Moving to Plano

My husband and I are moving to the plano area in a few months. Can anyone give us some advice on appartments. We really like Junction 15. Have you heard anything good or bad about it? Any other appartments in the area we should look into?

check out legacy area. Kincaid is an outstanding high rise, but pricey. there are other apartments in the area within walking distance of restaurants. I grew up in Mass and ended up here. It is never going to be the east coast. good luck!!

Nice, that's what we thought too. It's not New England but we're looking forward to a new adventure!

a few thoughts. Don't be surprised at the amount of business + religion. A lot of businesses will include christian language and refer to themselves as a faith based organization. Ignore it. Some are great; some are awful. Rats are a real thing. that is why I do not recommend living on the first floor anywhere in this area. Take out the trash every single day. Summer is unbearable. It's sunny and very hot for weeks on end. There are some nice weeks in the fall and spring. It's hard to find a place with screens or windows that open. Be careful on the highways. Particularly 75. High accident rates here.

I live at Junction 15 and have for years now. Unit location in the building matters so just figure out which units are available and where they land on the map. You probably don't want to face the performing arts stage if you're noise-sensitive.
DM me if you want to ask more questions!

You mentioned husband working in McKinney and you working in Dallas. Consider how often you have to go to Dallas and how you will get there. Technically Plano borders Dallas but Dallas is big. If your plan involves highway 75, know that it's a parking lot. Check Google maps during rush hour to see what it will be like on a Tuesday-Thursday. If your workplace is near DART, Junction 15 is close to the Plano station. Perhaps you were considering that already. DFW is very car dependent.

Plano has specific zoning for mixed use, so its not too hard to find areas with retail/apartment/office. Downtown Plano is nice and has lots of walkable areas. For comparison, here are other intersections:
It just really depends on what you're looking for, but I enjoy visiting downtown Plano and even considered moving there myself.

Downtown Plano is beautiful, fun, lively, and has easy access to the highways to get around. The train is also a super easy way to get to places near 75. I take it occasionally to go to events at City Line, and to Walnut Hill. They're also building the new Silver Line that will connect Downtown Plano to DFW Airport which is going to be amazing. That should open sometime in 2026 I think.

Son lived on the West side of Junction 15 for two years and loved it. He never heard music, etc.. from the concerts but had friends that lived on the East side of the complex that did. He loved walking to the bars and restaurants in downtown.

Where are y'all moving from? Are y'all new to Plano or North Texas in general?
Ill-Mammoth9482@reddit (OP)
New to Texas all together. We're moving from Connecticut.

Curious why Plano?
What type of "life" do y'all lead? Social and busy? Homebodies?
Ill-Mammoth9482@reddit (OP)
Little of everything. We enjoy live music though and the concerts shouldn't be an issue. We love the closeness of restaurants, markets and activities at Junction 15!

My husband will be working in McKinney and I'll be at DAL so it's mid-ish..

Live in the area. Be aware that Plano holds concerts and performances directly besides Junction 15 pretty much every weekend. If I can hear the performances some nights(quietly), I'm sure you're gonna hear it.
I_Seen_Some_Stuff@reddit
Don't underestimate the impact of this. I moved across from a bar that cranks live dj music til 1am and you absolutely hear it.

Would not recommend living right by a place that plays live music every night
janejacobs1@reddit
Not every night. Follow Plano Arts and Events FB page to see upcoming events.

I live at junction 15 and have for 4 years. Absolutely love it. Noise is not an issue unless you’re directly facing the dart train. Best maintenance staff ever.

You have the right idea

I like Junction 15 a lot, but agree that there's a lot of ambient noise between the live music and the train, especially if you get an apartment on the east side of the building. Im a musician so don't mind the live music as much, and have pretty much gotten used to the train since I moved in at the end of March -- I hardly notice it anymore unless it's late or my apartment is quiet.
So yeah, if you don't think a noisier place will bother you, then definitely consider it; the walkability, nearby park, cafes/bars, and more relaxed nightlife and access to the DART are nice. Also, the top level of the parking garage is one of the best hidden sunset views I've found ;)
