There are a lot of people outside of the hardcore fans who feel like the last specials (or specifically The Grand Tour) specials felt much more stale, forced and scripted.

It’s not like all reviewers are making up these opinions.

I wanted to absolutely love the last special, but it was mostly okay. It was very disconnected at times, some cuts were jarring, other bits which genuinely could have been very emotional ended up being a scripted spoof (them “randomly” running into their old cars, which was obviously pre-planned).

Hammond broke down, then a few shots later he was suddenly with the group again without any explanation or footage, etc.

This last special is very much less genuine and well edited than the original Botswana & TG specials.

What is your source for that? I want to believe it but Clarkson recognised his car (which looked completely differently) within a split second, and the boys are famous for setting things up or faking things. (The whole Vietnam special was also bullshit, they barely rode their scooters, instead transported them on flatbeds between shots).

There are some photos circulating over the internet about their old cars. Pretty sure they also rewatched the first special while prepping for this one.

Probably they got a tip like "look left now, really look".

Yeah as I said on another post, we've seen them acr over the years, they're not that great at it. Not terrible by any means, but it's obvious when they're doing it.

Them finding the old cars felt genuine. May in particular looked properly shocked by it.

And if they had been in on it, Clarkson would have had the headlight in bis car ready to go. The fact that he had to break the fourth wall by going to one of the production cars showed that he wasn't in on it.

People will down vote but your not wrong it has felt more stale, forced and scripted since Amazon took over. It got better when they just did the specials because the tent stuff was just not great 75% of the time.

I just feel that when Clarkson Snickers at top gear for what they have become it sort of stupid considering the grand tour is nowhere near what it was when they were top gear when it was far better.

I agree. Their “random” idea to turn their cars into rail cars and float them across on pontoon boats were blatantly preplanned. It was a drama free road trip with a few little challenges along the way (that were presented as crises they had to innovate a way around) that went perfectly smooth as well. They had to completely fabricate dramatic moments like the boats coming apart and the “sinking” right at the end of the boat portion.

Watched all the top gears way too much when I was younger and all the grand tours multiple times.

Some recent ones were really good but the magic just started to fade imo, there are always moments but I feel like they see it too and that's why they're keeping it to a dignified end.

They've found new things and their passion shows for them e.g. clarksons farm has been better than almost every grand tour imo.

Just to be super clear. I love the team, it was a big part of my adult life and I always re-watch the episodes. But when Clarkson talks about EVs and that he don't want to test them, and it's all shit I recognized one thing. Yes, it's time to move on. I don't want to hear old topics about EVs, no shit talk from an ICE petrol head with nonsense. It would destroy me heros. He is out of time, therefore I wish him all the best and looking forward for next season of Clarkson farm.

I have no issues with this, I love the franchise and will begin watching the final instalment on a plane home.

But if your not admitting that age and the stagnation of the series has occurred I think your kidding yourselves. The tent antics were pretty bad and the specials always were better, that's not to say there wasn't gold the boating in laos was golden but I think age has played more and more on their specials.

Plus they always did better with older shit boxes then the new zuped up cars that have popped up more and more in the grand tour.

It will be sad to see it go, Ed does have a little bit of a point though.
