What would the costs be?

My friend's older sister twisted a story about £15k being given to her by her father before he died.
It was supposed to be shared, they didn't pursue it as it would all be lost in costs and cost my friend about the same amount to pursue this money, (advised by the probate person).
They have let it go as a life lesson I suppose. I feel sad for them.
She doesn't want contact with them or their children her choice.
I still think this advice is wrong.
What would you do about the money?
