Man knocks out women waiting at Downtown Dallas intersection

How did we get here?! It hurts that the bystanders are just walking away without a care in the world. Be a decent human.

frankly_highman@reddit
I mean, if you were in the same situation. I don't think your gun would have helped.
MASSiVELYHungPeacock@reddit
Nope. I've been stabbed by a stranger hopped up on meth, huge ka-bar knife, nearly went all the way through me, but I was young and strong 6ft/200lbs and popped him with an elbow that starred him enough he fell on his ass. Came up from behind, just like this. Immediately took off like a track runner blood shooting everywhere, stole an already hailed cab who saw started to tell me to fuck off till I let go of my lower black and blood sprayed everywhere. Got me to the ER in 2mins, lucked out no organs were damaged and while stuff like that doesn't screw me up psychologically in the least, I never allow strangers to approach me from behind, always two steps ahead of problems, loce parking my ass in far corners.

The downtown dallas homeless strike again.
noncongruent@reddit
The video is too poor to make any inferences about this perp's living status. For all you know he's an executive at a local bank.
playballer@reddit
That’s my point exactly, where’s the proof this was even a human offender? I won’t settle for anything less than a dna derived clone of this person as evidence

I’ll eat my hat if the offender is an executive at a local bank. All I ask in return. Is if it turns out to be a homeless individual you make a sizable donation to a charity. Deal?
NarcoDeNarcos@reddit
Guess sometimes you actually need to explicity write SARCASAM upper case and bold for some people.
IFuckedADog@reddit
No, no, no, this is somebody experiencing homelessness and in a mental health crisis. We must be patient with these people. ^/s
HolyForkingBrit@reddit
We should though. We need more social supports.
internet_dipshit@reddit
They can be mutually exclusive. Think of that was your mother. You still want to be patient?
HolyForkingBrit@reddit
Yeah. My mom was a piece of work. I think pinning this on all homeless people is excessive. There are bad apples who are housed too. There’s are bad apples everywhere. It’s not just unhoused people.
internet_dipshit@reddit
It’s obviously a complex issue and funding is one component of that. I agree for sure on that. I like your profile btw.
captainn_chunk@reddit
Please stop acting like this towards all homelessness. It’s naive as all fuck and does nothing but show how woke you’re trying to be about homelessness.
It’s a honestly a crappy projection of what society actually is instead of the preaching you think it is.

