Worth $100 any way you look at it. LT1 isn’t great but if you wanted the driveline could be used for a swap. Or just fix it and use it as a drift beater and/or burnout car if that’s your thing. Cheap way to have some fun.

Sell any parts you might not want like maybe interior bits or wheels or whatever to recuperate for any costs and it’ll be free.

I've owned 7 LT1 cars, the only optispark problem I ever had was needing to replace a cap and rotor.

people also seem to forget that 94 - 96 B body cars were optispark equipped. There were hundreds of thousands of taxis and police cruisers with optisparks in the 90s.

Taxis are literally tortured when in service, police cars as well. But still to this day the LT1 caprice is one of the most favored police cars ever.

There were not breaking down out of nowhere left and right.

B-body taxis were not the L99/LT1, those were the pre-opti SBC. Most cities had phased out of using B-bodies as cabs by the mid 90's.

It was always hit or miss with the Optis. My grandpa had a '96 LT1 Roadmaster that had two optis die in the first 60k miles, but then you always hear about some bumfuck on a forum or reddit that says he has 6 million miles on his original opti.

I daily drove a decommissioned 9C1. It had around 70k miles on it when I bought it and had over 200k when I wrecked it, never had a problem with the opti.

They're not bad if you don't get them wet. I just avoid driving my trans am in the rain because if you drive in rain long enough there will be a bit of water splashing up on the opti causing the car to either run like shit or even stall. It's back to normal once everything dries up though.

LOL i don't know i was all gun hoe on a mustang because it ticked off all the boxes. vert, stick and GT. Then it needed a new roof so that's a 500-900 fix there, then the motor would need to be rebuilt/replaced that's an easy 2000. Then of course if your going to pull the motor you may as well do the clutch because well it's a good idea, so another 1000 bucks. By the time i tallied the score, i might as well jut go buy one that runs. So for me unless you got your left nut in a bunch over that car, i wouldn't do it. Like my camaro i have tons of cash, blood sweat and tears into it. Doesn't matter thou because that's the one.

It's like this yea 100 sure but then you got to get it there, then it sits, then you pick at it, then you get into replacing stuff... then either you hit the WTF is this thing doing here and then you got to sell it.

Someone said these are worth over 10k in a previous thread, if that's true, you should absolutely pick it up for a $100. Granted, it doesn't look like it's in perfect condition, but with some TLC, you could net a decent profit if you're looking to flip it.

To be fair, the one in that thread is worth 10k, this one sure as hell ain’t, but this one is worth more than $100 for sure. With no title though, it does sort of limit your options depending on the state. But again, you could still have a sweet drag car, drift car, etc. for basically nothing, OR you could just part it out and make money on it. Engine/harness/trans/pcm should fetch $1k at least.

Call your local PD and have the cops run the vin number. They will tell you if it's stolen or not. If not you can get a notarized bill of sale and file for a missing title. After that do a block draw test and just replace that segment of the harness. Now you have a fun little project for $500-$750

My friend sold me one of these for $300 like 15 years ago. My other friend crashed his 00 z28 so I bought the wreck off him and made an 11 second car for like 3 grand. Kind of interesting how much faster the car was with some minor tweaks, several hundred pounds of weight lost and a different torque converter.
