If you don’t have direct experience as a business analyst, what skills can you learn that make you stand out in the crowd? What are some valuable skills companies are looking for? How can a fresh graduate (with prior developing experience) get in as a technical business analyst?

Networking, ie talking to people. Network with people and with businesses, you will be on their radar and when an opportunity pops up you will be informed. It's about who you know, or more importantly they know of you prior that will give you the edge, I'm not talking about buddy buddy type of shenanigans, I'm talking about genuine getting to know people, this will open more doors.
If you can't do that, when get to the interview be open, honest and genuine, this leads to them considering taking a risk on you, no one wants to hire a jerk.

Over skilled, over qualified and under paid. Everything else is a compromise.

BAs need experience doing help desk, sysadmin or experience in another part of a company with the software they'll work with. They're almost project managers for one or a few softwares.

Businesses want a 7/hy jack of all trades, master of all trades.