Scary to see how many talk about their guns when they see this video. It's sad that so many people would have used this as an excuse to murder this man. I'm guessing all of the people saying this are white. Any excuse to murder a black man, right, whitey?
Kuchie_Kopi@reddit
I doubt it’s related to the shooting. More likely related to the man who was randomly attacked with a tree branch on Elm Street. https://www.fox4news.com/video/1477430
I was almost attacked at the corner of Main and Field street in broad daylight on a weekday afternoon. It was unprovoked and I am thankful I was aware of my surroundings so I could get away in time.
3n1gma302@reddit
Oh wow that attack does seem eerily similar to the one posted here. Are serial attackers a thing? Hope the guy gets caught
Kuchie_Kopi@reddit
I hope he gets caught too, and I hope the woman is okay. I don’t know about how common attacks are but I would be careful and be aware of your surroundings anywhere you go.
ihml1968@reddit
That hit was one thing but her head bouncing off the pole is very concerning for me. Like the mega grown up edition of shaken baby syndrome. Honestly I'm surprised if that first blow didn't crush her skull or break her neck. If she survives this without permanent damage it'll be a miracle. At this point I want those "see behind you" sunglasses they had on TV in the 90s. Apparently they're still on the market on Amazon.
Appropriate-Dot8516@reddit
That's why I hate how this is reported. "Knocked out." Attacks like these can be, and often are, life-altering.
Later2theparty@reddit
I was listening to a podcast where they had a story of a guy attacking people like this. He did it at least two times. Killed one guy with a hammer and the second person survived. He was going to try and attack another when he was stopped by someone and arrested. Just absolutely crazy. Homeless, had no concept for reality.
First-Delay8239@reddit
I had a guy puff his chest at me at St. Paul station several months ago between 6a-7a. Seemed like he really wanted to do something but I just ignored him. People are crazy
Xyllus@reddit
What (almost) happened to you?
Kuchie_Kopi@reddit
It was on Main Street on the Jason’s Deli side of the street. I was approaching field street when I noticed a man at the cross walk not crossing the street even though he had the right of way and the other side had no cars coming. It looked off to me so I hung back about 15 feet waiting for him to move when he started pacing very fast and making punching motions. I stayed my distance and started walking slowly backwards hoping I could just get away unnoticed. He saw me move I guess and ran at me swinging at my face. I had to jump back. I screamed for help. He kept advancing and swinging at me. I kept jumping back and I didn’t know what to do except keep backing up until some people approached or I could get into Jason’s Deli. Thankfully people did walk up behind me and I think that scared him off. He took off. I tried to warn those people to be careful but they just had their head down and headphones in looking at their phones. I was able to find a police officer on Main Street pretty quickly give a description of the guy and what happened. I found out later from friends who also work downtown the guy was spotted going down field and akard trying to punch multiple people. Several people called the police about him because he was a danger to others and himself. He wasn’t the same guy in the two videos shared here. The guy who tried to punch me was definitely out of his mind. He didn’t say anything or try to rob me he just wanted to punch me like I was the one after him.
Xyllus@reddit
Geez that's terrifying. I'm glad you're ok!
Kuchie_Kopi@reddit
Thanks me too. I rarely if ever walk out for lunch on my own anymore just not worth it. I had another person harass me for not giving her any money on elm a few weeks after the attack. I wasn’t afraid then because lots of people were around but the woman was relentless thinking she could insult me enough I would feel guilted into giving her money. It was great because I was rescued by a german shepherd! A person was taking a run with their dog on elm from the opposite direction and the dog ran up got between me and the woman yelling at me. The dog turned its back to me and growled at the woman. The woman got scared and left. Then the dog turned to me and wagged its tail. I was super thankful to the dog. Definitely my hero for the day.
_DOA_@reddit
What happened in your case? Maybe giving the details to police will help them solve this one.
CharlieTeller@reddit
This happened around the shooting I believe. I was listening to the scanners and her description matches.
greg_barton@reddit
Was the Elm Street attacker ever caught? This recent attack is virtually identical: swinging a long stick, from right to left, blow to the back of the head.
Cubster84@reddit
So crazy I saw that shit on Reddit and turned out to be my friend. I believe they didn’t catch the guy.
Kuchie_Kopi@reddit
How is your friend doing? I recall his injuries looked bad.
Cubster84@reddit
He got clipped in the back of the neck so it was a gnarly hit. The concussion was pretty serious because the hit plus the concrete. Last I talked to him he is all better.
Kuchie_Kopi@reddit
Thanks for the update. I’m glad he’s doing better now.
Kuchie_Kopi@reddit
If they were caught I am not sure it made the news. I’m not sure it’s the same person but it’s a strong possibility.
My attacker wasn’t carrying a big object thankfully. He wasn’t trying to rob me he just seemed to be out of his mind. People walked up behind me so I think that’s ultimately what made the man back up. But they all had their heads down with headphones in when they passed me. I tried to warn them someone is nearby attacking people but they just kept walking. I was able to find an officer on the street pretty quickly and report what happened to me.
dwellinator@reddit
Glad those folks ran to help her quickly.
AstrosJones@reddit
This case could be closed if those people had the guts to do something

