cord.
16_mullins@reddit

No we wouldn't, I don't get home until 9.30 so I'd have just gotten asleep. But I accept that people have to do things and sometimes that makes noise, just don't go telling people I'm thankful for it.
SnooPineapples7988@reddit
I tend to get up earlier on the weekends, its like my body goes “yay no work today make the most of it” - i’d say 9am for mowing? I’m a Mid terrace house and my neighbours would nearly always be up by then anyway. If they were having a coffee in the garden which he often does in summer i’d hold off until he was finished or shout over the fence - “sorry going to mow the lawn in 10 minutes, will be quick”.
classy_silhouette@reddit
Why are you all guys seriously OBSESSED with mowing the lawn so fking early on the WEEKEND?!?! I just don't fucking get it!!! What is soooo pressing about mowing the lawn that you must attend to it at the EARLIEST POSSIBLE TIME?!? It's like some fetsh addiction it feels! Like those men that HAVE to mow the lawn at 8-9 am! Why?
Can you not wait till the afternoon?? Would it kill ya'll?? Because I promise you, you ARE disturbed SOMEONE on that early hour!
For me, personal it had to be a MINIMUM 11 am!! Heck do it in the afternoon!! 10:30 if you really can't hold yourself! 🙈🙈🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️

You’re the problem lol
Silkscr3am@reddit
Only if you're up late 😂
Tim246801@reddit
I think it really depends on what type of house you have.
If you have close neighbours id say 9am, but again you can do it earlier but run the risk of them being pissed off. Lots of people will say don’t care what they think etc but having neighbours on side is very useful!!
If you’re neighbours are far away, go nuts, mow in the middle of the night!
Intelligent-Ad5931@reddit
If it's hot you're actually better of mowing in the evening when it's cooler to allow the grass to recover overnight without heat blasting it.
huckinfell2019@reddit
As there is also probably still dew in the grass that early which will cause the grass to clump, best to wait until late afternoon. Plus then it has started to cool down as well.
Agreeable-Brief-4315@reddit
It actually isn't cooler late afternoon though. It's at it's hottest around 4/5pm at the moment.
huckinfell2019@reddit
I usually mow now around 6 or 7 pm. UK. Can I ask where you are where it is hottest at that time?
Agreeable-Brief-4315@reddit
Are you from the UK? The past few weeks when the sun is out and it's a blue sky it's been hottest at 4-6pm
Much-Range5139@reddit
It’s not always that it’s hottest but the temperature doesn’t drop in the afternoon as quickly as it rises in the morning
Boghallbutcher@reddit
Yeah don't be that guy who is cutting his grass early on a weekend. I am awake from 5am daily and even I think it's rude when a neighbour of mine starts cutting grass and using power tools from 8am most weekends, I might be awake but there are always others who need more rest

NaturalSuccessful521@reddit
I don't know. Nobody has ever asked this question before.
markcarsonboxz@reddit
Here, it wouldn't matter what time, as the constant incessant noise from gulls keep everyone up all night.
I do try however to be respectful.
notmadmaddy@reddit
As someone who grew up in a hot climate - 9 am is fair game to me. If it’s going to be a cooler day than it wouldn’t hurt waiting till 10 am.
Wolfeh297@reddit
Personally if I'm not working, I won't do noisy shit before 9. I used to do 10 but I did this strange, unique thing that atomised people in overpopulated hellholes like london/birmingham/manchester etc who don't know anyone really struggle to understand called "talking to my neighbours" when I moved in and they all said after 9 is fair game. If I have to make noise before then (AKA need to get workmen in and they'll be making noise) I let the neighbors know and appologise for the inconvenience in advance.
That being said, it's a minimum, not a target, typically it's closer to noon because I do shit in the mornings.
arg97@reddit
yeah i’m up early too but that’s ridiculous
Blandiblub@reddit
9 midweek, 10 weekends IMO.
NoodlePenguinn@reddit
But what about those that work weekends and need lie ins during the weekday? Do those who get weekends off only matter?
All_within_my_hands@reddit
And this is why the whole "lie in argument" is ridiculous.
Anything from half 8 is game in my eyes. 7 days a week.
Nauseant@reddit
I don't know why you're getting downvoted. You're right.
How do people not think 8:30 is a reasonable time? The environmental protection act says after 7am is reasonable.
You can't please everyone no matter what time you do it. If you've been out drinking and want a lie in, that's not my choice that's yours. If you do shift work and work late that's unfortunate for you but it's what you signed up for. If your just up late and a night owl, how is that my responsibility?
So long as you keep within the allowed times there shouldn't be an issue. If people really have an issue with that and the noise laws they can always invest in earplugs, it's what I used to do when I worked nights.
PurposeSensitive9624@reddit
The same act also allows you to let off fireworks until 11pm. Would you be ok if your neighbour did that?
Nauseant@reddit
That does happen and it doesn't bother me, I'll just pop my earplugs in
The act actually doesn't permit that because the decibels are higher than the limit.
duskfinger67@reddit
Waiting till later is more considerate, but I completely agree, anything from 8am is totally fair game.
I don’t want to be doing gardening in the middle of the day in summer, so will start early. I much prefer early nights to lie ins, but if someone is mowing their lawn at 6pm as I’m winding down for the night, that’s just fine. If I do need a lie in after a late night, that’s on me, and I won’t hold anyone else’s morning hostage due to my decision.
HaylingZar1996@reddit

Warm_Werewolf1890@reddit
Accommodating for everyone isn’t easy
CrappyMike91@reddit
You can't accommodate everyone but also the mentality of people that things need to be done in the morning just doesn't make that much sense to me. If your day is free why not mow the lawn in the afternoon? Does it need to be done first thing in the morning?
ThidrikTokisson@reddit
If my day is free I will spend most of it with friends or family from mid-day onward, so any work needs to be done in the morning.
CrappyMike91@reddit
Spending time with friends and family would mean your day isn't free and so in that case, yes, the work needs to be done early when you are free. I was referring to a day where you don't have anything you need to do, or only things that you could do first and then mow the lawn afterwards. My point being that mowing the lawn isn't something that specifically has to be done in the morning it can just as easily be done later in the day
Gixxer1000k@reddit
You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time
throwaway768977@reddit
You can’t accommodate everyone, but most people work during the week and children are off school so it’s more likely people will be sleeping in.
lordofthedancesaidhe@reddit
My neighbour has a Gardener that comes at 8am and mows during the week. She complained about me mowing mine in the afternoon coz of the noise whilst she tries to sunbathe 🙄
Gryphacus@reddit
Man, I wish I lived in a neighborhood where people thought like this. In my neighborhood everyone hires a different contractor so they come almost every day of the week, absolutely pushing the legal ordinances no matter what day. 7am weekdays and 8am weekends, legally… but you better believe they start half an hour early.
ThrowawayTrainee749@reddit
Why? If it’s after 7:30 ish, you can’t really complain about being woken up. If you need your sleep that badly get a pair of earplugs
movienerd7042@reddit
A lot of people like to enjoy a lie in and don’t need the annoying noise
ThrowawayTrainee749@reddit
So get some earplugs. My life doesn’t stop for your lie in
CrappyMike91@reddit

ThrowawayTrainee749@reddit
Honestly how loud do you think lawnmowers are 😂
movienerd7042@reddit
And it’s an irritating noise anyway, people don’t want to hear it at length when they’re enjoying one of probably only two quiet lie ins in the week
movienerd7042@reddit
If it’s happening next door to you it can be very loud, especially on an otherwise quiet Saturday morning and (this is specific to my situation but still) you have sensory issues etc. and noises like that stop you from being able to think
NYKNYJ@reddit
You don’t have many friends do you?
ThrowawayTrainee749@reddit

BuildingArmor@reddit
Do you have a WhatsApp group to synchronise mowing? It seems so important to you to mow at precisely 7:30 on a Saturday morning that I'd expect you've got more on the line then your own desires.
Mrszombiecookies@reddit
Serious question, how do you hear your alarm if you have ear plugs in?
UnchillBill@reddit
You don’t, I’ve tried. I’d love to be able to sleep in earplugs, living in zone 2 London, but I don’t hear the alarm and my watch vibrating isn’t enough to wake me.
ThrowawayTrainee749@reddit

Plenty_Tap_4383@reddit
Definitely after 10am, but I always think mowing should be an afternoon job out of curtesy to neighbours, you can’t be sure if they’re a night shift worker. Having been a nurse in NICU who routinely did 12 hour night shifts I can categorically state it is utterly exhausting and dangerous for critically ill babies if staff do not get enough sleep. Lawn mowing on Saturday mornings was a guarantee in the summer and it’s awful.

