The potholes are getting out of control

All through Plano it's like driving through a minefield now. It feels like every 10-20 ft there is another pothole with some absurdly bad. Over by HEB going north on Preston I've seen multiple people have flat tires on one that is incredible deep in the far left lane. Are there just too many people living here now? Is it the big 18 wheelers driving on roads they should be on?
AlphaBravo1978@reddit
I always believe Plano is much better than the rest of the older suburbs in road quality. At least they are doing something about it. I work in Las collinas and have changed my driving to accommodate potholes and ruts for last 6 years. It has been the same and nothing has been done.
sirZofSwagger@reddit
Seriously though. Plano has way better roads than 90% of the metroplex
Cecil900@reddit
God there is massive one on Sam Rayburn/121 across two lanes. That thing could kill a motorcyclist going full freeway speed.
happy_puppy25@reddit
Report it on 311
runfayfun@reddit
Hillcrest basically from NW Hwy north may as well not be paved.
Icy-Essay-8280@reddit
Yes, and if you really want potholes go to Dallas. Iveydamaged a wheel on a pithole in Plano but they are probably the best localy to take care of them. The biggest problem is the construction crews take iver a large sectyof road for 1.5 - 2 tears ti get the job done.
JuliusSeizuresalad@reddit
If Plano can’t fill a pothole what’s the chance us poor cities have of getting a road fixed.
Aliecat78@reddit
I feel like parker is worse than it was when they started. And I can't tell what they are doing. Seems like every week they dig up another spot they had dug up a year ago
UltraMegaMe@reddit
It's obviously not worse than it started because it doesn't have an obsolete water main running underneath it.
City of Plano just posted in this subreddit like 2 weeks ago what is happening now on Parker, the water main is done, the connections from the water mains into neighborhoods are done, the inside lanes are done so now they are working on the outer 2 lanes in both directions to get the road ready for the asphalt overlay in the spring.
Aliecat78@reddit
I know what they're doing. But the only lane worth a damn is the left lane and only for about 1 mile. All I'm saying is parker better be ss smooth as silk when they are done.
Middle-Ant-6104@reddit
Does any road in Plano without road work?
Aliecat78@reddit
Not really . But they sure did complete the black top on Parkwood in the fancier area. pretty quick
UltraMegaMe@reddit
They did that while the road surface was still in good enough condition to overlay to avoid having to do major repairs on it later before putting the overlay on it down the road.

Do you smell burnt toast? You might want to check your sentence again.
Alive_in_Platos_Cave@reddit
This person is probably not a native English speaker, so you might want to check your privilege again.
HiTop41@reddit
Not going to argue with what you said, but you didn’t comment about privilege when someone said ‘East of Preston’
Alive_in_Platos_Cave@reddit
Because it’s accurate, and not individuals in this subreddit impacting the disparity in road quality or insulting another about it. Now, if we were at a city council meeting, that might be the place to call it out. But East Plano has better park/ nature preserve privilege, so there’s that! 😅
PseudonymIncognito@reddit
Yep, just checked and it's still there. Thanks for reminding me. I was afraid I might have lost it.
Texas_Mike_CowboyFan@reddit
I did that for few near my house and they didn't even reapond, much less fix them. Did they stop doing this.
buzzlegummed@reddit
Report potholes on Preston road (hwy289) to the state. The state fixed the mismatched height on the bridge just south of hedgecox with in two weeks of my complaint. It was a simple fix just like a pothole.
c2seedy@reddit
You have no idea how good you have it.
Delicious-Sail-2085@reddit
This is why I drive a big SUV with big 20 inch tires. It handles the potholes a lot better than my little Mustang, LOL.
happy_puppy25@reddit
SUVs create more weight for the suspension and wheels to handle, and you want the smallest wheels possible, thickest tires, for potholes. Not to mention that heavier cars make roads significantly worse
PossibleOk5302@reddit
That pothole by HEB is huge.
happy_puppy25@reddit
I thought i was losing it when I saw it. Like how is it still there. It should be coned off and that lane closed.
Based_Ghost_@reddit
The one on Preston by HEB at spring creek is insane. Make sure you report it on the Plano Fix It app.
happy_puppy25@reddit
I reported one in Dallas, it’s going north in the right lane just after 635. The city is supposed to fix the hazardous ones within 1 calendar day, but with it being a state owned road, who knows
WrathRaid3300@reddit
agreed. Its bad, especially in the northbound lanes passing HEB.
jlim0930@reddit
Lights in Plano are all out of sync also
Cloudy_Automation@reddit
They are replacing the signal control systems for 240 intersections under Plano's control. This should make synchronization better. It's impossible to completely synchronize all directions, so moderate improvements might be the best we can hope for. Also, synchronization is frequently tied to the speed limit, so exceeding the limit on a synchronized direction just leads to the light not turning green soon enough.