Bigfoots_Mailman@reddit
How's that working out for ya?
Sorry-Welder-8044@reddit
I lived downtown for 12 years. The first time some stupid ass kids tried to rob me at gunpoint I figured it was a fluke. After the second time I bought a pistol. Not gonna die because some people are garbage cunts.
Dry-Editor-1335@reddit
obviously either you or they are now that everyone has a gun.
Randomhero3@reddit
Tell that to the south
toodleroo@reddit
I don't know what bothers me more... the initial attack, or those people just walking past like nothing happened.
Rakebleed@reddit
I think it’s the latter for me. One crazy guy happens but a society where no one gives a fuck is terrifying.
noncongruent@reddit
I'm not sure it's possible to extrapolate the actions of three bystanders to the entire metroplex population of over 8M people, much less the Dallas population of 1.3M+. The video only lasts a few seconds and pans away from the victim within 8 seconds of the attack. We don't see who rushes up to help the victim after the 8 second mark, for all we know it may have been dozens.
As to why the three people that are visible didn't go after the perp, keep in mind that most people aren't combat trained or armed, so going after an armed person would be considered foolish. And armed people? Sure, you could go after the guy, pull out your gun, then kill him when he takes a swing at you with his club, but you'll be prosecuted for some sort of aggravated assault or even murder. Vigilante justice is really looked down on in a civilized society, and it wouldn't take much effort to show the guy swinging the club was doing do in self defense.
Ultimately, though, the video is simply too short and incomplete to make an inferences about society from it. Trying to say that society has failed because of this video is just as meaningless as trying to say an entire culture eats pets based on one picture of a random person holding a dead goose.
boldjoy0050@reddit
My wife was verbally and physically assaulted on CTA in Chicago several times. Each time, not a single person did a thing. It’s sad but I think people are afraid of crazies or ending up on YouTube.
_DOA_@reddit
I don't think most here are suggesting they had to "go after the perp." They appear to just walk away, rather than checking on the victim at all. That's what I think they're commenting on.
yachster@reddit
This is actually a pretty common mugging technique. Someone knocks someone over, you go to help them, and get pickpocketed.
Not saying that’s what happened here, but I can understand if someone witnesses this and is apprehensive. Sad reality tbh..

Yeah, I'm voting "YES" to make random violence illegal, too.
Significant_Alarm_81@reddit (OP)
Vote for tougher DA and politicians that are tougher on crime. These judges are letting capital murder and other violent suspects on PR or low bonds with ankle monitor. We say we care about gun violence, then letting felon with guns out on ankle monitors.
noncongruent@reddit
Got a link?
Significant_Alarm_81@reddit (OP)
Google and there’s multiple news article. County commissioner Price talked to local tv station last year about holding these judges accountable and not expanding the county jail system. He said multiple floors and jails at county were closed for COVID and they still haven’t reopened it. They lowered the capacity numbers and haven’t raised it back up even though our population is increasing. This is an old article about murders on low bond or PR bond.
https://www.fox4news.com/news/dallas-violent-crime-bail-murder

I didn't see anything there about capital murder suspects being released on Personal Recognizance or low bonds with ankle monitors. Maybe you didn't meant to say that?

Theres so many more. County commissioners said we have over 250 capital murder suspect out with an ankle monitor. I watch local news religiously.
noncongruent@reddit
That's three cases, the middle two stories are the same person, since 2021. None of them were PR releases like you claimed. Also, if the county commissioner stated there were "over 250 capital murder suspects out with an ankle monitor" then something got seriously misinterpreted or misheard. In all of Dallas County last year there were only 44 capital murder prosecutions.
Significant_Alarm_81@reddit (OP)
There are murder cases that are 3 years and older that still haven’t been to court. Dallas county courts average turn around for trial is 1.5 years. Source I used to work at LEWS.
noncongruent@reddit
So, at 44 cases prosecuted last year, there are many, many years worth of capital murder cases where the suspect is bonded out with an ankle monitor?
jessreally@reddit