Maybe you should be asking where still hasn’t had rain yet? Plenty of the country has had torrential downpours and storms recently.
Ballbag94@reddit
I mean, not really their fault for not knowing that if it's not been raining near them. Last night is the first time we've had rain in a week or two and I personally had no clue there were torrential downpours elsewhere
bambrini16@reddit
I think it’s fair and reasonable not to be across the weather in all parts of the country and know exactly what’s what where, but it is kind of weird to just assume the entire country has exactly the same weather and not consider it might be different somewhere else
Ballbag94@reddit
Eh, like, I'm sort of with you on that, I'm just saying that if someone lives somewhere that normally gets wetter and colder weather than other places I can see why they would assume that the rest of the country is hotter and dryer
I'm pretty surprised to learn that it's still damp and green in places like Bristol when 40 miles west it's been dry and yellowing for a couple of weeks
bambrini16@reddit
Oh, maybe there’s a misunderstanding here- that’s not what I’d understood from the thread. I had understood that they were accusing someone of lying about there being dewdrops/ suggesting it’s not a factor right now purely because it is hot and dry where they are in the country. I personally don’t see what you’re referring to about them living in a wetter and colder place and assuming the rest of the country is hotter and drier, sorry. Could you elaborate? I’m not totally sober so I’m obviously missing something, sorry!
Ballbag94@reddit
Ah, I didn't think that they were suggesting the other person was lying, I just figured that they assumed the entire country was dry and yellow right now on the basis that it's like that where they are
I took their comments more as surprise because I was pretty surprised to read that there's still dew in places that are normally warmer than where I am
bambrini16@reddit
Ahh I see, got you. Thanks! Mm, I think I would have interpreted it as surprise if they’d used some qualifiers like “here” or “where I am” or something, but without those it sounds more accusatory/ inflammatory to me.
Ballbag94@reddit
That makes sense, I definitely see where you're coming from! Maybe I'm being too generous but I reckon it's just down to the fact that communcating feeling is hard in text based communication
bambrini16@reddit
Oh, absolutely- we’ve come up with lots of clever ways to express emotion and such in text but it still isn’t always perfect!
Incubus85@reddit
The forecast has forecasts storms on 5 days and I've not experience a single one.
It's strange that a man, I presume, is backing me up with the username ballbag. But I'm with ballbag on this. Only goes to reason if I'm not where the weather has been hottest, that I'd presume everywhere else also has grass that's struggling. Especially when places that have been hottest have already been suggesting hose pipe bans.
You don't REALLY expect dew in these conditions.
Ballbag94@reddit
Hell, we haven't even had storms forecast here, just constant heat
But yeah, I'm in South Wales and it's been roasting every day for over a week so I assumed that everywhere else is hotter considering Wales is normally cold and wet, imo your logic makes sense

I hate to be "that guy" but the answer to this question is going to be the same every Saturday. So can we not just learn to use the search function?
luciesssss@reddit (OP)
I did a Google search first and reddit posts didn't come up
All_within_my_hands@reddit
Like I said, learn to use the search function.
On reddit you simply type it in the search box and then check the box that says limit results to AskUK. For example these are the results I see.
On Google you can add
site:<sitename>to the end of a query to specify results from a given site. Stickingwhat time is acceptable to cut the grass site:reddit.cominto google returns these results.GoldenDrummer@reddit
Glad someone said this. So many people don’t know how to perform a simple google search properly.
All_within_my_hands@reddit
Blows my mind.
This is a tool that many people use multiple times a day and the vast majority of them can't be arsed to learn how to use it beyond the very, very basics.
Still, if after all this time people still cannot use Google it gives me some hope that they will never learn to use AI effectively.
LooselyBasedOnGod@reddit
they're called 'ask-holes' - people who'd rather ask others an inane and easily found question rather than spend 5 seconds looking themselves.
GoldenDrummer@reddit
I mean maybe relax a little bit. It’s not that deep 😂
InfinityEternity17@reddit
Christ alive you lot sound so pretentious. Ooooh sorry we're not all tech nerds like you, how dare we want to discuss an "inane" question on a site meant for discussion!
GoldenDrummer@reddit
I don’t back any of the excessive levels of passion that seem to have escalated wildly here off the back of my comment 😂. I was actually glad someone said it so it was out there for the next person. Can some level headed people downvote it to even out the balance from the incels I seem to have attracted 😂
Succulent_Orange@reddit
I agree with your point but not your wording
InfinityEternity17@reddit
That's fair, I was probably a little harsh
Succulent_Orange@reddit
fwiw I'm not one that downvoted you, I think this website is a bit oblivious to how little many people know
devilishycleverchap@reddit
If only there was some sort of box they could type questions into and get answers
Knowing how to Google is not advanced IT knowledge, I was literally taught this in middle school
Succulent_Orange@reddit
There weren't computers in schools when my parents were studying. Being so smart, you should understand that the literal majority of the population didn't have computers in schools, aka the majority didn't get taught those skills. Also the "search:Website.com" trick wasn't even included in the syllabus, so the majority of people in school didn't learn that either. compound those together and you'll see it's a VERY small minority that knows how to effectively google, and once something is only known by a very small minority... it's classed as advanced, even if it's easy.
Being so smart I'm sure you can see a wider world view than your personal experience.
devilishycleverchap@reddit
I learned this decades ago.
Decades.
What have these people being doing? Have they never heard Google it?
Fucking Google how to Google.
It isn't advanced, you just think it is because they are completely unwilling to learn the basics
LooselyBasedOnGod@reddit
If you can type a question here you can google it too you melt.
InfinityEternity17@reddit
Ok this subreddit has 0 point then, cause there's no reason to ask the sub anything when you could just Google it
curiously-peculiar@reddit
Well that is generally the point of Reddit. You ask questions that you can’t find the answers to anywhere else. Most subs advise users to search it first
InfinityEternity17@reddit
I've been on Reddit for 4 years and I've seen maybe one or two subs give that advice
All_within_my_hands@reddit
Read the rules for this very sub.
InfinityEternity17@reddit
Ok well most posts on this sub are questions that could easily be googled, so looks like most people don't read those rules either
All_within_my_hands@reddit
No argument here.
devilishycleverchap@reddit
Lol, literally every main sub has this rule
bambrini16@reddit
I thought the point of Reddit was entertainment and discussion? I’ve never considered it a search engine of any sort, for want of a better phrase.
LooselyBasedOnGod@reddit
This question gets posted weekly though
InfinityEternity17@reddit
So? Just scroll past it then
LooselyBasedOnGod@reddit
You could just scroll past my comments too
InfinityEternity17@reddit
Fair point
LooselyBasedOnGod@reddit
Enjoy rest of your weekend mate
InfinityEternity17@reddit
You too pal
All_within_my_hands@reddit
There is literally a sub rule that demands people do their research before posting.
There is nothing tech nerd about knowing how to use a tool most people use multiple times a day.
I'm going to assume you're so upset by this because you too are unable to use said tool.
All_within_my_hands@reddit
Oh I'm so stealing that.
GoldenDrummer@reddit
Nah I can’t back this level of anger 😂. People just aren’t as tech savvy as others. I was just glad someone said it so another person knows how to google better.
_DeanRiding@reddit
I had no idea you could specify a site like that lol
When I'm looking for some info I'll usually just put "reddit" at the end instead but your way will work fabulously for other things too
emzyyx@reddit
Absolutely life changing! Thank you for the tip 😁
Mr_Kill_Joy@reddit

