787 Window Hack- Time it While They Lock It
For all the avgeeks like me who has their face glued to the window the whole flight (even over the ocean at night lol), I just found out that the 787 has windows where the flight crew can lock them to max dimness. What you can do other than asking the crew to unlock yours is when you see the windows start to dim, quickly adjust it to your liking and touch just overrides their controls. See the forum post I put for the main details. Does anyone have experience trying this?
ShiromoriTaketo@reddit
Thankfully the crew on my single 787 flight didn't lock the windows... Didn't even dim them once... (you were an awesome crew!) but just the possibility makes me like that aircraft type less than I otherwise would... I didn't opt (pay) for a window seat to not see the scenery, and I expect to be able to do so...
'Thank' you, Boeing, for an innovation that makes the world a worse place.
BoringBob84@reddit
It makes the world a better place for the other 300 passengers who can sleep without the glare from your window.
AardQuenIgni@reddit
If only there was a piece of fabric you could put over your eyes to block out light and help you sleep.
We could call it a ✨"sleeping mask"✨™️
BoringBob84@reddit
300 people should not have to adjust to the whims of 3 selfish people. On a 787, the passengers can sleep comfortably to minimize jet lag at their destinations.
ShiromoriTaketo@reddit
Dude... it's public travel, which is to say "expect to be uncomfortable"... Yea, Most of the time, you're not promised a 787 flight, though you could go out of your way to try, but then you're likely spending hundreds of extra dollars for your ticket, not to mention the thousands of extra dollars it costs the airline to have Boeing proprietary windows...
A 4$ piece of cloth is just a good idea to have handy...
Plus, you might run into assholes like me who want to use the window they paid to be able to use.
Now... if only Boeing could make proprietary seats that drown out the noise of the engines, seat neighbors, and those pesky mid-flight announcements.

You are the first clever person ever to try to use my user name as a personal insult to distract us from your lack of a valid argument. I am absolutely crushed by your superior intellect! /sarcasm 🙄
SAD-MAX-CZ@reddit
If you want to sleep, get eye patch. Works on a bus too!
BoringBob84@reddit
No thanks.
When I fly on a 787, I don't need to do that. The designers understood that, in every group of people, there will be some selfish people who will insist on doing whatever they want without regard to the consequences for everyone else.
Thus, the cabin crew on the 787 has the ability to limit the tint of all of the windows. I think it is awesome!
veihlihs_dagraet@reddit (OP)
You got lucky, heard that it happens like 95 percent of 787 flights lol
ShiromoriTaketo@reddit
I was expecting it, but surprised that it didn't... I guess it was dark where I was anyway, but the only time I felt like I couldn't see anything was when there was nothing to see... Not many lights over the Amazon at night. (GRU-DFW)
zzyzxrd@reddit
Window shade debate aside, I want to meet the ~~asshole~~ engineer that decided that blue ambient lighting was the best possible choice. I was on a flight a few weeks ago i was in a short flight and cabin crew left the blue lights on the whole flight. I wanted to strangle someone.
VulgarButFluent@reddit
The interior lighting has about 40-50 options, i can make it a rainbow dance party if i want to. Cabin crew messed you up
zzyzxrd@reddit
Good to know
VulgarButFluent@reddit
I mean i kinda want to try it on monday, but in actual practice they will just see yours isnt dimmed, go to the master fa panel select your zone or your seat and dim it if they really wanted to. Or of course, instruct you to dim it as they are allowed to.
boredlibertine@reddit
If that’s the case then they must really have a reason to want to do that. If it’s just a convenience thing then I would think a reasonable crew would leave any opt-outs alone.
VulgarButFluent@reddit
I assume theres a reason to use that feature, but i couldnt tell you what it is, i know its a common complaint with flying on 787s that some airlines lock them dimmed for some reason.
GabeLorca@reddit
Because it’s a lot easier for flight crew to work with the windows dimmed and not being blinded by bright light from outside, it’s easier on the passengers eyes and the rest of the passengers can enjoy a comfortable cabin without having that one guy having the blinds open.
TheCrudMan@reddit
And I get to ride in a fucking windowless tube instead of enjoying one of the most beautiful views humans get to see with our own eyes.
NHinAK@reddit
Hell yeah.
I paid for a window seat, for, you know, the window.
Don’t like the sun in the cabin? Pack sunglasses in your carryon next time.
the_silent_redditor@reddit
If you’re on a 16 hour flight, and there’s some guy with the window wide open and the sun shining directly in peoples’ eyes when the rest of the cabin is in darkness and trying to sleep because the relative time is like 0200..
Yeah, that guys an asshole.
At the end of the day, it’s basically a form of public transport, and if you’re causing discomfort to other people, then you’re a bit of a selfish prick.
_-Event-Horizon-_@reddit
You make some pretty good arguments. But it doesn’t matter, I’m keeping my window undimmed, looking through the window is like 99.99% of the fun in flying.
BoringBob84@reddit
Assholes like you are why the cabin crew have the ability to dim the windows in the 787.
_-Event-Horizon-_@reddit
Why don’t you calm down?
There is no inherent ethical or moral element to whether an airplane window will be dimmed or not. If two passengers disagree on that both them have the same right and ultimately one of them will probably be unhappy.
BoringBob84@reddit
It is better for three selfish assholes to be unhappy than 300 passengers who would like to minimize jet lag at their destinations to be unhappy.
the_silent_redditor@reddit
Fair enough, if you’re gunna be an asshole you may as well fuckin’ own it.
_-Event-Horizon-_@reddit
I could care, I guess. I just don’t ¯_(ツ)_/¯
ZaryaBubbler@reddit
The term is "couldn't care less"
the_silent_redditor@reddit
God! An asshole that can’t use simple phraseology! I hope I never end up on a flight with you!

