Is it a terrible thing to sell a car with an undisclosed issue?

Feeling pretty lousy, and want reddit's perspective. I've sold my car yesterday to a garage, it has an intermittent fault that I didn't mention, but wasn't asked about. The garage didn't test drive the car or ask many questions, it was a cheap run around and I took the first offer. Feeling like a bit of a shit, I sold the car as I've spent a large amount of money on it already and while the cause if the fault isn't known, it could be another big bill. It might not be, but I can't afford to run a car atm, let alone repair one I'm not using. Part of me thinks its a little bit on the garage to check what they are buying, that they must know enough to take the risk. But I recognise what i did, wasnt exactly honest and feel shitty still. Is it buyer beware, or should we offer issues up without being asked?
