When they said it was an “elevated dining” experience, I didn’t think they meant this $19 vegan burger

Why are the pickles on top
ThisCarSmellsFunny@reddit
It’s a current trend. I don’t know why it started, but for the last couple of years I’ve seen it more and more. I hate it, it’s stupid.
Some people claim it’s so you know it has pickles on it, but that logic doesn’t make any sense, because then everything should be on top.
AahAaahAaaah@reddit
You’d know it has pickles on it if you literally just read the menu- it just sounds messy to put them on top

I would bet anything originally there was a fan of sliced avocado that raised the bun, and after sales dropped and the opening cooks left for better jobs, this is what we're left with
Gloomy-Restaurant-42@reddit
This is a f*cking embarrassment to vegan cooking.
I'm not vegan but I've eaten at several veg/vegan restaurants in my life because good ones are creative and flavorful.
This burger is offensively lazy and I would be ashamed to serve it to a dinner guest at my house, to say nothing of serving it to a paying customer.

Bro they have to, I mean look!!!
Lord_Phoenix95@reddit
While most places have something Vegan on the menu, they cannot be fully Vegan cause there will be a lot of cross contamination and before you say "just don't allow it" we do try our best to minimise cross contamination as that's our first priority when creating food.
gb-stylee@reddit
What are you on about? It’s not an allergy lol
vanillamonkey_@reddit
As a vegan, I can tell you cross contamination doesn't make a food not vegan. I don't want to spend my money on animal cruelty, that's all there is to it. As long as you don't specifically include animal-derived ingredients or cook with bacon grease or something, it's vegan.
TateAcolyte@reddit
Nah man, don't you know that real vegans walk around in bubble boy suits to avoid any incidental inhalation of animal particulate
vanillamonkey_@reddit
Every time my dog allergy is triggered, I flog myself with a cat-o-nine-tails (made with vegan leather, of course)
Lanoris@reddit
Cross contamination doesn't mean it's not Vegan.
It's a difference between cooking a Vegan burger on the same flat top as a non vegsn burger and then using bacon grease fo cook said Vegan burger. Most don't expect a non vegan restaurant to be 100% no cross contam, just that they aren't purposely putting animal products in the vegan products.

Don't need to look. Any chef with principles hates vegans.
broccoleet@reddit
This is exactly why I only really go to fully vegan restaurants as a vegan. Most chefs in normal restaurants just don't have the skill/creativity needed to make something worthwhile that's vegan - usually just a sad and lazy replacement option.
Jamiecakescrusader@reddit
While this is true, most of us will still try to give them a good dining experience, not this sad display.

This aint even a vegan patty. This is definitely meat. Look closely. OP lying to get more upvotes
K16180@reddit
99.9% sure that's an impossible burger right out of the freezer.
Spare-Plum@reddit
Have you had an impossible burger? The texture is much more homogeneous and resembles hamburger meat a lot more than a steak

This one doesn't look like ground beef or ground impossible burger at all. It looks like a cut of steak. You can see the rendered fat and sinews
K16180@reddit
Exactly, why grind up flesh and shape it into a none animal shape? On top of that why season that flesh with plants???
If you can't see the texture of the flesh what is even the point?
RearAdmiralP@reddit
I eat meat, but I also like fake meats, including fake burger patties. There are fake sausages that I like better than meat sausages. If it tastes good, who cares what it's made from? I would totally be interested in tofu made from meat too.
JessePinkman-chan@reddit

I dunno, I like a certain variety of avo that is called Bacon (not kidding) that is firm yet supple in a difficult to describe fashion. Shit is way better than standard hass. I've only seen them in Mexico, maybe we can get them in the states I don't know.
sarin_sunshine_95@reddit
I've learned if a restaurant has the word "modern" or "experience" anywhere in the description that I should stay far away. This looks like straight garbage, I would have sent it back without taking a bite.
jay_hiro_@reddit
Why are the pickles outside the burger 😭
Sanquinity@reddit
You know...I recently decided to give "vegan burgers" a try again. I accidentally bought vegan burgers instead of regular ones for a barbecue with the family. And I thought "well, I'll give them a try at least. Maybe they've improved vegan food over the past 5 years." They were supposed to be "cheddar vegan burgers".
They were dry, the texture was off, and about 3/4 of the taste was just cheddar. So, conclusion; No...no vegan meat replacements have NOT managed to improve over the past 5 years. As a meat lover, meat is still the way to go if you want anything meat related. So called "replacements" don't even come close.
ChocolateShot150@reddit
As another meat lover, you’re just wrong lmfao. You have to try good ones, not just any random ones. The beyond ones and the impossible ones fuck, they taste incredibly close to meat.
daversa@reddit
You tried one brand 🤷♂️. I eat meat and I still think Impossible and Beyond patties are both perfectly passable burgers at this point. They're not going to "fool" you but they're pretty decent.
Sanquinity@reddit
But that's the thing. Unless they manage to "fool me" I'm not going to give up meat for vegan options. Ever. Call me horrible all you want, but I like my meat too much. (Though I did reduce my regular meat intake by reducing the amount of meat I put in the food I cook by about 1/3.)

In Canada burger prices are up around the $25 for a quality level that varies wildly from one restaurant to another. It's been getting more and more difficult to find places that serve half-decent food any more... At least in the small towns of western Canada.

It's a somewhat common presentation for a pickle to be served on top of or beside a sandwich. Normally it would be a nice big quarter of a deli pickle though. The thinly sliced pickles in OP look like they're the kind of pickle that's my want to go inside the burger though. ~Probably~ Obviously just a pretentious chef trying to be fancy (changed to obviously based on the pickles choice plus the completely whacko/fucked way the avocados are stacked)
