does it waste money if buying 4070 0r 4080 for full hd monitor?
or just buy 4060 is enough?
one_jo@reddit
What speaks against changing the monitor though?
footballhd720p@reddit (OP)
it is still working, if it have damaged, i will buy better one, so i dont want to waste it, and new pc purchase, since cpu is old core, if buy new pc, there are some choice for gpu, some is expensive, do i choose which one is better?
one_jo@reddit
You could keep using it as a secondary screen or give it to someone who will keep using it. If you want to keep it as your single monitor you don’t need the bigger gpu.

yes, you have answered my question, but i hate some newest pc game cannot run in future, like cities skylines 2, the low and medium spec is 4070 or 4080, i hate many new game cannot run yet even i used old monitor...
bakedandstaked@reddit
city skylines 2 minimum spec is a gtx970. a gpu released in 2014. i guarantee that 99% of the games you want to play have way lower requirements than you think. "Alan wake up" currently has the HIGHEST min spec on steam with an nvidia 2060. you do NOT need to spend anywhere close to $1000 on a pc to have an enjoyable experience.

you mean buy older version of gpu or pc? i heard there are many older cpu and gpu of pc package on sale, my old pc is 4 core i7, 32gb ram and gtx 1080, i bought it before since it is on big sale, someone said big sale maybe selling old version of cpu and gpu indeed...
one_jo@reddit
Yeah, that’s just how it goes. You can just keep using your old monitor if you really want to though. Just be aware that your monitor can not display all the frames your new GPU could deliver.

I would strongly recommend upgrading to a quality 1440p IPS high refresh rate panel. Costs have come down below $200 and it just doesn’t make sense to spend $1000 for a GPU for use on an old, 1080p panel. 1440p DLSS Quality will pretty much always look superior to 1080p native - and usually it will be very close or march 1440p native.
As for your question, a 4080 will likely get CPU-limited at 1080p. A 4070 (4070 super is a much better value given the minor price bump for a near 20% boost) would be more reasonable - but I just don’t think 1080p makes sense at this price point. 4070 Super is equivalent to a 3090. It’s just overkill for 1080p, and it’s a waste of the hardware.
footballhd720p@reddit (OP)
yes, you are right, it is good solution, but waste my tv and monitor, it is not good since it is worked fine, but your theory is right, i got it\~\~!
jasonwc@reddit
In that case, buy a 4070 Super and save $400. You won't notice the difference because you'll be limited by your CPU or monitor's refresh rate, anyhow. A 4080 is really for 1440p ultrawide high refresh or 4K IMHO.

yes, you are right, some gpu have different vram, i wanna to buy amd pc with rx 7600m xt with amd cpu 16 core 32 thread, cpu is good but gpu is not good, only 4060 quality and 8gb vram, but it is more cheaper price, so i turned to buy 4070 and i9 14th generation h or hx series, same money but lower core...
jasonwc@reddit
Are you aware of the stability issues impacting 13th and 14th generation Intel CPUs? Given you can get equivalent performance from Zen 4, I would avoid impacted Intel CPUs until we have more information as to whether the issue is definitively resolved.
footballhd720p@reddit (OP)
yes, since my old pc is only 4 core, some software cannot perform well, even have 32gb ram and gtx 1080, someone said cpu is important for most part, not only ram and gpu, so i replace i9 13th or 14th generaton with 24 core 32 thread to do better\~\~!
bakedandstaked@reddit
nah you need a 4090 and a 500hz 4k monitor. WHATS YOUR BUDGET? WHATS FPS DO YOU WANT? WHAT RESOLUTION DO YOU WANT? WHAT GAMES DO YOU PLAY?
expensive gpu + cheap monitor = high fps low resolution. not bad, not good, just how it is. Some favor fps, other favor resolution. However the particular balance between the two is purely opinion and not something anyone can tell you right or wrong on.
tldr:upgrade the monitor if you want it to look better. downgrade the gpu if you want to save money. a 3060 or 3070 is more than capable at 1080p.
footballhd720p@reddit (OP)
since i used old tv and monitor for console before, and not waste it even no place to add more monitor, so i think 4080 is not necessary to it and put money to i9 hx series that more core to make pc with better performance...?
bakedandstaked@reddit
from reading other comments i gather you are upgrading your entire old build. without knowing the specs, i suggest starting from scratch on the used market. a full build or individual parts, whatever you have the confidence for. keep your monitor. if it's miserable and you want to upgrade you can always do so later. don't go all out and spend a fortune, but look up videos of stress tests/game tests on different hardware to get an idea of the fps you can get for your money.

does it waste money if bying ps5 for playing on 10yo tv?
footballhd720p@reddit (OP)
i hate some newest pc game cannot run in future...
kyralfie@reddit
I would rather get a quality monitor, the best I can afford, and then any graphics card I can afford and optimize in game settings. The monitor plays a much bigger role, IMO, in the overall experience. Unless you are playing competitively.
footballhd720p@reddit (OP)
yes, sure, but recently i watched spec, like cities skylines, the lower or medium spec may need 4070 4080, i hate lower gpu cannot run newest game, even i used old full hd monitor... so why i concern high end gpu since some newest game may not run yet...
PotentialforSanity@reddit
Yes, especially if you're not buying the best of the best cpu in the case or the 4080, put the money towards a better monitor
footballhd720p@reddit (OP)
right, i got the solution from your side, but if i dont want to waste my old tv and monitor at my home, still use it until damaged, then i am no need to buy high end gpu and save money? since it cannot use 4080 for full hd tv and monitor?
littleemp@reddit
The waste is mostly down to your experience being severely handicapped by the monitor.
If you dont really care about picture quality, then get whatever card is going to make you happy and without buyers remorse.
footballhd720p@reddit (OP)
yes, sure, maybe i still have not used high end monitor before, i just use samsung tab 9 ultra and discover the oled and monitor is different level, even for gaming\~\~!
Healthy_BrAd6254@reddit
You get a better experience with a better monitor and weaker GPU
footballhd720p@reddit (OP)
i have not tried high end monitor, like 120fps or 240fps, i just watched gtx1080 ultra high on good quality on full hd monitor, so i concern the monitor and gpu matching or not... even involved money spend...
Crank_My_Hog_@reddit
I don't know. How about you tell us what your individual goals are. AKA, what do YOU WANT? What do YOU PLAY? How well do YOU think it needs to run?
We can't tell you this shit.
footballhd720p@reddit (OP)
no, my home tv and monitor are still worked, and my pc is old for cpu, so i am sometimes buy new pc for every five years, my old tv and monitor are full hd, so if i buy new pc, 4070 and 4080 are different in price, if i only have full hd screen, do i need to buy high spec of gpu for full hd monitor?