wut?
QC420_@reddit
Considering there’s over 1200 comments, what’s wrong with creating more discussion? Like every question on reddit could be found by searching google, so what would be the point in reddit? Specifically question-based subs like this. I’m all for it, it’s not like we’re seeing this same question blow up every saturday
alextheolive@reddit
Honestly! The mods should pin a post with a generally agreed upon answer and set automod to delete any more posts like this.
All_within_my_hands@reddit
That along with "speak to them" as the answer to 95% of the questions on here.
Old_Manner_9044@reddit
You are that guy and nobody in the history of ever likes that guy
curiously-peculiar@reddit
Incorrect. I appreciate this comment and like ‘that guy’.
Inside_Sentence_6116@reddit
11 - 12 I'd probably start
LowNectarine834@reddit
One thing I've noticed is that in the UK we seem way more sensitive to noise than anywhere else I've ever stayed. In Spain for instance no one seems to care in the slightest about making noise well into the morning and beyond, and those sleeping don't seem to be disturbed by it. Maybe the secret is to make more noise not less, until we all get used to it!
FuckThaLaw@reddit
Or leave Spain with their cave man ways!
Minginton@reddit
Quite hours stop at 0700, so...0701
Jammiedodger_1985@reddit
10am. I’m up with the birds too with the kids, but others aren’t. Don’t ruin their good long lie-ins lol
Independent-Self-139@reddit
When the grass is free from moisture, either from morning dew, rain, sprinklers, make sure grass is not damp. Prior to mowing
W0otang@reddit
I'm like you with the kids, but I think 10am minimum personally. Not everyone is an early bird like us!
DarkLordTofer@reddit
Not now. In fact probably not until this afternoon. Have a coffee and a chill out.
Affectionate_You_858@reddit
4am sunday
alexrea123@reddit
I'd be really hacked off if a neighbour started mowing the lawn before 10am on a Sunday. Ideally leave it until after 11am.
Playful-Lion5208@reddit
I'd go for 10am or whenever someone else goes before you.0
-usernotdefined@reddit
9am Saturday, 10am Sunday. It's unreasonable to think people don't work Saturday. You start it before 10am on a Saturday though and you're not a gardener... Bit rude.
Big_Wolverine2979@reddit
after 10
luciesssss@reddit (OP)
That seems quite late to me. Is that what time most people are up by?
Starlit-Tortoise@reddit
Mate it’s the weekend, why does it matter when you mow the lawn? Have some compassion many people get up after 9am on a Saturday.
NoodlePenguinn@reddit
Who cares? Stop being a lazy shit. Other peoples lives don’t stop because people want a lie in. People work weekends too and have weekdays off, should we stop doing everything until after 10 so they can also get a lie in? Or does that only work for people who get weekends off?
daynapotter@reddit
People also work nights and shifts , wonder how rude you'd be with more than 4 braincells to rub together
Snoo3763@reddit
All those nurses on shifts. Lazy shits.
MarcoJono@reddit
Something wrong with society when a lay in makes you a lazy shit.
evenstevens280@reddit
No one seems to have any emotional intelligence anymore. It's every person for themselves and fuck everyone else.
l8nitefriend@reddit
It’s called being considerate god damn lol
LondonCycling@reddit
You could say the same about the Monday-Friday workers not being considerate of you having to be at work by 10am on a Saturday so 9am is just the time you have available.
l8nitefriend@reddit
I mean I feel like if it’s possible to be considerate of others (like OP is saying) you should. If it’s really not possible do what you gotta do.
But honestly this is a weird thing to feel so passionately negative about!! Being nice and thinking of those around you costs you nothing!
LondonCycling@reddit
Precisely - so be considerate of your neighbours who might have things to do on a Saturday and mow their grass at 9am while they have the chance :)
l8nitefriend@reddit
I literally just said if you must do that then go ahead, but if you can put it off to let people sleep on a weekend that’s a kind thing to do! I feel like you want to die on this hill so go ahead my friend lol
MisterHandagote@reddit
This lad gets up early. Impressive stuff.
EstatePinguino@reddit
I take it you’d be fine if your neighbour started playing the drums at 2am?
SkinnyErgosGetFat@reddit
That’s the whole premise of this thread question lol, he’s asking when it would inconvenience the least amount of people, not when it’s his right to mow the lawn
sjsosowne@reddit
Roses are red, My pencil is Blunt, Oh dear, I seem to have spotted a cunt!
Significant-Tea8004@reddit
Having a lie in til 10 on a Saturday makes you a “lazy shit”? Get a grip man
somesnazzyname@reddit
Then why not mow at 1 in the morning? Why are you going to bed so early , lazy shit!
zeelbeno@reddit
Literally just the extremely loud stuff like mowing your lawn or drag races
The_Blip@reddit
I mean, I'm assuming it matters because they'd like to get it over with and then use the rest of their day for their enjoyment.
poppalopp@reddit
Yeah, fuck anyone else's enjoyment. They can't possibly do something they enjoy for an hour first, right?
The_Blip@reddit
Well maybe I want quiet in the afternoon, no one should be able to mow their lawn from 12 - 17 either then, else they're selfish!!!1!
It's normal to be up and about at 9am. You don't get to control other people because you want to sleep outside normal sleeping hours.
Your take is so wild. People shouldn't be able to do normal things because someone might not like it? All saturday garden parties have to stop at 8:30pm because I'd like to start winding down for bed, huh?
poppalopp@reddit
Thanks for the irrelevant rant.
I was responding to your literal words:
The_Blip@reddit
Well yes. That's why it matters.
Yeah, fuck anyone else's enjoyment. They can't possibly do wake up an hour earlier, right?
Tarmac_Chris@reddit
Bet you'd bitch and whine if some kids next door were having a party into the night next door. Same logic applies.
MisterHandagote@reddit
Why does this entire thread just feel like “look how early I get up!”?
evenstevens280@reddit
People so devoid of personality that getting up early is all they've got left.
jackandbabe@reddit
Yeah.
I mean, you're a parent. Even if people aren't "lazy" and sleep in, sometimes we're sleeping after being up with a baby or tot. Mine regularly sleeps in until twelve.
I'm not someone to ask people to keep quiet - he's a light sleeper, sometimes neighbours slam a door and he's awake. But my neighbours do know he sleeps late and are kind enough to avoid making noise until they hear that he's awake.
But its a two way thing. He doesn't get enough sleep and he screams all day and annoys them up lmao. Its a blessing is disguise, really. Our old neighbours were deaf as anything and they'd keep him up all night and ignore him screaming throughout the day.
andercode@reddit
Most people like to have a lay in on the weekend... personally, I've just gotten up at 9:40... I'd be pissed if my neighbour started mowing the lawn while I was still asleep / in bed.
GeordieJumper@reddit
I had a lie in till 7:30 it was great. I'd be pissed off at someone cutting the grass before 7. But everyone sleeps till different times, works different shifts etc. Where do you draw the line. Surely 9 is fine
andercode@reddit
I work from home and normally wake up at 8:45, so getting up at 9:45 was the minimum for me. Its just nice to wait until at least 10am
stevethos@reddit
Seems late because you’ve been up for 5 hours with your sex trophy. Full on Karen moment.
HailToTheKingslayer@reddit
If have no plans on the weekend, I get up around 9:30 - 10 am.
During the week I get up 6:15am so a lie in is nice. Though I wear earplugs so I'm covered.
viotski@reddit
Only because you have fucked up kids waking up at 5, it doesn't mean everyone lives your messed up life
jj920lc@reddit
This isn’t late, just because you got up at 5, doesn’t make 10 late. It’s the weekend! Doing it at 8:45 is anti-social imo. What’s the harm in waiting an hour? Is there a particular rush?
TheRookieRobot@reddit
After 9 is fine, best for your mower and the grass if you wait for it to dry a bit though. This is normally between 10-11 for me but if you’ve got places to go and stuff to do then crack on I’d say.
MellonFriend@reddit
Yeah on a weekend I often sleep til 10. I guess it depends if your neighbors have young kids as that would most likely mean they wake up earlier but I think it's fairly common to sleep in til 10ish if you don't have kids
Big_Wolverine2979@reddit
yea
Mordyth@reddit
After 10
oxpoleon@reddit
Legally, between the hours of 7am and 11pm.
Morally, 8:00am to 9:00pm on weekdays and 9:00am to 10:00pm on weekends, if you're asking me.
Arguably later in the morning is better but you also don't want to be mowing in the blazing sun.
ArmpitAnnie@reddit
Looking at it from the lawn’s point of view, you want to make sure all the dew has evaporated but the sun hasn’t been baking it for hours. 10am is a great time and considerate to your neighbours too
OliB150@reddit
Saw my local council workers out at 6:54am today. If I was nearby they’d have a noise complaint in their inboxes before 7am!
GreatScotRace@reddit
I mean technically by law you’re not doing anything wrong
Don’t know why someone would be as much of an arse-wipe to do loud work that can wait an extra hour though
10am or after
UnchillBill@reddit
But I’m a lunatic that gets up at 5 “with the kid” and I’ve completely forgotten that the majority of people don’t get up at 5 on a Saturday!
Crafty_Schedule4540@reddit
I cut lawns for a job, am I supposed to accommodate people that don’t work on Saturdays?
Coraldiamond192@reddit
Just think how many places are open either at 9am or by 9am on a Saturday morning and then I think you can agree mowing at 9am is fine.
GreatScotRace@reddit
are you comparing a business to your neighbour and residential area?
Also not sure what point you’re trying to make, as nowhere in my town except from big corporate businesses (Boots, B&M, etc) opens at 9am on a Saturday…
bizzle81-betting@reddit
Some bellend was out with an angle grinder on my street this morning at 08:30….
as I was trying to quietly crush a cardboard box to avoid disturbing my neighbours 🤦🏼
Dans_Old_Games_Room@reddit
9am onwards, I'd say. 8:30 is acceptable, but the absolute earliest I'd say
pixelunit@reddit
I’ve been up since 7:30 because some fucker across the road decided to loudly twat about in their garage. I would’ve liked to be in bed past 9:30/10. If I were you I’d mow your lawn at 10.
nowyuseeme@reddit
I initially got really worried this was me and you were my neighbour as I was twatting about in my garage with some loud stuff, but then I remembered I'm not an inconsiderate prick and did it after 11:00.
Coraldiamond192@reddit
Sure 7.30 is too early but 9 is fine too. Just think how many others are up and running by 9am anyway. All those shop/cafes etc are all usually by 9am on Saturday if not at 9am.
WeedBoi909@reddit
8AM I think the law is, at least we can fire up tools at 8. However you might not be invited to the next street party 🤣
Greymon955@reddit
12pm
Many_Baker8996@reddit
I enjoy the hum of a lawn mower outside and I have kids so the 9am start wouldn’t bother me… but I think 10 am on weekends is a good universal start time.
bobbyv137@reddit
I think that’s too early. 10am seems fair.
TreeOfAntiquity@reddit
I'm usually up between 4am and 6 am most days including weekends... (im a very bad sleeper since i was a child) I still wouldn't dare using loud tools till after 10:00 on a Saturday and maybe 10:00-10:30 on a Sunday. Its just out of respect to my neighbours. It's pretty much been the neighbour code since as far back as I can remember. Like when my parents would tell me to keep it down when I was a kid, (and like I do to mine now) due to neighbours sleeping etc. Respect your neighbours.... respect is good!
DyFrancis@reddit
Why? People are sleeping in on a Saturday morning. Just do it later
danddersson@reddit
Mow with WHAT?
Hand mower, anytime is fine. Electric mower - 9am. Petrol 4 stroke: afternoons only Two-stroke: NEVER. Burn in HELL!
Solidus27@reddit
10am
Lord_WilliamBlakeney@reddit
9 on a Saturday, 10 on a Sunday
New-account-01@reddit
10am to 6pm
JeniJ1@reddit
After 9am (at the very earliest) and before 6pm (at the very latest).
SnooDoughnuts849@reddit
You're obviously considerate for even asking. The law says 7am to 11pm but as you're asking I'd say 10am to maybe 8pm
ViKtorMeldrew@reddit
11am
DonKobe24@reddit
After noon
Gone_For_Lunch@reddit
How loud is everyone’s lawn mowers that you’re all being woken up by them?
TheRookieRobot@reddit
The amount of people on here that assume anyone wanting to crack on with the day before 10-11am on a weekend is an insensitive miserable a-hole is wild. As long as it’s not anti-social levels of noise or stupid hours, crack on with your lives and leave others alone.
(The one guy saying he’d shank his neighbour for mowing before 9am may want to give his head a wobble.)
TXPython@reddit
I’m planning on getting a push mower so I can mow early/more frequently without being a nuisance to the neighbours
ProfStorm@reddit
Can confirm, from a neighbours perspective, push mowers are the dogs bollocks.
Neighbour across the street mows their lawn at least once a week, always at stupid times, both early and late, and it doesn't bother me in the slightest.
TXPython@reddit
Im guessing they’re mowing it with a push mower?
AttendantofIshtar@reddit
Between the hours of 1000 and 1900.
Big-End-9824@reddit
My neighbour thinks 6am. But maybe knock on your neighbour door and ask what time would I mow the lawn that won’t annoy you? A little bit of consideration goes a long way.
wasianwigger@reddit
How about you leave it to grow into a meadow and then your kid can see some wildlife
Educational-Trifle23@reddit
Never would be ideal
gigglesmcsdinosaur@reddit
Make as much noise as you want at whatever time on a Saturday or Sunday. Sleep is for the week...
King_Rat_Daddy@reddit
I think people got the pub, but just thought it was shit, mate.
lola_britney@reddit
I stick to a rule of loud tools between 10am and 5pm.
Ramscales@reddit
Don’t be an asshole. Even if your neighbors aren’t asleep at 10 am, they are recovering from their week, making and eating breakfast, having sex or whatever and don’t want to hear your loud mower. Wait til at least noon, and preferably mow in the evening instead of the morning.
Bitter-Loan5190@reddit
People round my way often mow early, week days or weekends, no one seems to mind. If it's nice and sunny people are up and about anyways.
BrightSpark80@reddit
I feel your pain! I usually do non-noisy things like weeding until 12pm then get the mower out.
KudaraYT@reddit
To me, whenever you want. It's your garden. If you do get complaints then I would imagine around 10 - 11 AM ish
Stockers93@reddit
Would it be unacceptable for you to receive a sales call? If yes, then I wouldn’t be mowing, if no, crack on… 0900 on a Saturday, 1000 on a Sunday in my view.
Misanthrzpe@reddit
I'd be livid if someone started mowing their garden / lawn at 8:45am, I'm normally up at 5 am myself getting ready for work that I don't finish till 6pm. Saturdays I like to have a lie in until around 10:00.
Earliest I'd say is 10:00
SHN378@reddit
I live next to a Tesco Express who insists on having lorries deliver at 8am every Sunday. Reversing beeps, the slam of a tailgate, the roar of wobbly cage wheels across a metal floor, the staff catching up with the driver. I think a lawn mower going to drown it out would be quite nice.
Ulteri0rM0tives@reddit
5am would have been fine
Mutanik@reddit
Any time after 12 is fair game. I'd say 10 is still too early.
Rbx100@reddit
If you’re neighbours are assholes start at 5am lol
BaRaj23@reddit
Anytime before 10am and your neighbours will hate you
Chrisf1bcn@reddit
You have all day! Till at least 7pm, why when people are trying to get a lie in on the one day of week they can.
taewongun1895@reddit
9:00 is fine. Especially in the American south. Gets too hot later than that. If you can, buy an electric mower. They are a lot quieter so you can mow earlier without complaints.
CarrotFarmer12345@reddit
10 - 11 am I would say
BetaRayPhil616@reddit
9am is fine. Does 10 give you a higher chance of not waking neighbours? Sure, but you are sometimes allowed to put your own schedule first. You'll never make everyone happy. 9am is not that early.
Carinwe_Lysa@reddit
While I'm not too fussed on acceptable, I usually like to start at around 10:30 on a weekend just so it's given the grass some time for the sun to dry it off.
When we've had a gardener though, this guy rocks up at 8AM and starts right away, it's insane!
Dicjfnnrneixicirb@reddit
Any time you want it’s your garden do what you want!
Fluid-Safe-9652@reddit
Why not wait till after lunch. What's hurting you
LaraH39@reddit
It's doesn't really matter when you do it, as long as you do it before noon, for the sake of your grass (personally I'm one of those "Let the wildflowers have it" people).
But for the sake of your neighbors leave it till at least 10-10.30 or.. consider leaving it till much later in the afternoon? 16.00-19.00?
It's much more fun doing a job like that at the day cools down rather than as it warms up.
Alps_Useful@reddit
8.45am, Oh hell no!! I don't care when you woke up, thats just cruel to everyone else around you. 10am minimum on a weekend or prepare to be hated by those trying to sleep.
ImpressiveAttorney12@reddit
Contrastingly, what is the latest appropriate time to mow the grass?
keblin86@reddit
Some mornings I want to do it really early just to pee my neighbours off who seem to keep having social gatherings in the car park area of our street instead of their gardens. Who get drunk and have screaming kids all the way until 11:30pm at night which is unaccetptable!
I don't though, because I respect others and I would never do that no matter how much they pee me off but oh boy, so tempted sometimes.
I used a rule of thumb anything is ok after 8am tbh, construction workers would start work at 7am so...
Still, if u can hold off a bit longer please do lol
jdmackes@reddit
I'm surprised, I was gonna say any time after 8 am would be fine with me, but it looks like everyone says that's way too early...
Stuliex@reddit
You can make noise like mowing from 9am till 11pm but most people are decent and wait till 11ish and stop before 7/8
Satoshiman256@reddit
9:45
RoakWall@reddit
Those who mow the fucking lawn at early hours get a massive shit taken on it at 3am.
darkfight13@reddit
10am to 10pm when it comes to noisy stuff.
Designer-Anybody-542@reddit
Legally, after 7am and before 11pm. Morally, wait till after 10am.
lunarpx@reddit
This is asked every weekend. Surely an electric mower isn't going to wake someone up if they have even half-decent double glazing?
saccerzd@reddit
You sleep with the window closed in summer? I mean, I have mine open all year, but surely everybody has their window open when it's this warm?
theocrats@reddit
I sleep with the windows closed. Bloody cars are loud.
saccerzd@reddit
I used to live above the A14 in East London and car noise was annoying. I still liked the 'fresh' air though so I resorted to earplugs and an open window. (It probably helped slightly that I was 9 stories up as well)
Succulent_Orange@reddit
The "engine" isn't the only noise. Ripping grass is loud, spinning blades smacking into grass is loud
LondonCycling@reddit
Pretty sure the kids next door, who are out playing in the garden by 8am, are louder than a quick round of our lawnmower would.
The_Blip@reddit
Clearly all children should be kept inside till 10am at the earliest. Motorcycles should probably also be banned before 10am. You know what, dogs can be quite loud... Let's just set a nationwide curfew till 10am so people can have a snooze.
saladinzero@reddit
Head out tonight at a minute to midnight with a Flymo and see how well your neighbours respond.
lunarpx@reddit
No one is suggesting midnight, they're suggesting 9am.
saladinzero@reddit
Surely it doesn't matter what time you do it if they have, as you said, half-decent double glazing? Or maybe you now agree that that wasn't true?
CSPVI@reddit
Most people are sleeping with their windows open right now.
Peppemarduk@reddit
By law it's 8am. I wait until 9.
piyopiyopi@reddit
Better for your grass if you do it early evening.
will1565@reddit
10am is fine.
27106_4life@reddit
9am on a Saturday is fine. I think my council says no work before 830, so I'd say realistically 830
weirdybeardo@reddit
9am sat 10am sun
ianbhenderson73@reddit
I think anytime after 9 is probably fair game. I don’t have much grass you’ve got but with the heat we’ve had recently I think you’d want that job done before it gets too hot.
luciesssss@reddit (OP)
I was thinking 9am is probably an acceptable time!
-TheGreatLlama-@reddit
You are right. If people are that tired, they’ll sleep through anyway.
PlayfulTemperature1@reddit
It is. People downvoting you are selfish and if they could, they’d rather not have you make any noise ever. Just lie in bed and be quiet, someone is sleeping somewhere.
Next_Bookkeeper_4550@reddit
Why ? You wanting some ? If you’re wantin some , I’ll give it to ya.
ScotForWhat@reddit
It is. Reddit is just full of grumpy teenagers that lie in till mid afternoon.
FuckThaLaw@reddit
No. After 10am.
534nndmt@reddit
Not to everyone downvoting you 😄
ianbhenderson73@reddit
The problem is, there’s always going to be someone that moans about it. As someone who works 9-5(ish) during the week and has a young family, 9am is perfectly acceptable on a Saturday morning. Any earlier is (in my view) too early and as I said in my original response you don’t want to start too late because if it’s as warm today as it’s been, you really don’t want to be working outdoors in the midday sun.
JW162000@reddit
9am is too early. 10, or even 11
Next_Bookkeeper_4550@reddit

