Non CDL jobs with CDL experience?

This is pretty sad but due to medical reasons I may not be able to maintain my DOT med card. Currently seeking suggestions for relevant jobs I can still do, even if it doesn’t pay as much. I was looking at being a shuttle driver for the airport or maybe if I can find a company that will take me as a yard spotter… any ideas? Thanks a lot guys

My daughter is in HR at Amazon. She said that they have yard jobs that they use for training people to become their commercial drivers. That would be an awesome job for someone with CDL experience, but not actually able to go over the road due to medical issues. You could pitch it as helping the newbie drivers by telling them what to expect as you’ve already been there and done that.

You need to have a valid medical card and a valid CDL within 2 years. Or they’ll kick you back inside the warehouse.
I was on Tom Team (the yard jockeys).

My daughter isn’t part of Tom Team. She mentioned they did training for people to get a CDL. I made the assumption the trainers were in house.

I’m sorry to hear about your medical problem, That’s honestly heartbreaking.
My experience with getting hired on for driving positions that don’t require a CDL has been absolutely stellar. The two that I interviewed for looked at me like I was the cream of the crop and hired me.
I think you’ll find your options are pretty darn wide. I saw a cool job the other day that was a tour operator for a marketing company that you drive around an RV. And you’d bet your ass they would value your CDL experience.

Getting paid to drive an RV around sounds pretty nice. Where was this?
OP, sorry to hear about your medical troubles. I hope you can get them resolved or qualify for an exemption so you can keep your CDL.

There’s only a few companies in the country that do it but two of the companies is Spevco in Pfafftown, NC and Aardvark Studios in Conshohocken, PA

Thanks, I looked them up. I wonder what the pay is like. With per diem it might be pretty good.
WitchCackleHehe@reddit
Per diem hovers around $50 per day and pay is usually salary for these places. If I had to guess it’s $50k-65k per year w/o per diem

Depending on the weight of the RV, that job would possibly require a Med Cert.

That’s encouraging I really appreciate it. If you don’t mind me asking what jobs did you apply for ??
WitchCackleHehe@reddit
My pleasure! And the two jobs were a parcel delivery driver like UPS and a box truck driver.
People will say “bOx tRuCk TuRns dIfFeReNt” oh stfu and just swing wide like we’re all supposed to lol

lol yeah pretty much the same concept driving anything bigger than a Honda civic. That’s cool. I’m guessing you still had to do DOT medical for those jobs tho ? It’s fmcsa regulated I assume?
WitchCackleHehe@reddit
I didn’t have to do any DOT medical stuff for those jobs at all. As long as you’re driving record isn’t trash and you have a great attitude, you’ll be surprised at how many companies are willing to give you a shot.

Thanks so much for everything wish me luck hehe

Have you tried saying racist stuff on the internet. That shit is profitable now. You could score one of those Russian sponsorships if you end up going pro.
fiasco666@reddit
I hated otr and now drive a tow truck. Pretty cool job and I get to sleep in my bed
badass_flavored@reddit (OP)
I was looking into that. Do you like it?
Imaginativested@reddit
Light duty non cdl jobs start higher than some class a jobs in my area. Most big companies want 16 hour days though with 8 on then 8 on call with 8 hours off. Stay safe ive know 2 people that died doing it.