Bring a sleep mask
Ausgeflippt@reddit
Or you could bring a sleep mask, you charlatan.
TheReverend5@reddit
What are you, 4 years old? Use the sleep mask like an adult instead of whining about other people choosing to use their windows. Crazy how entitled some adults are.
the_silent_redditor@reddit
I know 🤯
TheReverend5@reddit
You have to be remarkably stupid to think people using their own windows how they please - in their own seats, that they paid for - is somehow “entitlement.”
makebbq_notwar@reddit
Just got off QR DOH to DFW, everyone has eye mask
ericchen@reddit
Some people are just poorly socialized lol. The same people who make inane suggestions like wearing sunglasses while on an airplane are the ones who insist that their neighbors should wear earplugs in their own home so that the neighbors aren’t disturbed by loud music or noises that they’re making.
the_silent_redditor@reddit
Making these comments in an aviation sub is always gunna be a losing battle I guess. Haha.
Anyone who flies long haul or flies frequently, knows the pain of that one dickhead letting piercing sunlight streaming into the cabin, ruining everyone’s zen cause he wants to have a looksie out the window.
ericchen@reddit
I guess so, but it’s clear based on many years of flying that most people understand that they live in a society and adhere to social norms. Manufacturers offer dimmable windows and cabin crew override so that the minority don’t get to declare their opinion by lighting up the entire cabin.
talldata@reddit
Why are we calling the guy who wants to look out the window or have some light to do work the asshole instead of the one who didn't get a 2 buck sleepmask at the tax free.
CharacterUse@reddit
That "one dickhead" might be on his first ever long haul flight, or his first ever flight over that part of of the world. It might be the only time they get to fly over it for the rest of their life. They might have bought a window seat specifically to get a view, maybe even a specific view of a particular mountain or other feature. You don't know their circumstances.
Get over yourself, put a mask on like the rest of us, and let them enjoy it.
TGPF14@reddit
Wouldnt expecting others to conform to your needs when you can bring an eye mask (which does the job 110% better than closing windows but then leaving TVs on specially with half the cabin blasting them at near full bright...) make those trying to force those who paid money for the window the selfish pricks?!
Huh funny how it's a two way street like that isn't it...
Astroteuthis@reddit
If you want darkness, bring a sleeping mask. Better yet, let the airline provide them, as that wouldn’t be very expensive.
the_silent_redditor@reddit
Sure.
The point is, you have one person causing unpleasantness to a bunch of other people, requiring them to wear eye masks because someone wants to be a petulant child and look out a window to everyone else’s detriment.
jared_number_two@reddit
It’s poor-man’s spaceflight!
CharacterUse@reddit
Ok, so why dim them at night?
GabeLorca@reddit
Because at some point it will get bright outside, people will be sleeping and be very annoyed when they wake up from light from a window in their eyes.
CharacterUse@reddit
So dim them in the morning? It's not hard. You can probably even automate it.
GabeLorca@reddit
Sure, but that would require extra effort from flight staff so that’s not happening.
CharacterUse@reddit
A teensy weensy miniscule amount of effort.
1-800-THREE@reddit
How does my open window bother anyone else? This is that stupid seat reclining argument all over again
FiddlerOnThePotato@reddit
If the sun is at the correct angle, it can shine STRAIGHT into the cabin and be pretty uncomfortable after a little while, so there's that. I was on an 87 going from Schipol to Dulles and I remember that exact situation came up and the crew dimmed that whole side of the cabin.
1-800-THREE@reddit
That's fair. What about the other 99% of the time?
FiddlerOnThePotato@reddit
yeah I dunno what to tell you man
Maleficent-Salad3197@reddit
If your window is open and your not in the cockpit, you're definitely on a Boeing.
tomsawyerisme@reddit
also sleepy pax are easier to handle and require less work.
Limesmack91@reddit
Usually it's to help people align their day/night cycle to the one at their destination I believe
joesnopes@reddit
Rubbish! It's to encourage the passengers to sleep.
They never lock them undimmed.
SovereignAxe@reddit
A lot of people, like myself, have a terrible time at getting to sleep on an airplane. Having a day/night cycle that aligns with the destination is a game changer, and one of the reasons I love the 787.
burlycabin@reddit
Just wear an eye mask, man.
boredlibertine@reddit
