Running, driving, tracked and showed. First time in a long time.

My 944 has been in various states over the past 13 years, but it's finally back is a usable and fun one!
I finished building the engine this spring/ summer. It's a 3l 16v 4 cylinder, that I converted to closed deck, sleeves, and put forged pistons and rods into. The head has oversized intake valves, and I rebuilt it, but it otherwise stock.
I put it on the dyno and tuned it 2 weeks ago, took it up to the track for a shakedown a week ago, and entered a show with some friends this weekend.
I was lucky enough to get a judges top 10 at the show. I included some of the cars I was there with, my brother's FD, and a 355, 240Z and RUF 930 belonging to various friends.
Still lots to sort out, and lots to change, but it's good to actually enjoy it!

Hey! Nice car. I see the turbo is on the intake side. How is the exhaust manifold routed, if I may ask?

It runs down the exhaust side, under the engine, then up to the turbo. All 944 turbos run this way- the engines are canted over enough that a turbo doesn't fit in the exhaust side of the engine.

Alright, I see. Thanks!

In picture 9, when air filters get like that with the creases, it means it is collapsing in on itself under boost.
I'd suggest a larger filter, should help a bit.

I appreciate the concern. It was one of the last things, and something I had sitting around. The inner mesh is OK, and I did a pull without it on the dyno and there was no power change. Surprisingly, it's not undersized yet.
Over winter, I'll be moving the expansion tank and making a big air box to take up that space.

Truly the best looking 944 I have ever seen.

That 944 is beautiful! I don't know much about the DOHC engines but they look way more modern compared to my 951. Looks like the dream setup, especially with boost.

Thanks. The 16v bottom ends are essentially the same other than piston design. The heads are pretty wonderful though. They make more power at all rpm, and run more smoothly to boot.

Beautiful car and it along the rest of the cars are like a dream garage for me. Having a choice of a nice 944, FD, slant nose, 240, 355 to take out every day would be amazing.

Thanks! Thankfully I only have to maintain mine, and 944s are pretty easy that way.
