I'm an American who grew up in Europe. I am moving back to Europe, and I am wondering if going the DAFT visa route will be the smartest approach.

Hey OP, I recently moved to NL using the DAFT. It seems like you already have a strong bank account, which is a great start. I highly suggest you get an immigration lawyer and a business lawyer/accountant to help you through the whole process, as it made everything very simple and ensured that no steps were forgotten along the way.

Europe is a big place with many very different countries.
Is the Europe you grew up in... Dutch?

Also, I'm an Emmy winning re-recording mixer for film and TV. With numerous industryvawsrds, and credits on big, well known productions. I would be looking at working with local post facilities to attractwork, using my credits and experience.

Two things. 1. DAFT in your case is the route to go. I know one of the early guys of instagram and he’s been here for 8 years now. Never let your bank balance go below the minimum though. That’s your new hard line zero. 2. Way too much info into today’s world. That said, thank you for the work you’ve contributed to on some of my favorite blockbusters and you right fully earned that Emmy for that one work.

Bank balance won't be an issue

Renting a place will be difficult without a steady job though.
Landlords usually want to see a job contract or 3 years of earnings as a contractor.

Honestly, if you speak Dutch, there is a decent chance you can go on DAFT and really find the odd jobs here and there to survive on it.

There is a DAFT FB group that is quite good.

Oh, thanks. I'll check it out

There is also a chance that you can get a European citizenship by descent.