That’s fair. I was just thinking that if I did this to beat the system and the crew took minutes out of their shift to override me then they must really really want it for some reason, and that overrides my desire to look out the window. Just from my experience as a Load, I’d rather make the crews day easier than make my flight memorable.
iamda5h@reddit
I mean, as a passenger, its extremely annoying if other passengers have their window open pouring light in on what is supposed to be an overnight flight.
TheReverend5@reddit
Then wear a sleep mask. “As a passenger,” worry about your own in flight experience and manage your own shit. It’s not other people’s job to cater to you.
Swimming_Way_7372@reddit
Let's say I'm working during the flight and only 1 person has their window open blinding me. Now let's say I don a sleeping mask, what is your suggestion at this point where I can no longer see my work because I am wearing a sleeping mask on your recommendation?
TheReverend5@reddit
Next time pick a seat closer to aircraft center. And choose a device with an anti-glare screen. I take a 100+ flights a year and the situation you described has never been an issue.
Again, it is absurd that you think your poor personal planning should impact how someone seated at the window should manage their window.
Swimming_Way_7372@reddit
I've been laser beamed right in the eyes in the center row in a wide body business class. Additionally the same is true when I'm at a window and it cime from the window across the aircraft. It's not the glare off the device, it's more about the sun directly in my eyes. If you're looking out the window and enjoying the view I'm cool with that. Too many people just fall asleep with their window open and no concern for anyone else situation.
iamda5h@reddit
Literally, what you just stated. It’s not the rest of the cabins job to cater to the one asshole that wants to look out the window while 100 other people can’t view their movies due to glare or sleep on an overnight flight. Fuck you bruv.
There’s a reason new planes automatically dim all the windows and FAs ask people to close their blinds.
TheReverend5@reddit
Uncommon AA W in this department: https://onemileatatime.com/american-airlines-787-window-dimmers/
If you can’t sleep due to other people’s windows, I’m sorry you’re too stupid to operate an eye mask.
iamda5h@reddit
Poo poo. Glad you like staring at nothing over an ocean for 8 hours and ruining everyone’s ability to watch a movie around you. Not everyone can sleep with shit strapped to their face.
_-Event-Horizon-_@reddit
As a passenger it’s also extremely annoying for somebody else to get to desire whether you should get a nice view or not.
iamda5h@reddit
It’s like walking into a hostel bedroom at 1 AM and turning the lights on instead of using your phone flashlight except in this case literally hundreds of people are trying to sleep. So rude. Most people who leave their window open aren’t even looking out. They’re just clueless.
ChuckyJa@reddit
I personally like to see the weather that could potentially unalive us. So I keep that window wide open the whole flight. Apologies in advance if you're sitting next to me.
Crq_panda@reddit
Former cabin crew here. We used to tape two coat hanger together to close windows from the isle for them flights from Europe to the states.
flukefluk@reddit
i mean, when retirement homes slip pills to patients because a sleeping retirement home is a happy retirement home, we don't like it.
starzuio@reddit
1.) Sleeping people require less work and FAs don't like serving people.
2.) It makes it more difficult to notice or record any issues. Lots of tape on the wing, missing panels, potential minor emergencies like compressor stalls, etc. Airlines want to avoid bad press.
3.) When flying over certain areas, they are required to cover the windows to avoid espionage related accusations.
First-Baseball-5090@reddit
Not correct
chicknsnotavegetabl@reddit
It's to allow others in the zone to see their screens, the glare interferes.
boredlibertine@reddit
Good point but that’s a customer vs customer thing. I could see giving it up to whoever cries the loudest depending on how tired I was.
ericchen@reddit
It’s easier to just lock the windows at the dimmest setting, and then there’s no fights since people can’t change them anyway.
chicknsnotavegetabl@reddit
Yep, pretty much. Id suggest policy is based around keeping majority happy sleeping or watching the ife on a long flight.
😂 Love the down votes above for stating what happens with no opinion either way
Reatona@reddit
That sounds like people who want to be glued to screens (which they can do 24/7 outside of a plane if they want) get to keep me from seeing the view from 35,000 feet, which (for me) is a fairly rare experience.
chicknsnotavegetabl@reddit
Yeap They just wanna get there and ignore the humanity jammed in around them.