I grew up in Texas. You had to mow at 9 am in the summer or the heat was downright brutal. Those (like me) that enjoyed sleeping in just had to learn to deal with it.
Acceptable-Floor-265@reddit
Bad enough in Cornwall, we have to walk the dog around it or pavement is no use on the way to the beach/coastal path as its too hot and carrying a medium sized dog gets boring after a while.
Figure its about the same for mowing but I got a push mower anyway cos I was fed up with fixing electrical nonsense or dealing with mowers so its basically irrelevant so can do it whenever.
jNushi@reddit
Yea on weekends it’s 9:30/10am or 7pm here during summer in the south. Someone was saying wait until 2pm. Not trying to die out here
Succulent_Orange@reddit
Good thing the UK isn't in Texas
Aaaaaagh@reddit
I agree.
ianbhenderson73@reddit
I’m in Scotland, where summers can rarely be described as brutal. But these past few weeks we’ve had next to no rain (in itself very unusual) although last night we had a half-assed attempt at a thunderstorm.
I’ve never been to Texas although I have been in Georgia in the height of summer and remember all too well just how hot it was even at mid morning. I’ve also been in Vegas in September and remember venturing out very briefly at around 10am and lasting about five minutes.
Unhappy_Nothing_5882@reddit
Too early
Dry_Preference9129@reddit
8am weekdays and 9am weekend is where I'd have it.
I work in construction and most building sites will apply a noise curfew until 8am, which works fine.
The one that moans about 9am is the jackass who had music blaring until 2am, like everyone was invited to their karaoke garden party.
Wububadoo@reddit
Jackass, or night shift workers.
Dry_Preference9129@reddit
Jackass.
Go to work at 2am - after a party? Drunk and stumbling around, singing Sweet Caroline for the nth time?
Sounds like typical night shift work.
Wububadoo@reddit
As a night shift worker who was tired when I read that, I though you said anyone who complains about 9am is a jackass, my bad.
ImCaptainRedBeard@reddit
On the flip side of this, whats the latest?
MyNewBearTotoro@reddit
Doing anything before 9 am that disturbs other people (without their consent) is always a no-no in my book unless completely unavoidable. But to be considerate to all your neighbours I agree to wait until at least 10am.
LordPaperBag@reddit
Council worker mowed the verge of the by road behind my house the other morning at 6am. Mother fucker had ear defenders on. Considering he was by a residential neighbourhood that shit should have waited until at least 10am.
SportTawk@reddit
Anytime after 8am is okay
BohemianGamer@reddit
Any time after 10, some of us like a lay in on the weekend
MissDisplaced@reddit
I think after 8am is ok. That is not that early, though some may say so. It also makes sense if it’s hot.
Drop_The_Puck@reddit
Is this a euphemism?
KoffieCreamer@reddit
Assert your dominance over the entire street. Mow it at 6am
RelapseJunkie85@reddit
8:45 is a pricks time to mow the lawn. 10:00 earliest!!
IntermediateFolder@reddit
Depends how loud is your mower but definitely not a 8:45. The earliest I’d do it would be around 10.
Felonious_Buttplug_@reddit
mow whenever is convenient for you. Noise cancelling ear buds are a thing for anyone that bitches.
Digital_Moocher@reddit
10am or after lunch if the curtain check fails. I personally don’t make any outdoor noise until at least then and most in my street don’t either. But there’s alway one or two miserable cunts that have a shitty life so everyone else has to suffer, like the bloke across the road, who at 0645 on a rainy Saturday morning, vacuumed his car in his dressing gown for 2hrs or at just before midnight on a Sunday was disc cutting paving slabs. I’m guessing him and his wife don’t get on. He once got out of a cab after two weeks holiday dumped the cases on the step and left them for his wife to drag in, whilst he started vacuuming the boot space of his car before even going in the house.
Then there’s the retarded bloke, who likes playing with cement mixers, he just shovels gravel in and watches it go round and round from as early as 8am. Clang, clunk, clang, clunk. He also somehow broke his wheelie bin and tried to cut it up with a jigsaw to recycle it. That didn’t make a horrific noise at all.
Or the bloke that pressure washes everything, every weekend on the concrete setting, either early doors or just as you start eating your BBQ in the garden. Or, after you’ve spent the afternoon cleaning your car, he cuts up paving bricks to pave the inside of his garage, leaving your car dusty as fuck. The only pay off here was he’s got a fairly tall jacked up old landrover, that now doesn’t fit in the garage as the floor is too high. Twat!
When I win the lottery im gonna buy a house with no neighbours for at least a mile. If anyone wants to give me £3mil though, feel free, there’s one locally that will save my sanity, pretty please.
(And the fucking neighbour has just fired up his petrol leaf blower for his postage stamp garden and it’s not even autumn arrgghhhh. Must be beer time)
Logicdon@reddit
Never mow the lawn. Get the wife to do it.
ClogsInBronteland@reddit
10am and later in the weekends. People had a whole week of work. Let them have a lie in before being annoying with noises.
Coraldiamond192@reddit
Plenty of people are also up and in work by 9am on weekends so I would say 9am is fine, on a Saturday.
Adaml1983@reddit
These are the rules. 9am Saturday 10am Sunday
SupremeFlamer@reddit
I'm a DJ. I work Friday and Saturday nights at get home about 7am, eat something, watch TV until about 8 and then try to sleep. I just have to deal with the noise at weekends.
I don't mind lawnmowers much, the low hum doesn't affect me. It's the random one-hit noises; dropping the wheelie bin lid too hard, neighbours back door slamming shut, footballs being booted against fences, kids screaming violently as if they're being murdered etc. That's what I can't stand. But I choose to work nights when 99% of working people don't.
BigGingerTed@reddit
Just remember when there is a party nearby one night and you're annoyed that they woke your kid. Karma is out there.....

