Because it is built in very mountainous terrain and that is where they managed to squeeze in a runway. It’s a sloping runway where one end faces the mountain. Go around would mean flying into the side of the mountain.

Because there is a mountain on the other side. You could certainly try but it's not going to go well. There are many airports like this. Especially in Papa New Guinea. Literally hundreds of little strips that have no go around options.
The airport near Mt Everest at Lukla is also very similar to Courcheval. No go around possible there.

Courchevel Altiport (French: Altiport de Courchevel) (IATA: CVF, ICAO: LFLJ) is an altiport serving Courchevel, a ski resort in the French Alps. The airfield has a very short runway of only 537 metres (1,762 ft) with a gradient of 18.6%. There is no go-around procedure for landings at Courchevel due to the surrounding mountainous terrain

I found a video with a Lukla go around. Let's just say it was on a edge of a miracle. I reckon the pilot had to check the tyres afterwards to check for chimneypot debris

In pieces. There are apparently way more totalled airplanes in that airport than anyone wants to admit. Most get removed at night or early next morning. He apparently owns a set of equipment stores down the mountain as it’s a “must remove by” contract usually. Insurance totally most of them as they think they get chopped up to get out. He unbolts wings and sometimes surgically cuts them. Occasionally he can bring up parts and fly them out.

This is the place where usually only pilots that have flown there before and taken their specific course can land there right? I’m guessing there is no go around and that’s why they went with the late landing into the snow bank?
It almost seems like in situations like this it might be safer for the pilots to remove their seatbelts and run for the back of the plane if they know they are going to hit the snowbank or a wall, because the cockpit often collapses but the plane generally survives well.

Yeah, I mean it depends on where you live, what cars, driving history, coverage, etc. We carry a good amount of coverage plus an umbrella, more medical pay than normal, and it definitely doesn't help that I was at fault in an accident (for the first time in forever) about six months ago. Rates went up about 20% after that. We also carry new car replacement (which got us $20k extra after the aforementioned accident) so I'm definitely way ahead of the game.

There are a lot of parts that are replaced anytime there is a prop strike (or even a “slow down of 100 rpm or more, iirc). Plus I’d really be surprise if there wasn’t engine mount and fuselage damage. That airplane could very well be totaled.

This happened a number of years ago. Looking up the registration of F-GUYZ, I found a auction page showing the aircraft disassembled as of 2019, with nothing else since. Assuming it was probably bought for parts or is still sitting in a warehouse somewhere.

Used to overhaul PT6As, that's a full power section overhaul and replacement of the center line bearings in the power section regardless of condition. Couple hundred thousand just for the engine to get back to serviceable, not countain the airframe stuff

As a guy raised in a family that takes aviation seriously, with multiple pilots, folks in other aspects of aviation, etc...this is a horrible saying.
I remember a guy bragging to me about how great a bush pilot his uncle was because "he'd survived all of his crashes." I laughed out loud because this guy was serious...then I realized he was serious, and I didn't want to talk to him anymore.

Old military saying from WW2. Pretty common for planes to return after sorties with so much damage that they’d scrap it immediately. Planes were more or less disposable, pilots weren’t. So if they got the pilot back it one piece it was a good day.

Pilot logged 398 flying hours principally by glider towing flights and parachute drop flights...
Obtained certification to land on Courchevel mountain airfield in December 2018 with a different plane.
First flight as captain on the PA-46 the day before the accident.
Safety pilot had no certification on Courchevel mountain airfield, neither on PA-46... Wasn't involve in the preparation of the flight.

If you find yourself needing a side slip to get onto a normal glide path/speed, you should go around instead. Your approach is unstable, and this is the cause of basically every landing accident.

You’re missing the point. It appears that airport did not have a go around option. I would only try that maneuver when it becomes necessary. And in my opinion, a pilot should know how to perform a side slip for a variety of reasons.

It’s not a good thing that CFI’s teach students to cross over the numbers at 90kts in a 172 and normalize floating for a minute down the runway. Teach setting a stable pitch (AoA) and control the descent via power.

"Dangerous" landing huh. Every landing in an aircraft is inherently dangerous, as is every flight for that matter.
What I see here is a pilot not having his best day, at perhaps one of the most challenging approaches in the entire world bar none. Yet, everyone on that aircraft got to go home, perhaps with a few bruises. A good flight in my book!
I'm impressed myself. Lenticular clouds and mountain wake turbulence is no joke. But im sure someone in here with 60 hours in Microsoft flight sim will tell me how they would have greased in on this strip.

Learning to fly in a 172, not longer after my first solo, got some instructions from the tower that I didn’t quite understand. So halfway down the runway I asked again for clearance for a touch and go, and got it. It was a military runway, so plenty of space. Went ahead and did my touch and go in the final third of the runway. Returned to the Aero Club and got my ass chewed out by the director.

Well to be fair, he knew that missing the lower section and the gradient to do the braking he was going to impact the snow bank, and shut off the engine to preserve the prop and shaft from the rotational strike that was coming.
Less damage means more likely to be able to fly home without changing too many parts