Outrageous_Log_906@reddit
This is shocking actually. The people crossing the street acted like they didn’t just watch this heinous attack. Praying for this woman.
yumyumgivemesome@reddit
We really need to see the whole video. Maybe those bystanders turned back to help just a few seconds later or maybe nobody helped the woman for minutes. Either way it’s important to know what type of people live in this city.
noncongruent@reddit
I bet money the news station got the whole video, it would show how many seconds it took for people to come to the woman's aid.
yumyumgivemesome@reddit
Any idea why I was down voted? Do people in this subreddit not care how long it took for bystanders to render aid?
noncongruent@reddit
Seems there's an effort to try and imply bad things about all of Dallas' residents based on a few seconds out of this video showing the actions of just three people, and just a few seconds of those actions. I wouldn't worry about downvotes with your karma, lol.
yumyumgivemesome@reddit
Thanks. Not worried about downvotes. Just want to know more of the story. People may assume bad things, but I just wanna know why. I am genuinely curious.
noncongruent@reddit
It's always like this every election year, people start posting all sorts of stories that are meant to make cities look bad, because cities are typically more blue than red. After the election is over the stories and their pushers fade back into the mist like the ships in Arrival.
DeezeyNuts@reddit
As sad as it is you’ll live a longer life minding your business. Playing Superman or interfering can have grave consequences.
Matzah_Rella@reddit
I'd agree if they had accosted the attacker, but they didn't. This whole thing unfolded within their line of sight and they b-lined it for the opposite direction. Not rendering any aid, hell at the very least seeing if she's okay, is shameful.
cowboysmavs@reddit
We aren’t talking about chasing down the attacker we are talking about checking on the poor woman and calling 911.
Footspork@reddit
“What are you gonna do, stab me?
AeroWrench@reddit
I mean, the dude took off. Someone could have been at least checked on her and called an ambulance.
ihml1968@reddit
I'm with you on that. It's one thing to run after an attacker and possibly get hurt, so we can make an excuse for that. But there is no excuse for them to not even run up to the woman or at the very least pull out their phone and dial 911 to get police and ambulance there to help her. That's what's disturbing for me. The crazy guy is one thing, but the fact that nobody did anything is really sad.
OkAnalyst2781@reddit
And living in Texas all you hear is stuff like,”if we all had guns stuff like this^ wouldn’t happen”, but you can’t cure people being psycho with a gun and they probably don’t fear fatal injuries anyway sad shit, Dallas can be beautiful and a lot of fun, but you gotta watch your back cause everyone else will be too busy to even notice 😢

There's really no point since DPD won't do anything about the bums down in that area. narconaught5@reddit
Democrats are soft on crime, defund the police, and enable ramped homelessness. What did anyone expect would happen?
noncongruent@reddit
The Allas police budget has doubled in the last five years, it's over $1B now. No police have been "defunded". The whole defund movement wasn't about reducing police budgets anyway, it was about shifting money in police budgets toward non-violent and non-escalatory responders for situations that didn't require an armed officer. Too many unnecessary deaths over the years have resulted from sending armed police to a situation that really needed mental health care professionals trained in helping people in crisis. Police are trained to see everyone as a threat and that training includes using their service weapon as a first choice to kill anyone or anything they see as a threat, which is basically everyone and everything. It's why they shoot so many pets, shoot children, shoot people in their underwear who are clearly unarmed, shoot therapists defending their autistic patients, etc.
narconaught5@reddit
I don't know how your response is at all addressing my statement and instead focusing on the defining the defund part. Regardless of the budget, the defund movement marketing was/is a huge middle finger to the LE community as a whole. We've seen a decrease in community policing, DAs refusing to punish petty (in some instances serious) crimes, & staffing is challenging. More police presence is a direct deterant to crimes, stiffer punishment decreases crime, in this city (like many others) a pullback from fundamental criminal justice doctrine (broken windows) has been abandoned. Thus, lawlessness, dangerous road rage conditions, reduced services from LE (have you had to report a car break-in lately) in the way of non-investigations of petty left, car jacking rings, etc. There are homeless camps all over the city. Just because the budget is raised doesn't mean anything if the police do nothing to prevent crime.
noncongruent@reddit
Your vision of the prevalence of crime and lack of enforcement in this country is a hallucination. I don't know what else to say about that.
narconaught5@reddit
If that is true, and it might be (anything is possible), why are we seeing an innocent woman being skulled and possibly permanently scared by a lunatic?
Nosfermarki@reddit
Because isolated incidents aren't indicative of how a city of millions of people are faring as a whole.
Footspork@reddit
Defund the police is about more deescalation training and fewer tanks and grenade launchers, not about reducing the number of officers enforcing laws on our streets and in our communities FYI.

