Seems like this movie is about the people who probably started the war. (media) What are your thoughts?

I was excited to see the movie. Disappointed when I did.
!!

Their explanation was that he stayed for a 3rd term and dismantled the fbi
Av1dredditor@reddit
I think they modeled the president after Trump. But didn’t want to alienate half the population so made the secessionists an alliance between California and Texas 😂
i-self@reddit
On the a24 sub a lot of people are saying that if the filmmaker was more overtly political it would make the movie seem dated in just a few years, so he tried to avoid direct references to trump. It’s pretty obvious though

Red tie says it all...
401-throwaway@reddit
Right -- I forgot about that. It would've been nice to cover that in more detail. How'd he stay for a third term? You can't just do that, so show us how...
Smurph269@reddit
The movie was basically about how war journalists are super cool and badass. Having it set in a US civil war was just a stunt to get people to pay attention. Hollywood loves making movies about journalists, it makes them feel good about themselves.
schmemel0rd@reddit
War journalists are pretty badass though
LostMyGunInACardGame@reddit
The movie didn’t really relay anything that actual footage hasn’t conveyed from the GWoT or the current military action videos from Ukraine show in greater detail. (With the exception of videos of Marines, they make it seem like they enjoy it)
AaronKClark@reddit
It was a movie about the horrors of war and how fucking stupid and pointless it is.
Used-Juggernaut-7675@reddit
Scary
Great movie

I was so turned off by the screenshots that I wouldn't even watch the trailer. It seemed immediately favoring the progressive characters, as all media does, and I'd rather waste a couple hours on something that presents both sides as moral equals in a concept like an American civil war.
I'm not even what I would consider conservative, but I don't find a yellow-haired, trans flag nail polished person to be believable as a mud-drenched sniper, as much as I don't find anyone with red sunglasses to be a believable anything except maybe a pop music performer.
401-throwaway@reddit
So wait, did you watch it? It didn't really "favor" anyone but the media crew.
Sledgecrowbar@reddit
I didn't watch it, but I can believe it would favor a media crew, and I wouldn't watch it because I don't find that believable. I think a media crew would be a stray dog smorgasbord within seconds of being spotted by any combatants in such a conflict due to them being considered a poorly-disguised scout team by anyone at all, especially the kind of combatants modern media loves to label "domestic terrorists". Like Libertarians.
Valuable-Scared@reddit
Yeah, you should watch it. I think you might enjoy it. It's nothing like you portray it.
dontgiveahamyamclam@reddit
It didn’t favor anyone. Give it a shot. I really enjoyed it.
OneEyedWanderer@reddit
It felt like a zombie movie like 28 days later only with the federal government forces playing the zombies, no real plan just sort of roaming around doing random stuff.

https://youtu.be/oWmjIZPK_lI?si=8yfxqj_hwebrbxlR A much better "Civil War" movie, with a cast of some real notables of the time, including the late, great James Earl Jones.
Atomic_Toast7@reddit
I think the main message was about a girl realizing the horrors of war. The civil war doesn’t mean anything and I think the film was poorly titled. The plot would have been the same if it took place in the Middle East.
But OMG that standoff scene had me more nervous than I’ve been watching a movie in a long time.
HTownLaserShow@reddit
I thought the movie stunk.
Because they went soft and it had really no point or cohesion.
MoistSoros@reddit
Shitty movie that didn't even try to have a coherent message, so I don't see how it could be controversial to people. If anything, it's a loose collection of scenes that show what heroes (conflict zone) journalists are and what hardships they have to go through. I guess Garland has a boner for journalists or something.
PeteDub@reddit
Ir was a stupid movie. Could have been so much better.
brutalservant@reddit
Movie was ok. Not sure if there was a message in the movie except that war sucks. The battle scenes at the end were cool.
Three_Chopt@reddit
That was the message. Congrats, you figured it out.
No_Cell_9733@reddit
The movie is about civil war
No_Cell_9733@reddit
I like it because I don’t tolerate well forced messages and propaganda
AccomplishedPoint465@reddit
I saw a lot of people criticize the movie for its messaging but personally i disassociated real life with the world they tried to set up. I don’t know why people tried to connect the right with trigger happy government towards civilians.
To me, it was a 3rd person prospective of civil war, and war in general. The certain casualties what will happen, and a underwhelming outcome. Sure, I was hoping for a more realistic scenario, but there was no why the movie we wanted was the one that was being made. We should’ve known it was gonna be one obviously bad, government side, and a free commonwealth side. Antagonist who targeted civilians dies at end. It wasn’t going to be a cohesive dive into the ideology of modern politics or what warrants or sparks revolutions.
