Genuine question about cake pops. I made them the first thing the other day and I was pretty stoked, I love cake. But cake pops are just mushy cake? I wasn’t prepared for it and I didn’t like it. Am I missing something? I know it’s how they’re made but I wasn’t ready for the texture to just be gummy cake, did I do it wrong? What does a good cake pop taste like???

You're asking the person who accidentally bought whipped buttercream instead of regular frosting, so mine turned like actual paste. Had to freeze them to avoid them falling apart even more than they already have 🤣

I've tried cakepops from other more competent cooks and it didn't feel mushy to me, it had more form and less give. But it is softer and less spongy than regular cake, that's for sure.

I mean, it's made of cake smushed up with a bunch of frosting to hold it together. If you take a corner piece of birthday cake and smash it up into paste, that's what the inside of a cake pop is.

I think they're pretty cute! But I have a soft spot for kind of goofy baked goods, especially when they look a little silly but taste phenomenal. It reminds me of the cake from Sleeping Beauty.