Maybe crime is a bit more complicated than you think.
narconaught5@reddit
He doesn't control the government, the city council has a huge vote. He's just a small part, so it doesn't matter what he wants to do, he's got to get the majority of the council to agree. If you have some time, read up on how the city govt works. I was a cop for 10 years. I know exactly how crime works. Smh men need to step up in this world and start putting these criminals in their place. We have to be each others first responders because anything can happen in the 5-12 minutes it takes for LE to arrive on scene.
Legally thinking: if one of those people were carrying and shot the guy to end the threat after the lady was knocked out, would that be justified in court? Or would the better option be to run that criminal down, tackle and detain until police arrive?
Personally my first thought would be going to my pistol (I train a lot and am confident in my skills). However, since it happened and ended so quick idk if I’d be able to get a shot of while he was considered a threat still.
This is a Pro 2A state, so take advantage of it! Get your LTC, take a defensive course, and then train on your own. The ONLY person you can count on protecting you and your family is YOURSELF! Especially for the ladies out there!
Footspork@reddit
Punching someone like that is attempted murder, I’m willing to bet you’d dodge a conviction in a court of your peers but it’s leaving a LOT of your future out of your hands if you draw a weapon in a situation like this.
noncongruent@reddit
Texas doesn't have an "attempted murder" charge because it would require proving intent, something that's basically impossible without mind-reading technology. In this case the perp committed aggravated assault because he used a weapon, which would be charged as a second degree felony.
noncongruent@reddit
If someone shot the perp as they walked away the shooter would get prosecuted for aggravated assault or murder. The shooter would not be able to claim self-defense, and would not be able to claim they were standing their ground. The shooter would also likely get successfully sued in court by the perp or his survivors.
nihouma@reddit
I'm not sure what I would have done if I were in that situation, but vigilante justice is not what I'd prefer seeing because eventually some schmuck will overreact to a perceived slight and start shooting at them in "self defense" or hitting an innocent bystander, making the situation far worse.
Plus if the guy has a gun himself, now we're in a potential shootout.
Guns in every persons hands are not the answer to violence. Even well trained people with an LTC can make mistakes and overreact or misjudge a scenario which is how Botham Jean died, because a well trained person misjudged the scenario and overreacted. And the cop who did it was, well, a cop likely with significantly more training than your average joe

You sir are a dumb fuck. Literally too dumb to see past the color of a person’s skin.

NPCs in GTA would’ve at least start running away. This is somehow worse.

We're not, and even if you do carry, there are various reasons it may not help in this situation:
She was blindsided, so zero time to react on her part.
Your mileage may vary but the law generally frowns upon, say, a citizen drawing and forcing a perp to get down. Reason being the standard is generally you only draw if you or someone else is in imminent danger; if the guy drops the weapon and is just moseying along, well, it may be hard to prove that you felt you or someone else was in imminent danger. I'm sure a lawyer could better articulate, and may even say I'm wrong, but for better or worse, carrying generally doesn't mean you can play cop. Now, would a jury convict you? That's another question, but going through a trial is still a pain in the ass.
You might generally carry, but your office doesn't allow weapons on-site. Pretty common in government work, for instance. If you don't have your gun on you, you can't just conjure it.