ChequeOneTwoThree@reddit

morane-saulnier@reddit
OMG, don't give them any ideas... lol
ericchen@reddit
$2 per click up or down in brightness, but let people adjust anyone’s window shade. I’d love to watch the chaos that ensues and they’d print money.
csl512@reddit
Sense of pride and accomplishment
anonymouslosername@reddit
Haven't dealt with it yet, but is it an on/off setting? Or like a variable level?. If the latter, maybe go somewhere above full dark so a, it isn't too obvious, and b, they still get some dimming without losing your view totally.
BoringBob84@reddit
It is variable. Pretty awesome.
VulgarButFluent@reddit
There are 5 levels, but its noticable. Also the control panel can isolate seats, which has what level of dim each window is at by seat number.
anonymouslosername@reddit
Gotcha. thinking maybe at 3/5 or 4/5 instead of the full 5/5 dark it'll be enough for them to leave you be rather than overriding it.
VulgarButFluent@reddit
Potentially. I think the efficacy of this "hack" might depend really on just how they do it. The lock feature is independent of the brightness. So they can force dim the windows without locking them at all, and vice versa. Or they could leave the windows locked all the time and adjust the cabin as they see fit. the guy might just see it dimming and think he got it fast enough when in reality they just didnt lock it.
great_waldini@reddit
I haven’t tested this, but it sure seems consistent with what we know about the quality of Boeings software.
seattle747@reddit
This is why I’ve avoided the 787. Unfortunately, the 350 joins the 787 since Airbus has started delivering 350s with this feature. Stay with the 777, 380, 767 and 330.
jettech737@reddit
It does keep that one asshole from creating a bright spotlight in the cabin as everyone else is trying to sleep on a long flight.
SniperPilot@reddit
Interesting I think I discovered this by accident because the flight attendant couldn’t understand why my window was not being dimmed.
piranspride@reddit
Who TF is staring at the crew just to see IF and when they lock the windows?
Sacharon123@reddit
So you are one of the pax we have to do the extra PA for about "please LISTEN to the instructions of the cabin crew"? Just as an advice from the flightdeck, if you do shit like this on my flight, after a warning the second time you do this, I will organise that you will be met by police for interfering with aircraft equipment. We do not do stuff like this as a joke or for your inconvenience. And on a computer plane like the 787 abusing glitches like this has a (albeit small) chance of introducing system instability and system crashes of the CMS.
Fun_Letterhead491@reddit
I would love to be met by the police for this reason.

