Is this a bad idea?

So I have this Chevrolet luv 82 and I swap the motor for a 4jb1-t. I replace the clutch and the rear crankshaft seal the thing is that I did use the proper tool and now is leaking. Putting the engine in was pretty difficult since the transmission cross member is solid... The question is can I cut it and make braces so it can be held by bolts or this will affect the structure of the truck?
With the removable croos member I'll be able to just drop the gearbox instead of taking the motor out.

I personally wouldn't risk it, your torque rods connect to the trans mount and those are essentially your springs it needs to be strong there

Yeah that's the mayor concern

It's not impossible if you sleeve the inside and weld additional braces to the chassis. Look how Chevy builds the trans cross member on newer Silverados, If you are not comfortable with your fab skills I would just pull it out the hard way

Thanks I'll look a it!

You could cut it and make it a bolt in piece. Most of the structural strength for the torsion bars is on the frame itself. The crossmember keeps its from trying to twist the frame rail. Youll probably have to back the torsion bars off to take it out and put it back in. But it can be done if you have the fab skills to do it right.

I’d be curious if it would fit on an s10 frame personally but if this is what you want to work with watch a few YouTube videos of people doing the same thing you are asking

I would have thought the Luv was way too small, but apparently It's been done- looks like it takes more than minor fabrication though.

It's tight, especially went matching the motor with the transmission aside from that is not that difficult

I have seen some videos but none have the same suspension set up:(