Paddy_Cromwell@reddit
9am seems reasonable for noisy jobs outside on a weekend. People can wear earplugs if they want to lay in bed all morning.
amatelsengineer@reddit
Just don't wait till 10pm to do it. I couldn't care less if someone was mowing their lawn at 8am but god help them if they wake my kid up at night with a misfiring petrol lawnmower.
fotherted@reddit
My neighbour plays loud music in his garden til gone midnight, I mow when I want

EugeBanur14@reddit
Legally 8:00 but I guess on the weekend it would be a bit harsh, I’d say 10 but I normally wait until midday to do anything loud. It is a bit annoying when you have been up for seven hours and you’re just itching to get going though!
Freeedoom@reddit
If you were my neighbour and mow the lawn at 8.45 on a Saturday morning. I would be Fuck Off just go to bed, whats wrong with you. But would never complain or shout at you. I would be upset, have a bad day and never show that to you. I would crawl in my existential pain on my own.
If you wait till afternoon, you might wake another neighbour up and they would feel the same way I do.
The good thing is, it is not your business what I or anyone else thinks. You can't make everyone happy and be content with your life.
Enjoy your weekend neighbour.
ArseHearse@reddit
I wouldn't care if my neighbours did it anytime after 0800. Truthfully I wouldn't really care after 0730. But after 0800, it's reasonable to make loud noises I guess.

So I do it at 1pm..if it's grass cutting day chances are there's other things I want to do also so do your indoor work in the morning, get your shopping in or whatever else you want to do. Have some lunch then cut the crass after mid day.
epicpillowcase@reddit
Ugh yeah please don't be the person your neighbours hate. Wait a bit.
Hefty_Fortune_8850@reddit

completely acceptable , it is your fucking house. As a kid our neighbor was up at right after dawn doing it, never bothered me, it's his right to do as he wants on his land, and he worked 3rd shift and need to get in done and get to sleep so he had to deal with everyone making noise during his sleep time.

I'd say 10am is equal to 9pm
I'd say 11am is equal to 8pm
I'd say 12am is equal to 7pm
You are clearly a morning person, have a look at the chart above and decide what you'd be comfortable at the other end of the day and then look up what people who NEED to sleep later would appreciate.
Undd91@reddit
Honestly 8am, did mine this morning at that time. I have neighbours who have landscapers in who mow at 6:30am on a Saturday.
IAmAshley2@reddit
Never, I’ve been working night shifts this week and it’s so hard to sleep in the day when it’s 30 degrees and everybody is mowing 😅 least I’m done with that now though!

I’ve got 2 days a week to get all my shit done One of those days is Sunday where noise laws say I shouldn’t do anything noisy (though 10am seems fine)
So Saturday is my only day to get the chores done. I’ll start at 8am as per noise laws if I have to, people can lie in Sunday.
I leave it as late as possible, but it is what it is. Got to get stuff done
GoldKey5185@reddit
For me I wouldn't want to be cutting my lawn before 9am, and if it's hot, I would wait until 5pm+. I would judge it on if there is movement from my neighbours, if both sides of me are up and have been in their garden then I'll cut the grass.

Check with your local council. In my area it is after 8am I think. If people think that is rude (to mow lawns then within council guidelines) they shouldn't live in an area surrounded by neighbours. I personally wouldn't do it till after 10am, but I wouldn't begrudge somebody doing it earlier. I had a neighbour running a chainsaw the other night after 10pm.. now that I considered rude!

Not what you asked. But ditch your gas mower for a battery one. They are much less annoying to listen to. Possibly then you could push it a little earlier.
ConnorHMFCS04@reddit
Anytime after 10 on a weekend is probably fair I'd say. Personally, if I'm wanting a lie in on a Saturday morning, I sleep no later than 10 so that's kind of how I base it. Within reason.
As an aside, somebody was out cutting their grass at 9pm on my estate on a Sunday night a few weeks back. Start of May I think and it was pretty cloudy all day so wasn't even that light. Weird behaviour if you ask me that one.

9am - 9pm fair game for pretty much anything on the weekends imo. Then before or after that there's some sort of gradual sliding scale as to what noisy activities are acceptable. And even then there are exceptions. We have a bloody cockerel down the road from us, but I don't feel our neighbours shouldn't be allowed to keep chickens just because it wakes me up at 5am quite often. Same for bin men. Legally I think its 8am Mon Fri 9am sat and 10am Sunday, I'll check, tbf I wait till 930am but same neighbours who moan don't mind partying until4am with zero thought for anyone but themselves !
Dry-Post8230@reddit
Well checked and it varies but it's generally 8 to 6 weekdays 8 to 1 Saturdays and no work Sundays.
backcountry57@reddit
We don't have neighbors that close but so any time after 7:30 here, in a urban area I would say 8:00
Alarming-You1703@reddit
I mow the lawn late afternoon. That's when it's mostly in the shade.
DrH1983@reddit
That makes sense, but what if the garden gets shade in the morning?
Alarming-You1703@reddit
It's not just the shade. it's slightly cooler, plus most of my neighbours have had enough sunbathing, so I'm not disturbing their peace and quiet.
pullingteeths@reddit
It's not cooler. Look at any weather forecast, it's the hottest part of the day.
DrH1983@reddit
I find my backyard gets warmer throughout the day. I could wait until 9pm when it starts to feel cooler but that's too late for me to be fannying about with yard work.
Alarming-You1703@reddit
Back to OP's question, I'd say round about the 10am mark would be acceptable. If your yard is cooler in the morning, i would definitely do it at that time, and then it also free's up the rest of your day once that chore is out of the way.
dutchcourage-@reddit
Just do it in the afternoon I’m sure there are other things to keep you busy
pullingteeths@reddit
It's very hot by the afternoon. There's nothing wrong with mowing the lawn in the late morning at all. Plenty of other noise going on by that time in most places anyway.
Self_Sabatour@reddit
5pm, after the sun gets low.
lovetraverse@reddit
It's 8 a.m., all of my neighbors are retired, and i can hear a lawn mower down the street. I wouldn't have really paid attention, but I was scrolling and noticed this post. What I found most interesting is that I’m in the US, and all of the posts seem to prove UK citizens are much more respectful.

If you have reservations then wait until you don't. It doesn't kill you to mow the lawn a little later in the day. You personally think there's issues so you personally have answered your question.

