Warning - Please re-consider before you subscribe with Primo Water / Sparkletts

A few months ago, I signed up to use Primo Water / Sparkletts when I saw their kiosk set up at Costco on Dallas Pkwy. I had been using ReadyRefresh just a little prior to signing up with them and cancelled their services because they never delivered on time and kept re-scheduling their orders all the time.
I was skeptical about using a service, but since they were associated with Costco (and I have never had a bad experience as far as Costco services are concerned), I decided to go ahead and subscribe. I had a pretty decent experience with them the first couple of times. They delivered on time, as promised. ONLY the first couple of times.
I continued using them for 4 more months after. After the first couple of times, they began rescheduling orders too. At first, it wasn't too bad - they rescheduled by a couple of days, which was fine. For the past 2 months they have never even gotten CLOSE to getting an order to you on time. But that's not the part that makes their service abysmal. Here's what happens, each and every time:
- Order (scheduled for every 2 weeks by default) gets confirmed both on the app and through a phone call.
- I place all my empty cans outside for them to pick up and drop off the replenished ones.
- On the day of the delivery, the app still reflects the current date as the order date.
- Water does not get delivered on the order date at all.
- I check the app the next day, and there is no semblance of the order at all. No email or message or phone call or update on the app letting me know that the order has been rescheduled/cancelled.
- I contact customer service to find out, and they immediately mention that they are unable to see the order. I tell them that I have e-mail and SMS confirmation, along with screenshots. They THEN dig and find out that the branch which was supposed to deliver the order cancelled/rescheduled the order.
- They try to contact the branch, and claim there's no response from them (whether that's true is something I'm unsure of).
- I follow up with them over the course of the next few days, and they promise to deliver each day and fail miserably.
- Eventually they turn up 1.5 weeks later with water.
- Subsequent auto-scheduled delivery comes up about 4 days later, and the same cycle begins.
- Services (when rescheduled for a weekend - automatically) will leave you high-and-dry with no way to even contact customer service since they're only reachable Mon-Fri.
I've not incurred any monetary loss because of these delays, but having to entrust a water delivery service that does not deliver is frustrating, and I keep having to go back to H-E-B or Whole Foods to get a refill anyway.
If anyone has better recommendations for a reliable water service (already tried ReadyRefresh and ended up with similar service), please do let me know. I'd be happy to give them a try. I live in the Plano area, quite close to H-E-B.
TLDR: Be prepared for abysmal service if you decide to engage with Primo / Sparkletts Water Delivery service, even if they are associated with Costco; Orders will be rescheduled/cancelled without any intimation. Customer service CANNOT help you as the service is handled by local branches who are not held liable at all.

no issues with Primo whatsoever!

Lucky you.

I’ve had them a decade or so and moved a few times, and what I’ve found is you can get cursed with a lazy driver. The 1st place I lived was very easy access, never a late delivery. The 2nd however had a long driveway the truck couldn’t make it up so they had to carry them up: late every week. So I complained every delivery week about the wimp they assigned me until I got a new driver with some gumption, an awesome young brother that would carry all 3 in one trip. I’d give them the old thirsty wife a kids story.
Same thing at my 3rd place. Apartment with a gate and elevator down a driveway. Complained until I got a good driver, this time an old white guy.
Overall they have a good service, but it’s only as good as your driver. Their dispensers tho are glitchy.

I thought it was a driver issue too. But despite multiple requests, they were only able to give me an apologetic “we can’t reassign drivers”. They mentioned to me that this is controlled by the facility making the delivery and that they have no say in the matter.

I’m in Grand Prairie. Signed up with them through Costco in January and haven’t received an order on time and my last 2 deliveries have not showed up at all. They hung up on me when I was talking on the phone with them as soon as the clock hit 9pm for them. They really are the worst water delivery I have dealt with

I’ve left feedback with Costco about this as well after terminating my subscription. But they don’t seem to have looked into it. I continue to see them offering their services at the warehouses.

Wow I’m sorry I’ve have nothing but great experience with them .

As with a lot of nation wide franchises it all depends on the local business owner. I have had their service for several years and the driver is always on time and puts the bottles where I ask. I have a bad back and he is more than helpful putting them where I need. I absolutely love the service! Maybe searching for local reviews in Google first, for your service provider might help if you are considering signing up for service.

I’m glad you do. This may be an experience that only a few customers face.

I just bought their machine and refill my jugs at CVS or Walgreens Primo machine. Cheaper and I don't depend on their schedule! (I just keep 'skipping' any delivery)
Txag1989@reddit
I received a delivery from them of 6 of those 5 gallon jugs. I don’t and never will have an account with them. I called them numerous times and they never picked them up. I was about to pour them out and put them in recycling, but I saw the truck and ran out to flag down the driver. They had sat there on my front porch for about 6 weeks.