Delicious-Sail-2085@reddit
This would be a good use of AI to actively adjust the timing of lights to reduce congestion which would ultimately reduce air pollution & reduce gas consumption.
Slow_Marsupial_4820@reddit
I've reported potholes through Fix It Plano and they are usually patched within a couple of weeks. Fix It Plano | Plano, TX - Official Website
SportingDirector@reddit
Nahh are we turning into one of the other states
dageekywon@reddit
Construction signs went up starting at PGBT to 121 this week on Preston, guess they are going to be working on Planos section shortly, the signs say 6 miles or so for that section.
Always seems like the concrete starts falling apart when the heat hits in August but this year seems a lot worse for some reason.
DDDavinnn@reddit
I reported that exact pothole last week. Apparently it’s not even city of Plano, but TX DOT? Either way, it’s at least a known issue. What they do with that information remains to be seen.
Matchboxx@reddit
Interesting. Preston is a state route so I guess it makes sense that the city would point to the state. I think Custer is also technically an FM road, so we are seeing a pattern here.
runfayfun@reddit
Makes me wonder about the return of all that money to taxpayers. Obviously had to come from somewhere.
maxcoiner@reddit
At this point the whole state of Oklahoma is employed fixing the roads of just the plano city roads, but we still don't see any progress from year to year...
Gangstasheriff@reddit
Try riding a Harley out here.
Go check out the northern states! You’ll love it

aaaggggrrrrimapirare@reddit
Just moved here from nola. Big lols to pothole complaining.

Good thing we pay property AND sales taxes!
FollowingNo4648@reddit
It's all over DFW. I feel like I'm off-roading everywhere I drive. Also due to the hit weather in the summer, the ground shrinks so there are these huge dips everywhere they give my struts a run for my money.
zatchstar@reddit
TxDOT maintains Preston road so we are at the mercy of the state rather than the city
Loud_Internet572@reddit
I think it's a combination of increased traffic (yes, too many people) and the heat causing everything to buckle/crumble. I imagine it's only going to get worse the longer we go.
tradenpaint@reddit
Grayson County same thing, very little road repair being done
ameyabee@reddit
Texas roads = ass
Ok_Argument9186@reddit
I live up in Celina which has its own road issues. Park Blvd in Plano is terrible to drive on.
Solololololololololo@reddit
Plano’s roads are pretty good compared to some areas in mesquite I’ve been through and a whole lot of other areas in the DFW area.
Alive_in_Platos_Cave@reddit
I’ve seen an LPT on Reddit about spray painting phallic images around the potholes as incentive for expedited repair. But I would not want to be caught by Plano PD doing this. 🥴
therealallpro@reddit
Man do I have some bad news for you about how common and how expensive road maintenance is haha
Confusedsoul2292@reddit
So much constructions everywhereeee! Makes you really think they’re doing something…. 🥴
sfa1500@reddit
Roads were built 40 years ago for the standards of the time. We've tripled our population since then and so has every city around us. They are taking a beating.
Also Preston Road fun fact is maintained by TXDOT because it retains its highway status from back in the day.
No_Lingonberry_1165@reddit
custer is trash
chevchelios179@reddit
I was literally just thinking that yesterday! Once you go anywhere east of Preston, it’s a nightmare!
