Build new PC now with rtx 4080 super or wait for rtx 50 series

So i really want to build a new PC right now since my current one is 8 years old with zero upgrades.
I put together my component list and am pretty happy with what im building, but then i saw some videos and talk about the rtx 50 series and that its coming out pretty soon.
So now im getting abit of fomo and thinking maybe i should wait.
So what are your thoughts? Will the 4080 super do me well in the long run? Also i live in sweden so not sure how that would affect prices of the new GPUs.

I'm waiting for 50 series (currently on a 3070).

4080 super is a great choice, but if you can wait, then I would.
I built my PC a few weeks ago and initially also went for a 4080 super, but then I decided to return it and get a placeholder gpu for the time being instead.
Can't go wrong with either option, in my opinion.

whats your build? im thinking of doing the same and just swap the placeholder gpu when the 5080 comes out

I settled on a 4070 super in the end. There are some decent deals on them here in the UK right now, and I think that will hold value the best. Whatever you choose, I would definitely recommend buying Nvidia as that will be easier to sell for a minimal loss.

i guess with a mobo b650, ram 32gb ddr5 6000 cl30, ryzen 7 7800x3d would be great to just swap the gpu for the 5080 and get everything out of it?

Yeah, that's exactly what I have in mine. I thought about waiting for the 9800x3d, but I don't think that will be a big upgrade and probably won't be worth the price.

4080s = one of the best cards available today?
Games don't evolve this fast -- it's not likely Red Dead Redemption 3 or Cyberpunk 2 or The Witcher 4 will require a 48GB Ram card to run.
Don't just think card's specs, think necessities: what would you need a 5000 card for that you can't do with a 4080?
Even if you want the highest FPS with the highest image quality, the 5000 doesn't even exist yet. We have no idea how it's going to perform.

Are you happy with the current performance of your PC? If yes wait if no buy now

I just want to point out that you havent upgraded in 8 years and how normal that is. So many redditors are obsessed with "upgrade paths" without recognising that normal people don't upgrade their PCs, they wait until they are too slow then buy a whole new one.
The 4080 is an extremely good card and will serve you well for a long time. The 50 series will be better but also more expensive. If you really dont mind waiting and paying more, then it would be nice to be at the cutting edge for a couple years with the 50 series. Other than that, it really doesnt matter that much

Buy a 4090

When the new features get announced the fomo will kick in even harder.

Enjoy computer now, or hold off for better. But in the world of tech there's always going to be something new.
AdHead1891@reddit
I’m waiting for 50 as well. Playing with geforce now until..
sawb11152@reddit
nah bro 50 series is too soon, may as well wait for 60 series. something something future-proof.
Slokminator@reddit
wait for 50 than then ask again if take 50 or wait for 60.
justtio@reddit
wouldn't have it any other way on this sub😂
Maximum_Stop6720@reddit
Wait for 50 series
Itz21isthe1@reddit
4080 super should serve you very well in the long run, if you really need a new PC right now it would be a great upgrade and I’d say go for it. If you’re not in a rush then you can wait it out to see the rtx 50 series

There's always something new around the corner
If you want to play games now, get the PC now
Get a 4070TiS instead of the 4080S. It's less likely to be immediately replaced with a 50 series equivalent