IntroductionNormal70@reddit
If your neighbors don't wish to be awake, they can wear earplugs. It's presumably your property, or rented space, do as you wish. If there is a noise ordinance, that is the only legality you need concern yourself with.
chrismiller75@reddit
I think noon is fair to both sides. Early risers and night owls. I used to work 3rd shift it's rough getting woke up when u just fall asleep.. tbh most people who works nights can't come home and go to sleep they stay up til 9-10am some even later than that.. Not all night owls are up partying.. I am now day person. I understand both sides!
Ray_Spring12@reddit
9.01am is the official start to mowing.
Emergency_Mistake_44@reddit
How big are the gardens near all of these 9am is a piss take people? I live in a flat now but previously, my neighbour would mow the grass around 9am on a Saturday and would be done within 15-20 mins. And that's maybe 2 or 3 Saturdays across the summer, it's not like he did it weekly.
Some of the replies here make mowing a presumably modest lawn at 9am sound like day long pneumatic drilling at 6am. It's definitely easier for you to buy ear plugs if YOU want a lie in than expecting people to hold off on things they need/want to do with their own weekends.
Speaker_Character@reddit
There's a real arrogance to the attitude "Everyone should be up by 9am".
I would wait til 11am out of consideration for other people!
BCS24@reddit
After 11 or after you first hear someone else mowing. If someone else is mowing then you are good to go regardless of what time it is. But if you're the first to mow and you start before 11 then you're a bit of a dick

What time to mow the grass is your way of saying what time can I make a loud noise mowing grass.
Simple....9am+
Mowing Weekdays...people are at work by 9am....no one to distract.
Mowing Weekends...people are up by 9am too (majority of people are up by habit)
Anyone sleeping in is a minority...you can ignore them (unless they come out to complain...the you tell them on Ur property you do what you like....its 9am+ the world doesn't sleep in just because they did!)
FearX91@reddit
Jeez I wish folk in my estate would consider this. 10am on weekends in my opinion, unfortunately there is one clown near me who starts at 8am no matter if its during the week or weekend, and he recently done it on a bank holiday too. Once he starts others do too, its madness.
Atschmid@reddit
In the US, many towns have noise ordinances. So no leaf blowers, lawn mowers, edge trimmers, construction work before 7AM usually. I personally hate it when the neighbor across the road starts chainsawing and hammering nails at 8 AM, almost every day for the last three years.
When it comes to lawn mowing, I generally find that grass is too wet to mow before 10 or 11 in the morning. Maximum heat of the day is at 4 or so in the afternoon. So I usually start at 10 and go till 2. I do this twice, as I have a push mower and a huge lawn.
Ramshackle_Biped@reddit
Its between 7am and 11pm are the open hours for noise, crack on mate its only a lawnmower! I had to deal with builders while working nights and it's just life.

Reading the comments is making me realize how much of a dick the average person is.
Why 9-11?? The grass can wait until 12+, no need to potentially disturb anyone's sleep - of course most people should be up by 10ish but no one wants to hear a constant loud ass noise right after waking up. It's a dick move. Don't be a dick.

Just do it in the afternoon, are you sat watching your clock, waiting for a certain time on a Saturday?
Go out for the day, mow it at like 6pm Or do it after lunch. Why are you waiting to figure out exactly when it ticks over from being a nob into just being annoying?
Cannonball236@reddit

Knightfall_O66@reddit
Think as long as its not before 8am your fine something to do with noise like how construction equipment doesn't start up till 8 in residential areas
jimjam9791@reddit
Most lawns are wet from Dew in the morning, I wait till the lawn is dry, usually 11, I live in the countryside, we have farmers rolling around @8 on tractors and that’s fine! Neighbours tend to start around 9, I work night shift sometimes, I just put my AirPods in and go back to sleep
Sakura149@reddit
Dew, wet stuff that appears at night even if it doesn't rain I'll guess from the context.
jimjam9791@reddit

doggsy@reddit
My neighbours have friends round shouting for them to open the door at all times of day and night. Constantly have late night shouting matched, parties that go on until the early hours on week nights.
I cut my grass when I want
oojiflip@reddit
I would be annoyed to be woken up at 10 if I was having a lie in but could live with it, 11 I'd be grateful
MowelShagger@reddit
i’s say later the better but anytime after 9 is fine. not saying nobody could conceivably still be in their bed at that time but it’s not a ridiculous time to be doing it
LowResponsibility374@reddit
No point in mowing much before 9:30 at mine, the grass is still dewy till then , but it gets done when I can fit it in, if I have to go to work Sat lunchtime, then it gets cut at 9, or it won’t get done.
Eddie182@reddit
I’d say anything after 8 is all good, after 9 if you want to be extra considerate. Most people will be getting up after a lie in around then anyway. The only people you could wake up beyond that who would care are teenagers (either physically or mentally).
Rocking_Fossil@reddit
It's 8:45am on the weekend ya knobhead, don't be cutting the grass when people are resting.
Rodolpho55@reddit
I tend not to do it on Sunday.
charlie_boo@reddit
Whenever I do any DIY / Gardening etc I make sure anything noisy is between 10am-7pm whatever day it is.
Whulad@reddit
Think anytime after 9 is ok
DarylStenn@reddit
So actually between 10-12 is the optimal time to mow the lawn anyway, regardless of neighbours, it’s best time for your grass, it’s late enough in the morning that any dampness/ mildew from the night before has dried up whilst still early enough that the grass won’t be too hot to cut.
Having said that, I work around my sons schedule and that gives me a 9ish window every Sunday to mow the lawn and so I do. Fuck my neighbours.
Bearcorey@reddit
As a builder we have to start with loud tools early regularly on a Saturday, the law allows it earlier than you’d think as well but Sunday is different. If we are doing jobs on our own houses like an extension at one of the lads houses right now we try and start at 9
bertiethebastard@reddit
Long time gardener here. Never before 10am. Like lots of others I'm a night person, no kids.if you wanna mow by 9am, I wanna play my music till 2am. Wanna be neighbour's?
xavierfinn@reddit
Play your music all you want. Your house/garden. Idgaf.
Alot of Karen's and Kevin's in this comment section that sound like they'd cry the second someone turns a mower on at 09:59
Previous-Wallaby6571@reddit
Gardeners are out at 8am mowing and strumming during the height of summer to make sure they get through all the customers in day
bertiethebastard@reddit
Usually only for commercial gardening. No homeowner wants anybody in their garden at 8am. I've been a gardener since the 70s
Previous-Wallaby6571@reddit
Don't know what to tell you friend. I'm out from 6am for work and I see and hear the cutters out everyday at 8am in the summer. The bin lorry is around earlier than that and it's the loudest fucker in the world.
praf973@reddit
Evening cut would kinder to your lawn
liambell1606@reddit
I’ve done a lot of scrolling and can’t see what I think the correct answer is.
Be sociable and find out about your neighbours. I used to live next door to a couple, one of whom was a nurse that regularly worked nights. When living there, I wouldn’t cut the grass at 0845. Right now, I’ve got young families/children on either side and I know there is zero chance they’re still asleep, so I’d be ok to crack on.
Ld_Vetinari@reddit
Any time from 0900 on a Saturday is fine. I would hold off until 10 on a Sunday and 0800 during the week. Then probably no later than 2100 on an evening.
Puzzleheaded-Cow4320@reddit
Would you call the neighbours at this time? If you wouldn’t phone then you shouldn’t now. Working in a pharmacy my general rule for phoning a customer is leave it to after 10:30. Even if they have a lie in and you wake them it’s not that early.
xavierfinn@reddit
After sunrise.
AlgaeFew8512@reddit
I'd be annoyed at 9am but I'd accept it. 10am is better. Although at around 7pm the air has cooled down and you might prefer that. Before 9am seems rude.
ProfStorm@reddit
9am-7pm weekdays 10am-7pm weekends... but you'd still be an asshole if you did it before noon.
Ok-Bag3000@reddit
Can we just have a Reddit-wide ban on this question. Everytime it comes up it is painfully obvious that everyone has a different idea of what time is acceptable and what isn't. It also seems for most people that if you disagree with their opinion on time then you're automatically an inconsiderate asshole of a neighbour.
DoricEmpire@reddit
In theory you can do it after 7 with no legal pushback.
However at my last house, one neighbour would do it on 7 every 2 weeks on the dot, whatever the weather. It was a 4-block and it annoyed the rest of us no end. Please don’t do it that early.
Fast-Calligrapher112@reddit
The best time is probably during the evening. You will def piss people off by trying to mow the grass during the morning especially during weekends because people usually sleep in
Psychological-Hawk65@reddit
Builders could start at 8am. Personally I'd start at 9am, but you are fully entitled to use power tools from 8am
Old-Usual-8387@reddit
I mean technically you can mow your lawn anytime between 7am and 11pm. That’s not to say you won’t have some pissy neighbours though. I wouldn’t care though I’m up at 5 for work. And on my days off I sleep like a rock so you’d do well to wake me.
zog9077@reddit
Do it first thing after lunch
Fowlnature@reddit
Lurker here to learn how the other half lives. I am surprised by the percentage of people who agree that after 9am is the polite time to start. I say late because here in the US, if it’s after 7am, people do what they want generally based on local ordinances. Just very few people are up this early. Is the politeness about noise level because in the uk your houses are closer together? Or maybe you guys don’t have the “I’ll do what I want on my land” mentality or what people would call selfishness?
Chev--Chelios@reddit

Anytime from 8 on a saturday, not at all on a sunday. I follow the same guidance for loud house chore like mowing (or hoovering in an apartment) as apply to building works.
Some local authorities define other periods, sometimes starting at 9 or 10, so check where you live.
I don’t want to be out in the heat mowing, and the evening is for winding down and doing quite things.

I once had a neighbour mow their front lawn at 5:30 am on a weekday. I'd say 8:45am is a little early, 10am seems reasonable.
That being said, the people kicking off about mowing your lawn at 9am are going a little over the top IMO. Them having a lie in does not mean that the rest of the world has to put their plans on hold.
LibertyIAB@reddit
I think 10am is fair to allow people their maybe only 1 lie in a week. Then if you did get moans you could tell them nicely to fuck off.