I really hate those dimming windows, the 787 is a great plane, its windows are nice and big but that dimming mechanism is a festering pile of donkey dung. We pay extra to get window to watch the world go by and instead we are faced with a deep blue pane.
The award goes to American Airlines that has forbidden cabin crew from messing with them!

oz81dog@reddit
Homestly, if i can help it i dont fly 787s because of the window dimming. Since my first flight at like age 2 i just stare out the window. Be damned if I let them take that pleasure away from me when i've a solid chunk of change for the flight.
Katana_DV20@reddit
I'm exactly the same. I never watch movies or listen to music on long flights, zero interest. The screen stays on the flight info page. It's between that, a good book..and looking out of the window 😀
The 787 may be a Dreamliner but tis windows are a Nightmare.
Icy-Swordfish-@reddit
Paying for a window seat isn't to look outside, it's to sleep against the sidewall and avoid being disturbed by people walking the isle.

This article was last updated in 2022. Is this still AA policy? I sure hope so
Katana_DV20@reddit
That is a good question, I hope so too. Maybe someone on here who flies on them a lot will tell us.
I also read that Airbus is joining the dimming party so we'll be seeing them on their jets too.
Deep sigh
seattle747@reddit
Indeed on Airbus, specifically the 350. My understanding is it’s limited to just that, which I hope is the case (meaning the 330neo would be excluded).

I hate that they do this, I get claustrophobic and I like to be able to see outside. I get that people want to sleep and I don’t want mine to be fully open, I just want it to be at the setting before blackout so I can see a little. I just avoid 787s now though instead.

God_Damnit_Nappa@reddit

Speaking of which, this is an especially useful feature on TPAC day flights, it stops someone who lacks awareness of their surroundings from lighting up the cabin for an entire 11 hour flight.

Believe it’s on longer flights to black out the cabin for people who are trying to sleep. But they don’t really mandate people put window shades down in older planes. So idk.
GabeLorca@reddit
I have been on many flights where they walk around telling people to put their shades down, especially in summer when it’s bright for so many hours.
Reatona@reddit
I've had them tell people that on a 4 hour flight departing at 10 a.m.

Drives me batty when they dim the cabin during daytime flights. Come on, guys, our internal clocks are already screwy enough without you making it worse.
zydeco100@reddit
No shit. The key to getting past jet lag is to get on local time ASAP, including sunlight. These FAs just want everyone asleep until the lights come on for "breakfast" at 13:30 local time.

ericchen@reddit
Hopefully they fix it in a firmware update, although that’s probably not coming any time soon.
joesnopes@reddit
Not coming ever I'd expect. 787 cabin crew would mutiny. They love that dimming control.
postmodernist1987@reddit
You are explaining how to hack a safety feature. What is wrong with you?
talldata@reddit
Next thing you're gonna say WiFi is a safety feature.
postmodernist1987@reddit
Wifi is not a safety feature.
postmodernist1987@reddit
Unless hacked, they automatically default to clear when the plane is parked, which is an important safety consideration at night. That way people's eyes are already adjusted to the light outside in case of evacuation. This is why window shades are opened fully during take off and landing and this is manually checked by aircraft staff for manual shades.
Hacking risks that they do not function correctly during take off and landing.
This is the main reason why they are a safety feature.
Now, please all feel free to make contorted arguments to try to justify hacking a safety feature in airplanes. Shame on you all.
BoysLinuses@reddit
It ain't a safety feature.
Jumpy_Bison_@reddit
Pax being able to independently look outside in an emergency to see any hazards before disembarking seems like a safety feature. We shouldn’t assume the crew would have the ability to reset the system quickly enough or have good visibility and communication in all circumstances themselves.
starzuio@reddit
It can be. When flying over sensitive and contested territory, they are required to block the view in order to avoid espionage accusations.
KehreAzerith@reddit
Dude window shades aren't a safety feature XD
postmodernist1987@reddit

Ittorchicer@reddit
how the fuck is keeping a window from being adjusted in brightness a damn safety feature 😭😭

