..and the "real" record player that actually plucked the instrument vs the "modern" one that is all electronic and fake.

Yeah the modern one just shows how depressing the modern world is. The original was a clever trick involving a clockwork record player, no electronics needed! They made the whole thing cheap enough that you could use it in a kid's toy, even. Impressive engineering work.

The modern one is an off-the-shelf Play Audio Files blob IC. It cost them 5 cents and it's the same one that's in every other kid's toy. There's not even any creativity in the design of the case, because they're imitating the old one. It's just sad how little effort, comparatively, went into the new one.

I (the person who teared it down) tend to do less of modern toys for my teardown threads because of this. What's inside this toy drumkit?

oh, it's some LEDs, a speaker, and the same blob IC that's in all of them. That's no fun.

Where’s the wagon ? My dad hated that it clicked when you pulled it along so he removed the clicking device.