Albertjweasel@reddit
My neighbour works nights, he comes home from work at 6 in the morning and leaves again about 7 or 8 pm, when our old electric flymo burnt out I thought about this and bought a rotary push mower as it’s quieter, if you’ve got a small lawn these are a good option, cheap to buy and more environmentally friendly, no one likes the noise of lawnmowers at any time of the day, maybe just leave the lawn to go wild? You’ll get all sorts of insects and wildflowers in there and in this weather mowing your lawn will just kill the grass so you’ll just end up with a horrible yellow desert

volster@reddit
Personally i'd say 10-ish is when it reaches the point where you can't really be that put-out over it but .... It being thing which happens in the afternoons would be favorite IMO.
Make an activity of it! - Mow the lawn, have a BBQ, sit about outside with some music on enjoying the rare sunshine ... If you're lucky enough to have a garden worth speaking of - Have at it with abandon!
Still regardless of whether you're perfectly entitled to or not - These are the people you have to live side by side with - It's kinda a dick-move if getting your jollies comes at the expense of spoiling someone else's day off.
I don't think there's any real hard and fast rule of when it becomes acceptable beyond just "please be considerate".
If everyone in your immediate area happens to be morning people - Have at it.
If you're fucking with peoples lives such that you find yourself receiving curtain side-eye, or someone outright comes and asks if you could just... Not - You might be perfectly within your rights but... Why antagonize the Neighbours?

I mean, it'd be courteous to wait until maybe 9 or 10, but there are replies here from people who are going to be angry no matter what time you choose, and roll out the gallows if you don't consider every shift worker on every shift that ever shifted. I think it's their pent up anger that's keeping them awake, not any nearby lawnmowing.

Nine is fine.
fastestman4704@reddit
After 10 at a push, ideally after noon
stiletto929@reddit
I would say any time after 8 am. Yes, people want to sleep in, but the longer you wait the hotter it gets. 8 is a fair compromise.
Key-Half1655@reddit
Whenever the dew has lifted its fine to cut the grass
basicallytrue@reddit
Doctors, nurses, ambulance drivers, firemen, police officers, factory workers, hospitality staff all work shifts. There are also people who work extremely physical jobs, and need a lie in on weekends for their bodies to recover.
Mowing the lawn at 9am is just as selfish and anti social as blasting music at 10pm.
Also this time of year everyone keeps their windows open. Why wake up your neighbours who fancy a Saturday lie in?
Plus the best way to mow the lawn is with a beer, so wait until the afternoon.
Even asking this question just screams main character syndrome.
sned777@reddit
Here near Finsbury Park the council were out at 8am drilling the pavement to replace some parking signs, so go for it whenever I reckon is the message.
Miserable_Special_73@reddit
Any time you like. Crack on.
Arge101@reddit
Mow it anytime after 10am.
Okay there are loads of ‘what about this’ and ‘what about that’ but you can come up with all sorts of excuses. Or you can just cut the grass.
What about night workers? Well my mom was a night worker, got home at 9 and slept until 2. Are you gonna not cut the grass all day in case someone is asleep?
Gardeners suggest best time for the grass and for your own exertion levels is between 8am and 10am. Just go do it.
Nine_Eye_Ron@reddit
Mon-Sat anything from 8:30AM, less noisy work from 07:30.
Sunday, give people a good morning off and leave it till 11.
InRainbows183@reddit
No 8:45 isnt bloody acceptable whats wrong with you
SuspiciousRiffery@reddit
I definitely wouldn't start doing anything remotely loud until gone 10am. I'd probably leave it until the afternoon.
Money_Gate_8197@reddit
How big is the lawn I guess? 8.45 seems okay to me. If I was pissed off id just get out of bed, don’t see the problem.
BruiserBrodyGOAT@reddit
I’ll go from 0700 if it needs done. I have kids and live an active life. If my neighbours have garden parties until 0000 I don’t complain, I accept that we’re different. This is how adulting works.
GrandOccultist@reddit
What are your neighbours schedules? If they are your 9-5 mon fri type then I’d say around 9am on the weekend is fine. If they are shift workers or something just come off night shift etc, dif story and we can’t answer that for you. Go with what feels right for you and be open to a kind “hey could you mow later on Saturday cause I finish a 700hr shift on Saturday morning”

Personally, I wouldn't want to make any kind of noise disturbance before at least 10am on a weekend. You have a kid so you know what it's like to miss out on sleep. Let those poor bastards have another couple hours. :)

8.30 is fine for an electric, 10am for a petrol imo.
llamasncheese@reddit
I mean you could do it from like 9 and that would be acceptable, but, your neighbours would still prefer you not do it until after midday
RegretEasy8846@reddit
After 9am
hanzarun@reddit
Seems like 10.00am is the general consensus. I think the community that you live in makes a difference. For me, I used to mow the lawn about 8am on weekends, even earlier in summer. Neighbours were fine with that. But since moving to a townhouse with no lawn, no mowing will ever get done again.
No_Anybody_4529@reddit
This gets asked every week haha.
Discofabricator@reddit
Simple and short answer is no. Unless you don't mind me playing loud music past an acceptable time, don't mow at a ridiculous time.
Independent-Chair-27@reddit
Another thought. If you live in countryside farmers work all hours around harvest time. This make a lot of noise some times very early. Empty grain trucks and combines in fields and on the roads. My mower is nothing in comparison
Justthisguy_yaknow@reddit
Midday and up. No time is perfect (although a nice quiet electric mower would extend your hours) but for most people that aren't shift workers midday is a good upper limit IMHO. If you are still complaining after that you are really pushing your luck. Let people have their mornings on a weekend. It's only civil.
andreeeeeaaaaaaaaa@reddit
Maybe 10 or 11... Some poor fucker might have been on nights.
BigGrinJesus@reddit
Mowing the lawn isn't loud enough to really disturb a sleep in, is it? It sounds like white noise anyway. I've never been bothered by it.
BarnacleAnxious9248@reddit
I think it depends on your neighbours. We live in a neighbourhood where 90% of people are retired but also very early risers. There's an unwritten rule of no outside noise before 8am and really noisy stuff after 9. Everyone is happy with that because we can get our chores done and then enjoy our day
Joji_Narushima@reddit
8:30am is fine IMO, I don't see why it needs to be 10am because unless you're going to bed at 2-3am you've gotten at least 7 hours of sleep most likely.
Similar argument with nightworkers, if you've been working all night then you're still gonna be asleep at 10am.
As a UK resident I'm up until 5-6am when I stay up to watch a UFC PPV, if my neighbor mows his lawn the next morning I don't complain to him because I'm still in bed, that would be an outrageous take.
totesboredom@reddit

Why ask this on Reddit? This place is a homing point for those that love to complain or that have weird views often not shared in the real world.
Cut your grass at a time you feel is reasonable whilst being considerate to others.
You're not going to be able to account for everyone. People commenting about "night shift workers" or the like are just examples of people that prefer you do nothing.
tipytopmain@reddit
10am onwards should be "no qualms" territory. A lot of people might still be in bed at 8am on saturday recovering from a late friday night session of leisurely activities.
Great-Sheepherder859@reddit
From 9am. It's still fairly early, but not inconsiderately so. I used to love a good lie in, I could lie in bed til well after lunch but now I'm in my 40s my back and bladder are having none of it.
Independent-Chair-27@reddit
My neighbour works shifts. I don’t so I’m probably annoying him when I mow the lawn at 13.00 or whatever. I think anything past 8 is ok really. At this time folks working in shops will be up and driving to work so there is noise around.
I often mow the lawn at around 7.30 basically when my kids are going to bed. Then they’re not messing about while I mow the lawn.
ChessNewGuy@reddit
Is Cut the grass the only thing you have to do today? If no then do everything else first
Lessarocks@reddit
I always leave noisy things until 10. Most of my neighbours work Mon- Friday and probably want to sleep longer at the weekend. I know I did before I retired.
jimmybiggles@reddit

Acceptable is any time after 9ish, like no one has a right to complain, 9am is a totally normal time for someone to be getting on with their day on a weekend, I'd argue earlier, like 8 30 (even as someone who loves sleeping in), but the later the better for everyone else as people do like to sleep in or night shift etc. But if you consider everyone and everything then you'll never get anything done, just try not to be a dick!

9am but only if your really busy for the rest of the day so can't do it at any other time. Otherwise 10am as for alot of people Saturday mornings are a time to sleep in abit.
If my neighbour woke me up at 9am mowing the lawn then was sat chilling at 11am I'd be kinda pissed of.
designandconquer1@reddit
OMG, I am having flashbacks of when I worked nights and my neighbor would use the loudest hedge trimmer you have ever heard and he would use it every other day. Then our housing decided to redo the outside of our housing with cladding and they would start at 8am. I ended up with insomnia it was that bad.
I think 10am is a fair one as it gives those night staff the extra few hours to get food and go to bed.
Steelhorse91@reddit

sjw_7@reddit
9am has always been the start time for when its acceptable to mow the lawn. No idea where this 10am crap has come from. The vast majority of people are up and about by 9 so I don't tend to worry about the minority of seemingly light sleepers who are still out of it at that time. In reality it tends to be later start than this but occasionally when necessary it will be from 9.
If I knew my neighbour has been working a night shift I would do it later. However I am not telepathic and if the chap three doors down that I have never spoken to had just climbed into bed after a hard nights work I have no way of knowing.
BlueBloodMurder@reddit
Noise complaints are accepted between 11pm and 7am. Everything else is fair game and people in this thread saying otherwise are simply wrong. Courteousness extends to 8am only I'd say.

LondonCycling@reddit
"Having words" with someone for cutting their grass after 9am, come on.
What about the people who have to be in work from 10am on a Saturday and that's the only time to cut the grass?
Such a 9-5 Mon-Fri centric view.
TheDisagreeableJuror@reddit
In reality I don’t have words. I put a pillow over me head, groan and try to go back to sleep. Like with the aforementioned 9am (last week 8am) driller. I worked shifts for years so I get it. But right now I’m not down with being woken on my one lie in a week, when I’ve not had one for a decade.
The_Blip@reddit
It's hilarious to me. Imagine expecting people to tip toe around you for almost the entire morning. Maybe OP wants to get the chores done by 10am and go out for the day with their family, then come back and relax in the evening?
9am is perfectly reasonable, even if some people find it inconvenient.

