What is the process for selling on a chairlift?

I'm house clearing as an executor for a lady who recently died. There's a chairlift about 2-3 years old which seems in great condition. I guess I should try selling it to the supplier, but in any case, what kind of return should I expect? I think I'll be lucky to get close to half the original amount paid. Does anyone have relevant experience?

I would absolutely love an alpine style chairlift or gondola in the garden, and have been loosely looking for a cheap, conveniently located one for a few years now.
I got excited when I read your post, but then sadly realised that the post is about a stair lift, which would make for a much more mundane garden feature.

Oops. Dreaming of the Alps.

I’d love a Gondola and then recreate the Jaws scene every night with my teeth wrapped in aluminium foil

I had to sell one once... the process had its ups and downs, but got rid of it eventually

I keep thinking of Brian Potter.

Stick it on gumtree as buyer removes. You’ll get someone needing it for their elderly mum

Is the house to be sold? If so leave it in place. You never know it could be a good selling point, someone may want a house with a stairlift.

My dad had one in his house. To get the house ready for sale after he died I had the supplier remove it to ensure it was done properly.
Can't remember the exact reimbursement involved but it was way less than half the purchase price. I would have been happy with close to half the original price but I suspect you will be lucky to get near that.

Look at it this way:
Selling stair lifts is a high cost sales proposition. Comparatively needy customers that take a lot of time.
Therefore you need high margins on the product.
Installation is expensive, hopefully you are using trusted/patient/nice/DBS checked fitters. - they won't come cheap
Therefore I would be surprised if the cost to the business of buying (brand new) the components of the stair lift is more than about 25% of the total supply and fit price paid by the end customer.
How much would you pay for second hand kit that you had to supply a warranty for, and your customer won't pay full price for as it's second hand?
If someone offers you any money for it that would be a bonus, but realistically it's not an asset, it's a liability.

!thanks. I have to say my expectations are low but there are purchasers/sellers of “road-proven” stairlifts.

You are quite likely to have to pay for the removal rather than be paid. There isn't really a secondary market for them and the cost of them is in installation and maintenance. Old ones just get stripped out and the parts used for servicing and spares.

I also have one. I was quoted (I think) £600-800 to have the hole it would leave repaired, so that's all I asked for it.
It works well, has two remote control units. Posted on ebay, posted on fb and had no takers. So it's sitting here until I probably pay someone to remove it for scrap. Pity - it cost thousands.

When I had to deal with the same thing, we had to pay them to take it away, they didn't pay us.
It was an unusual shape of staircase though; you might get something if it's a very simple straight stairlift.