Lmao. And they don’t deliver to the ones who actually have their subscription and are waiting for the waters. 😂😂😂

Dave Liber is a reporter at the Dallas morning news that writes the consumer watch dog column. This seems right up his alley. Might be worth contacting him at watchdog@dallasnews.com

Oh, yes. I’ll try reaching out!

Just want to say thanks for the warning! I started using their water last week and was considering their service. I too live in an apartment and familiar with the lack of convenient water solutions

Happy if the warning helps!

My husband refills 2 5-gallon jugs every week at Whole Foods using the high ph option. It’s cheaper and more consistent than the delivery service. I really only like to drink high ph so this is best option for us.
We also live in an apartment - 4th floor
Echo-Victor@reddit (OP)
That seems like a workout by itself. :D
That’s what I’m considering as a stop-gap though. Not sure about high pH water, but I have a few empty cans which I’m thinking I’ll use to get refills from H-E-B.

We lived in an apartment and had a Berkey. Just filled a pitcher from the tap straight into it and waited. We had 3 filters in it so it wasn't too long a wait and as long as we filled it every so often when we took from it it stayed full. Just don't over fill it.
neatgeek83@reddit
Ya know my fridge has a filter on it…
Echo-Victor@reddit (OP)
That would be ideal. However, in a rented apartment, so I don’t have the option to change the fridge. :(
1millerce1@reddit
I used another fridge hose, some fittings and a valve to put this inline to the fridge: https://www.ispringfilter.com/ac/ultra-filtration-under-sink-water-filter-system/ispring—4-stage-ultrafiltration-water-filtration-system
Works VERY well and only have to replace the filters when the water tastes or smells off.

Fair!

I went through the same thing with them. Unfortunately they are the only local company that delivers Mountain Valley Spring. This particular brand and a handful of others have the lowest levels of impurities tested and come in glass.
It's laughable that people think running faucet water through activated carbon is effective water filtering. This is absolutely not the case. Gravity filters and other reverse osmosis systems are also not even close. I use a fancy home water distiller too, but I'm not sure even that is as good as certain spring waters.
You can buy boxes of MVS at Sprouts. It's kind of expensive and you end up with a lot of glass bottles but it's worth it
Echo-Victor@reddit (OP)
While I understand that filtered water is not as pure as spring water, do you personally see a noticeable difference between the two? Like, anything that you feel is different after switching to spring water?
OkQuietGuys@reddit
What you notice or do not notice is irrelevant. Many toxins are tasteless. What matters is the measured impurities in the water.
Echo-Victor@reddit (OP)
Oh, I don’t disagree. Just wondering if you’ve felt a difference at all.
k_stan_@reddit
Get a clearly filtered water pitcher system. Filters out just about as much as built in systems... fluoride, chlorine etc. Brita is trash.
Echo-Victor@reddit (OP)
Is there a brand that you’d recommend? Or is ‘clearly’ the brand?
Agreeable_Gap_1641@reddit
I’ve had the same issue here in Plano! They have a driver shortage. I’ve switched to once a month delivery and praying they show up.
Echo-Victor@reddit (OP)
I wanted to do that. But I then thought I’d be in dire straits if they still went ahead and pulled the same stunt. Nothing at all had changed in about 4 months now. I’ve cancelled their service effective today.
Loud_Internet572@reddit
Just get a water filter for your house or faucets and be done with it.
Echo-Victor@reddit (OP)
I live in a rented apartment. I’m a little wary of setting up a water filter. And the faucets these guys have don’t support a filter (It’s the flexible kind which you pull out).
I’m very open to recommendations on how I can circumvent these. (Not very handy, but open to learning.)
Loud_Internet572@reddit
You could just get a water pitcher with the filter inside then. They make different sizes - there are pitchers, cube style ones with little faucets to get water, etc. Check out Brita or something similar.
Echo-Victor@reddit (OP)
We were using a Brita and found it cumbersome to getting the cans. We also read somewhere that their filters are not nearly as effective as they claim. (Not sure how verified this is.)
As you suggested earlier, I am toying with the idea of an under-sink filter. Even more so now, but I’m trying to figure out how I can install it myself.
Mynplus1throwaway@reddit
I did an under sink and it's not too hard. I would just look for some videos. No harder than a bidet attachment. It was so worth it
Echo-Victor@reddit (OP)
I think I’ll attempt it. I just I don’t have to sheepishly call maintenance to come and fix a blunder. Fingers crossed