Step 1: Say dimming windows is a safety feature.
Step 2: ????
Step 3: Profit.
bobre737@reddit
Ugh, this really grinds my gears. A few days ago, I flew from Europe to California on a 787 with dimmable windows. I was in a small cabin with only four rows of seats in a 2-3-2 configuration. As we were approaching Greenland, the sky below suddenly cleared, and I could see dozens of large ships on the water. It was an interesting sight. Then I realized the ships had irregular shapes, and some of them were round. Oil platforms? ICEBERGS! It took me a moment to realize, as I’d never seen them before. Every other time I flew this route, it was either at night or overcast.
Then the coast of Greenland came into view. It was one of the most beautiful scenes I’ve ever seen: a rugged coastline followed by snowy mountains and glaciers. Someone on the other side of the cabin exclaimed, “Greenland!” Most people leaned toward the windows in awe, and even some of those in the center seats got up to take a glance. People were taking pictures and enjoying the view.
And then, at that very moment, the flight attendants decided it was nap time and locked the windows at the darkest setting. I was so mad. Why would they do that? To make it worse, the departure time was 4 p.m. and the arrival time was 9 p.m. That meant it was sunny the whole flight, and we were supposed to arrive shortly after sunset — perfect timing to make jet lag easier. All you need to do is watch the daylight throughout the flight, then go straight to sleep when you arrive. But nope, the flight attendants ruined all of that, and the beautiful views, by forcing everyone to sit in the dark.
veihlihs_dagraet@reddit (OP)
Did you talk with them beforehand?
CharacterUse@reddit
Why would they talk to the FAs beforehand? No one seems to have expected that they would dim the windows on that flight for no apparent reason (giving the timing).
talldata@reddit
At that point I'd have organized with a few passengers to ask very kindly "WHAT THE FUCK?"
Recent-Ad-9975@reddit
This is what I did then other passengers complained and I showed them „see I‘m pressing the button but it doesn‘t do anything“ and that was it.
veihlihs_dagraet@reddit (OP)
well now they know 😄
Kotukunui@reddit
I also found the window dimming on the 787 is no match for the blazing direct sun. We were flying west-ish and so the sun was refusing to set as we chased the terminator, it came in through the strongest dimming, not particularly blocked for what seemed like hours.
Dammew@reddit
Would the FA unlock a specific window if I tell them I'm claustrophobic? Ofc I wouldn't leave it on full brightness but like next to black, I really enjoy looking out during flight even if it's only sea and clouds below...
veihlihs_dagraet@reddit (OP)

does the a350 have a window tint lock as well? If so I’ll prolly just stick to the good ole 77w next time I fly across the ocean
ripped_andsweet@reddit
it’s available as an option now on the 350
RoooDog@reddit
Virgin Atlantic A350’s have window slides

I fly over the pacific most of the time haha but thanks

I'm selling this hack to my next flight. They can't stop us all.
IChurnToBurn@reddit
Yeah, knowing Boeing’s level of engineering, I’m not going to do anything that could possibly cause a glitch in the software.

"The NTSB concluded that window dimming system (WDS) was poorly designed, causing inputs to also move the elevator."
IChurnToBurn@reddit
Who know that coding “if FA_windowshade_down == passages_windowshade_up: return aircraft_nosedive_ground()” would do that
source4mini@reddit
When they accidentally shadowed the variable name “level” to mean both window dimness level and flight level
exadeuce@reddit
When you are at max setting on the window and hit "increase tint" the integer rollover commands the autopilot to descent to -32768 feet

Do what any good SE does and blame it on floating point arithmetic.

i was once on a 777 and the ife was bootlooping
FiddlerOnThePotato@reddit
well that's a grounding writeup for sure
Temporary-Wear5948@reddit
Oh no your glorified android tablet was bootlooping…

IFE has absolutely nothing to do with the aircraft systems beyond just taking power from the aircraft’s electrical system.
SwissCanuck@reddit
Yeah that Boeing made IFE system… what’s it called again? Oh right, snappy name, ItDoesntExist.
IChurnToBurn@reddit
I’ve made the error multiple times of watching the flight tracker for the 1st hour on a 767 and locking the IFE into the flight tracker for the rest of the flight.
CallumG1996@reddit
The dimmable window system has a one to five setting (five being the darkest): start, lock and stop button. The crew can set to five then start then lock - this will set the windows. Additionally you can inhibit the passenger control per window also.
Dimmable door windows do are not connected to this system.
Looking from the system panel up/down the cabin, it’s easy to see the light flooding into the cabin when you’re flying into the early morning.

Or, alternative suggestion: don’t be that guy who is annoying everyone nearby that’s trying to sleep. What the hell are you you looking at out there anyway, the clouds?
veihlihs_dagraet@reddit (OP)
Yeah I saw a big dildo shaped cloud I’m just tryna get the clearest view so I can moan the loudest in the cabin
BadRegEx@reddit
If the cloud gets big enough then rain comes out.

You're in the Aviation sub... There's lots and lots of people here that LOVE to look out the window of a plane.
