KIA Rio Sports-Pac. For when you want a WRX STi but don't have the driving experience or the money required to get a beast like that. Apart from the lowered suspension- it didn't have any significant upgrades over the normal Rio. Not even all-wheel drive or a turbo in the engine.

Where can o get this pack from? I’ve got a stock kia rio 2004 sedan and I can’t find nowhere this sport pack! I’m from Europe

tbf you don't require the experience or skill to obtain the real deal. Just to not wrap it around a tree.
Hyundai and Kia have come a long, long way since this kinda stuff at least.
UnLuckyKenTucky@reddit
Hasn't Hyundai even rebranded? Or is Genesis a separate entity?
Stevenwave@reddit
Genesis is to Hyundai as Lexus is to Toyota.
UnLuckyKenTucky@reddit
Wow. That's exactly what we need. A new company that people my age will only associate with the original Hyundai Genesis....

Not sure how much they really sell. When they first hit the market here in Aus, the big question was, "will people really spend 70, 80k on a Hyundai?" Really haven't seen many on the road.
Dmfd060606@reddit
They sell well here in the US
Stevenwave@reddit
Fair enough. It could be our luxury car tax here in Aus screwing them out of sales. Anything beyond about 75k gets a solid mark up just because.

They really have come a long way in that they did create something legitimately sporty with the Stinger a decade on from this.
Same with Hyundai with their famous hot hatches the i20N and i30N.

It's been really cool to see. People forget/aren't aware that Japanese makes were seen in earlier decades like these have been. Eventually they prove themselves and provide a genuine option.
Have seen people speaking of some Chinese stuff in a similar way recently but gotta wait and see how things play out there.

I actually never seen one out and about. I've only seen the commercial

I remember being in a Kia for a road trip back around 2000 or 2001, it was and remains the cheapest piece of shit I'd ever ridden in. Went to turn up the radio, volume knob fell off. Went to lower one of the visors to block out the sun, visor fell off. Hit a small pothole and the car would pull hard to one side - pulled over to check it out, couldn't see any damage. Continued pulling hard to that side until I hit a bump later that day, when it started pulling hard to the other side. Total shit.
I drove a Hyundai Accent briefly around 1996-97 and although it was a piece of shit it was kind of fun, like it had a go-kart feel to it.

I think it was about a decade later they turned a corner. Defs always seemed very cheap and cheerful prior. Used to see tonnes of Excels around though so they must've been capable of cars that just go and keep going even back then.

It's pretty nuts to think the quality of car they make now compared to the utterly dismal stuff they made when they first came to this market.
Stevenwave@reddit
Yeah wasn't that long ago here in Aus that they were seen as nothing more than low end, cheap. A lot would avoid and go for Japanese cars in these segments. Probably around 2010 it really started to shift. Nowadays you see just as many Korean cars.

Mom, I want a WRX STi. We have WRX STi at home.

So gold wheels and a wing on an econobox? In the 90s, we just called this a high school parking lot.

Lmfaoo. I recall once a guy, taking the muffler off of his crappy ass Clio MK2 to make it sound “sporty”
righthandofdog@reddit
We convinced my buddy, Robert, to hacksaw 1/2 way thru his muffler pipe in front of the baffles to sound better and get better power.
A friend eventually tack welded it back closed for him.

God, I miss those tiny trucks..
Did you know that with some firm persuasion, a little skill, a lot of time, and a few buddies , you can take the 3.8 V6 and the trans from the ugly Camaro , and forcefully shove that bitch under the hood of a Pup? It was exactly as sketchy as you're thinking it was, but damnit.... We embarrassed a lot of the wanna be FnF kids in their "tuner" cars that were all 100% stock under the hood, but had wings, lights, and all that dumb shit..
Nobody expected the Pup. Ever. We took a lot of time, too much really, to do the exhaust. It sounded as quiet as any factory 3.8 Chevy. But it was a tad nastier than the 4 banger everyone expected.
There was a dude here a few dozen years ago with an old style shoe box ranger, with a 5.0 and 5spd shoved in it. That was... Not safe.

Mustang GT power, pickup suspension sophistication - what could go wrong?
UnLuckyKenTucky@reddit
Absolutely..
Same dude also had a white fox body mounted on a modified Bronco 4wd frame.. a beautiful Mustang, rolling through town on 33 1050s, and a lift, he wanted people to see the front end...
I have always thought of this guy as the original redneck with a paycheck.. I wish I had been able to get a few pictures, but in Meniffee and Morgan county in Ky there's a creek called broke leg falls. This dude owned a chunk of the land there. He had so e type of old tank. A war tank, not a gas can, and he used it like a quad on the land around Broke Leg.
I wouldn't have believed it if someone had told me. A friend and I were in the creek, messing around under the waterfalls . She heard it first, and then I could hear an engine, limbs exploding and a squeaking noise. Turned out to be the dude just driving around. My friend wasn't comfortable coming out from behind a tree (she was wearing a little 2 piece, that I had bought her..... The year before. She didn't wear it til that day, and that day only). Or I would have gone up and talked to him. As it was he looked around said high, and spotted my friend, smiled and dropped inside the thing and turned it around on the spot and left.
righthandofdog@reddit
That is an exit
ashzeppelin98@reddit (OP)
The crazy and funniest difference is this all came from the factory rather than some kid trying to clap his dad's stock Rio

True. Long live rattle-canned gold wheels tho
