No policy is strictly right or left. Wish people could get away from this black and white politics and actually realize people have similar values no matter how you vote
The current left is authoritarian, big government, big surveillance, statists. It’s not a place for the classical liberal anymore. The progressive cancer has fully infected the party and I believe is approaching stage-4 with zero acknowledgment from the patient.
Claiming that the left is not classically liberal makes me a man of the right? Progressivism is not liberal. The current left are “progressives” and marxists. You lie with dogs, you get flees.
Just sharing my opinion bro. It would be great if people like you would actually have some principles or opinions rather than just crying into your safe space. You come to a libertarian page and get mad when people don’t like either side but happen to attack your side.
Sit and spin buddy.
🤓🤓🫵 I didn’t forget it, according to… Karl Marx…. The “father of communism” totalitarianism isn’t a part of communism.
Btw Totalitarianism is a political system and a form of government that prohibits opposition political parties, disregards and outlaws the political claims of individual and group opposition to the state, and controls the public sphere and the private sphere of society.
This has nothing to do with the distribution of goods through the state or public
In fact, totalitarianism is the opposite of Marxist communism as one Marxist communism believes in a dissolved government with equal distribution of wealth to everyone, while totalitarianism believes in everything controlled by the government. Which is the complete opposite of what communism is.
For example- China. The government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), guided by a totalitarian ideology under the absolute rule of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), deprives citizens of their rights on a sweeping scale and systematically curtails freedoms as a way to retain power.
You can be a “communist” party but follow other Ideologies.
When you start blending the different beliefs together then yes, it’s terrible and controlled by the state. But TRUE communism described by the founder… is not having a state control🤓🤓🫵
Supposedly a vocal minority on the left, during the 50’s and 60’s maybe, was counter culture and for a smaller government but even if that is what that minority truly wanted it was a blip, an anomaly of what leftists have been for. Prior to and after that time leftism has given us vastly expanded government in the form of welfare. Both FDR and LBJ oversaw incredible expansions and are the primary reasons we have what we have today.
I find it impossible to believe what you say is true.
I think what’s wrong with politics is how hardcore people like to compartmentalize everybody.
Yes someone on the left can believe in smaller government,
Just like I can be against abortion but support having the choice made by the woman.
Or that I don’t think illegal immigrants should be in our country, but should have a good path to immigrate to our country.
This beaten out rhetoric that the “left wants this” and the “right stands for this is bullshit.
How many times have republicans stood for less government but increased spending and military?
At the end of the day, I believe we all want better opportunities for Americans without the headache and over spending of a huge government. Not sure how that’s hard for you to believe
Because you say you are a leftist and your post history shows you to be a communist. I doubt you even know leftism coopted classical liberalism or even know what classical liberalism is.

for what it's worth, some things that I consider to be in the 'limited gov' zone: clean air act of 1970 (helped eliminate lead from gasoline), and the motor safety standard of 1968 (required auto manufacturers to install seatbelts in their automobiles). notably, it did not require individuals to wear seatbelts, only for manufacturers to have them installed..
p.s. I know the EPA has since metastasized since 1970 and I don't have a good retort for that...
The whole idea of rights is that there are certain things that you are entitled too in any and every case. The constitution lays out some super basic ones and if you have a hard time understanding that the bill of rights should be the very least of what should be protected you need to have some conversations with yourself about if you actually like freedom or not. This entire graph reads as authoritarian/tyrannical.
Hate to say it, but I have bad feeling the US government is somewhere in the northeast quadrant of this graph already. Closer to the center than the corner, but still. 😞
I don't think you can justify extreme violations of rights. I mean you can pander and attempt to do so, and you may sway some. If you look at people getting locked up over reposting a meme, I just don't think you can justify it.
I'd say it depends. I will generally lean towards some risk of death is preferable to some totalitarianism.
For example, during COVID, I was against general lockdowns, even if I as an individual chose to mostly stay home starting weeks before anyone even started seeing widespread reports.
It's easy for govt to overstep, much harder to claw back freedom.
I don't think it should be centered about the origin of a Cartesian plane, because it makes it seem like a government falls into one of 4 quadrants.
If you put the origin on the bottom left, then put the level of justification on the Y-axis and the level of violation on the X-axis, the line would be represented as the inequality, Y >= X. That would better represent that any action by the government is necessarily a violation of rights on some level, and it must be justified at a level of 100% or more. A higher violation of rights requires more justification.
The government should never step into the unjustified territory, and the quadrant model makes it seem like there are justified cases for unjustified government action.

I think the graph is pretty accurate, because it depicts minarchy, which is still a violation of rights significantly.

Is it okay to quarantine an individual who has an easily communicable and somewhat deadly disease for a period of time?
This has been common practice to avoid spread of illness. The quarantine is typically a couple weeks at most (once symptoms pass plus a few days).