It's not your job to babysit every one in the world. As long as it's a reasonable time, which 9am is a decent time. No idea who hasn't had a lie in by 9am btw. I start work at 08:30 5 days a week so I have to get up at 06:30 to get our child and myself ready for school/work and have a leisurely breakfast so I would say most working class people are well and truly having a lay in past 6-7 am in the morning and my commute is only 20 mins so many people will be earlier than my wake up.
TLDR - Be reasonable, which you are and remember humans alway moan no matter what.
MarketCrache@reddit
When I was working in a bank, one of the senior executives told me a story about when she was expating in Switzerland. Just after she moved in to the house, she took out the lawn mower on the Sunday to cut the backyard grass. As soon as she started the motor her neighbour came out of her house running towards her frantically waving her arms over her head and shouting, "Nein! Nein! Nein!" She shut off the mower and the neigbour told her that she would be arrested by the police if she didn't stop immediately. She thought the woman was bonkers but was told the next day in the office that it's true...

Legally you can make as much noise as necessary after 7am. There's no standard for a morally correct time because everyone works different shifts. GiovanniVanBroekhoes@reddit
I think anytime after 10am is fine. I realize this might disturb people doing nightshifts, but if you were to take every person into account you would never mow your lawn. If you say after 12, what about people with newborns who have a sleep in the early afternoon. Or people who for whatever reason nap in the afternoon. The old adage works "You can please some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time. But you can't please all of the people all of the time."

Fair. My street is full of noisy cunts so if I make some noise one a month for 20 mins whatever is my view.
Unhappy_Nothing_5882@reddit
10 or 11 - 11 if you want to be nice
But anyone saying 9am lacks social grace/awareness
mr-insano@reddit

Go for it whenever you please. I've got double glazing. I'll just shut my windows.

elmachow@reddit
Noisy building work is usually 8am on a Saturday
Beneficial_Tie_7252@reddit
Haha I was going to ask that. I decided to wait till 10.30 also I can hear someone else doing it
Gremlin303@reddit
Don’t be a prick
bawbaggerr@reddit
If you're my neighbour, about 7 in the morning.
whiskeejo@reddit
Yeah my neighbour says 8.30 Sunday morning.
ellisellisrocks@reddit
9am Is when you go out side and walk round the garden with a cup of tea staring at the hedgerows and plants and going *Ahhhhhh* this lets your neighbours know at 10 he be mowin.
danja@reddit
I have an extremely noisy neighbour, often starts around 7 - strimmer, tractor, leaf blower. I prefer to get up around 10am. But I don't complain, he's always ready if I need a favour. Also he has to work funny shifts, his available time is odd.
But I'd say - just do it on Sat/Sun afternoon, or whenever else you're free later in the day. It's always going to be too early for someone, but no point in asking for trouble.
Sharp_Onion_5319@reddit
12 and no earlier. Have some respect for graveyard shift workers.
xRokai@reddit
6am til 11pm. They can be angry but those are the noise times without being classed as a nuisance neighbour.
ComadoreJackSparrow@reddit
Any time you want. It's a free country, and you're a private citizen mowing your private lawn on your property.
arc4angel100@reddit
Your neighbours hate you.
ComadoreJackSparrow@reddit
No they don't.
seasonaldiamond@reddit
Most areas have local bylaws that state what times you can and can’t mow the lawn, look those up with your local council then you know for the future and no one then has grounds to complain
Jamieb284@reddit
Surely everyone knows by now the unwritten rule of 10:00. This question is probably the most asked question on this sub.
AnxiouslyPessimistic@reddit
To me 9am seems the right answer. Big standard start of a work day etc applied to housework
Old_Manner_9044@reddit
You are allowed to be noisy from 8am so just go for it
tom_b3rt@reddit
8.45 is fine in my opinion. More than happy to wake up to the sound of a lawn mower.
Bertybassett99@reddit
Sunday shopping hours. 10am to 4pm
swamp_dumpling@reddit
I have someone drive past my house every Saturday at 06:45am with their windows down and music blasting, so it really doesn't matter to me!
kelly-golightly@reddit
I live on a street where there are loads of old people. They all insist on gardening loudly at 8 on a Saturday. Give us middle aged tired people a break. We need some sleep!
sythingtackle@reddit
@ Half 9/10 for being a socialable person unless your neighbour’s were being dicks an partying to the wee small hours, then mow away, bring out that angle grinder and a hammer drill.
iF1_AR@reddit
10am is my rule. Dog doesn’t go out in the garden before 9 either in case she starts barking
Incubus85@reddit
Whenever you want. Who really cares. I'd you want to do it at 8am do it then. If you want to leave it later because of your neighbours... do it. Do you even know them? Has dave got in from nights at 7.30? So I mean.. 7.30 would probably be ideal. Get it done before he goes to bed.
You can't please everyone. Jesus christ did everything right and they STILL crucified him.
DangerousDaveReddit@reddit
About 7am or so at the moment. It'll be too warm later.
ComplexOccam@reddit
9am is fine. 10am is better.
Saturday is a working day for most, and 9am most people would be up. If you are aware of close neighbours that work nights or whatever sure be a bit more considerate.
bobbin7277@reddit
9:30am earliest - 10am the best. Depends partly on your neighbourhood and proximity etc but 8:30am is too early
HorseFacedDipShit@reddit
If it’s before 10 stay in. After 12 feel free to yell.
Beersink@reddit
People will moan whatever you do. Although sunrise is about 04:40 at the moment, it's actually usefully light from about 04:00 onwards. Plus, if you have an electric mower it'll still be on economy7 hours. If the neighbours shouting annoys you, just wear headphones.
Paulxjamx70@reddit
10am. Give some people a chance at a sleep in.
Electrical-Rush-3538@reddit
After 10am is showing some respect. Maybe after 9:30. Sunday I would say later. A neighbour of mine was screaming at some gardeners one Saturday morning at 8:30 who had a petrol strimmer going full blast over the fence. Meanwhile the same neighbour who was complaining let's their dog out the back about 7:30 to 8am every morning then after about 10mins its barking and yelping to get back in. This goes on for about an hour every morning. That's very annoying when you have no plans to wake early after a week of early starts. But they are obviously either ablibious to the dog or don't feel it's the same issue.
I would say you are likely to fall out with someone if you it's too early.
jimmykicking@reddit
In the week. 8am. At the weekend around 10am. At least that's would be my minimum. Gerally speaking my time is "can be arsed o'clock."
Athleticathiest82@reddit
Just get fake grass then you don’t have to annoy your neighbours
teacherjon77@reddit
Not at all. The bees need the flowers.
billy-joseph@reddit
What is the latest you should cut your grass? See OP this is then riles reversed, kids will going to bed from 7ish, my neighbour started doing the grass at 8pm
Edd037@reddit
Anytime after 7am. That's when "day" starts IMO.
arc4angel100@reddit
I don't care for your opinion.
Bez666@reddit
Weekends I,d say 10 am.unless your my miserable arse neighbour who started his hedges at 7.30 am a while ago.he soon got told to feck off by about 6 people.
Ancient-Guard-6254@reddit
Anything that abides by your local noise nuisance laws. If anyone complains, they can eat a fat wad of cum
EyChuparosa@reddit
Anything loud should never be done in morning. Do it in the afternoon
SomewhereOutside9832@reddit
Mid week 8 am weekends 10am.
Goldman250@reddit
I think it’s unacceptable to mow the grass at all. Let nature reign, baby!
But that’s mainly because I have hay fever, and freshly mown grass is one of the things that makes it worse.
CSPVI@reddit
I've went out at half 8 to to hang some washing out and my garden was still damp. I wouldn't bother until after 10 for practical reasons. I also think any time after 9:30ish is fine noise wise.
KingofCalais@reddit
The afternoon. There is no need to do it immediately and as someone who used to work nights people who mow in the morning used to piss me off no end.
DoomPigs@reddit
I usually don't do anything noisy until 10
quizzyrascals@reddit
9 is fine man, mow away
el_barterino@reddit
Why do you want to mow the grass when it's dewy?
ironwilledf-up@reddit
10am. Everyone has their windows open atm, don't go waking people up on a Saturday.
Optimal_Macaroon_724@reddit
Please, I just finished my GCSEs and got woken up by someone mowing their lawn at 7:45. I'd say 10 at the earliest
Yellamo123@reddit
9am. Most shops and businesses open at 9am on a Saturday. Take that as the start of the day.
Much_Fish_9794@reddit
8am weekday, 9am weekend.
Don’t like it? Tough shit.
leoden27@reddit
My gut says 930
NoodlePenguinn@reddit
I wouldn’t care if you started mowing at 8:45. Those moaning should close their windows or get ear plugs. People work weekends and have weekdays off, do those people get lie ins? No. Because no one cares.
Moderatingmod@reddit
Later the better!
But building sites are able to start work at 8am on Saturdays, so I think you'll be fine!
MellonFriend@reddit
Yeah they're allowed to but everyone hates them for it lol
PantodonBuchholzi@reddit
I’d not bat an eyelid if you started at 8:45 and I do like a lie in.
FelisCantabrigiensis@reddit
Reload reddit a bit more until 9am, then crack on with it.
OkExperience4361@reddit
Anything after 9 is fine. Your kids wake you up at 5 am? 🥴
farmer_palmer@reddit
According to my weird neighbour, 2100 on a Saturday. In the winter, I have seen him sat on his ride-on in the garage for hours.
PehnDi@reddit
8am
fuzzydogpaws@reddit
I think 9 on Saturday and 10 on Sunday.
My old neighbour would, without fail, start their noisy outside DIY at 7am every Saturday.
No one liked that family…..
BrainlessPackhorse@reddit
As I've been at work since 07:00, any time you like :)

MaximumGibbous@reddit
Well I'm awake, so it wouldn't bother me, I say go for it. Also, looks like it might rain later.
