I want to make libertarian friends

I posted the following text on the friendship sub and it got deleted so I guess I'll try here:
I'd like a friend who is:
-Libertarian, pro-freedom
-not atheist, but also not fundamentalist about religious dogma
-into Bitcoin
-rational thinker type
-respectful and mature
AaronKClark@reddit
"rational thinker" but "not an athiest"
...I got some bad news there buddy
Zeroging@reddit
It is possible, liberal theology.
Zeroging@reddit
I'm all that except the bitcoin.
DanSnyderSux@reddit
Move to Wyoming, New Hampshire, Idaho or New Mexico.
SamHarrisonP@reddit
Idaho is underrated. Great state to hole up in
dan_the_it_guy@reddit
Here's the thing: libertarianism is a wide, wide umbrella and it includes people you like, people you don't, and people you have nothing in common with.
I'd recommend not being friends with anyone based on the fact that they are libertarian, just consider it a big plus :)

Hey man (or woman). I’m down. I’m pretty libertarian for the most part. I’m not very financially literate about bitcoin though.
Special_Trifle_8033@reddit (OP)
Bitcoin is like the libertarian's wet dream. Money separated from state control. It pays to research it, a huge opportunity imo.
MilennialFalconnnnnn@reddit
I should. I just stayed away from investments, until I get a stable job where I can afford to invest. I’m in nursing school, but once I’m done I will be investing for sure.
Other than that I am definitely pro freedom. People can say and do as they please as long as it doesn’t interfere with other people’s freedom (of course it doesn’t mean what they are doing is right, since morality is a separate issue in and of itself).
I’m agnostic.
Yes, logical thinking is always priority #1. Logos takes precedence over ethos and pathos.
For the most part I am respectful and mature. I am not a perfect human being, so I would be lying if I said I don’t have moments here and there where I come off quite the opposite.
Cheers mate.
vtleslie07@reddit
Yay! A fellow nursing student libertarian! You’re not struggling alone, buddy. It’s brutal.
MilennialFalconnnnnn@reddit
Ayy yoo lol. It’s kind of hard being a libertarian and a nurse. Many nurses, and healthcare workers in general, are pretty left wing.
vtleslie07@reddit
Yes, but for me, what’s sadder is how lack of personal responsibility and self-reliance manifests into disease processes: obesity, T2D, HTN, mental illness…easily attributed to the Dependency mindset
MilennialFalconnnnnn@reddit
Yes! Im so glad someone understands this. Many diseases and conditions can be avoided with a healthy attitude.
silentgreenbug@reddit
Bitcoin is hope and freedom I'm with you
CharlesEwanMilner@reddit
But it would be better if it was more private.
Special_Trifle_8033@reddit (OP)
no, because then it would be heavily attacked by government and never go mainstream. Bitcoin is getting a foothold in traditional markets and being rapidly adopted. Pseudo-anonymity is good enough and there are ways to make it more private if need be.
CharlesEwanMilner@reddit
And those ways are needed. Otherwise, you would have to launder money.
conipto@reddit
Crypto had so much promise until it turned into an investment and speculation vehicle. Now it's just worse currency.
Special_Trifle_8033@reddit (OP)
the frenzy is good. will help drive mass adoption. Having an untouchable store of value is the main priority, not usability as a dad-to-day currency... for now at least
human743@reddit
It could be separated from government control but it is not really. There is pressure for the governments to be able to limit internet use in "emergencies". Bitcoin does not work without the internet.

Special_Trifle_8033@reddit (OP)
Sure, the internet can be turned off temporarily but it's pretty hard to completely kill it. So many aspects of society require it. Plus you no longer need the grid for internet... there's Starlink and other ways of connecting that are emerging. Anyway, interruption in internet just means you can't transact. You're bitcoin would still be safely stored on a decentralized ledger with thousands of physical nodes.

Hello fren
Noughtdread@reddit
I can see why you don't have many friends
ThrowawayMorphs2@reddit
You will likely meet people like this at your local church or otherwise volunteer for charitable work at church.
Special_Trifle_8033@reddit (OP)
Churches are alright but I find the people to be not so rational. I find the doctrine of the Trinity very dubious. Also many Christians have a koranic understanding of the Bible as if it were literally a dictation from God.
cluskillz@reddit
Okay...so why no atheists?
Also, to answer your original question, try to attend local and state LP meetups.
Special_Trifle_8033@reddit (OP)
Atheists can rightly identify many issues with religion but imo they throw the baby out with the bathwater.
cluskillz@reddit
Fair enough. As an atheist, my best discussions about religion have been with religious friends. I guess you can draw completely opposite conclusions from that; take from that what you will.
squarebearings@reddit
Are you sure?
obsquire@reddit
Good luck. Maybe be a little less picky, or there could be some nice connections you'll miss.
DisulfideBondage@reddit
Im disqualified from your friendship, but I am curious about one of the points. Does agnostic or “no belief” about god count as “not atheist?”
In other words are you just looking for a friend that will not constantly talk about their certainty (or feel certainty for that matter, even if they keep it to themselves) that a God does not exist?
Like, if their belief is “I don’t know, but I also don’t care.” Is that ok?
Special_Trifle_8033@reddit (OP)
sorry. I don't like apathy. I'm pretty passionate about spiritual topics.
chucocarlos@reddit
Hey man, instead of Bitcoin take a look at monero (XMR)
Special_Trifle_8033@reddit (OP)
It's good, but more complicated and unlikely to get mass adoption. The pseudo-anonymity of bitcoin is good enough for the average user and also transparent enough for the system to accept it. It's a Trojan horse.
gbacon@reddit
We’re not good at that.
TheAzureMage@reddit
Go to libertarian meetups, or meetups for some of those other things, like Bitcoin. Bitcoiners tend to average pretty libertarian.
Chat 'em up, be social, come back a bunch of times. Invite the ones you like to some other events.
Once you have a circle of people doing various different things together, congrats, you are now friends.
Ok_Relationship4470@reddit
Im down bro
Exaris1989@reddit
not atheist
(thinks that he is) rational thinker
into bitcoin
Are you looking for friends or for easy target to promote get-rich-quick bitcoin scheme lol?
witshaul@reddit
"rational thinker" .... "Not atheist" ...
Gonna have a hard time with that one

One of my favorite aspects of libertarianism is how diverse in thought we can be due to the fact that we all respect each other’s right to live however we want. We can debate ideas, but with the understanding that the other person wouldn’t advocate for legislation against our choices or beliefs. Since 2020, I’ve slowly been blacklisted by all my left leaning friends which is ironic being that they claim to advocate for diversity in culture.

I would love to but I'm not taking friendship applications at this moment
mattmcegg@reddit
and your question is what?
ProprietaryIsSpyware@reddit
Online friends usually stay together with a common online activity like video games, unless you wanna tell us which town you live in.
denimsquared@reddit

HornetFN@reddit
Get ready for autism
thelowbrassmaster@reddit
I mean, who doesn't want more friends. I don't meet the not an atheist and into bitcoin parts.
Sea_Addition_1686@reddit
It’s tough because we are all usually so busy. But you nailed me on the head there. Been into bitcoin for a bit, and could really use an increase next year as the past charts have shown. I’m not atheist but do not like most organized religions and consider myself spiritual and sometimes find myself talking to the stars as I smoke my medical marijuana before I sleep in southern Louisiana. I like eastern martial arts philosophies and believe that one of the worst things installed in this country was by Woodrow Wilson.

Me too!
